They're all on sale. Should I get the trilogy, or is it true that they're too repetitive to play as a trilogy?

Is the first game worth playing alone?

There are gameplay changes between the games.
In terms of combat, roaming and gadgets.
I definitely would not say they are too repetititve to play as a trilogy.
And if you can get them for cheap you can always go back later.
Bigger question is whether you will enjoy the experience enough. Still, pretty good games.

Anything that I could particularly dislike about them? It's Batman so I'm hoping for thicc atmosphere, good characters, maybe some nice stealth and combat?

It's a power fantasy for basedboys desu.
Story is just cookie cutter comic book shit, gameplay is boring repetitive garbage with
>MUH METROIDVANIA
shoved in.

They are mosty puzzles games in the sense that every encounter is mostly about solving it.
If its a stealth section, in which order and how to take down the enemies.
In combat its designed to as much as possible be done in one smooth combo.
Its not terribly hard or complex, mostly about good timing and a bit of creativity.
If you go in hoping for DMC/Ninja Gaiden combat you will be disappointed.
If you expect something closer to the recent Spidernan game, albeit with slower combat and somewhat less mobility this will be much more your speed.

Literally one of the best trilogies in vidya. Anyone who says otherwise is a pleb with garbage taste.

Buy them. Seriously, they're very good.

Elaborate without spoiling pls

They're really good games, and that's coming form someone who doesn't like capeshit. They're just really well-made and fun to play.
Although, I hope the collection doesn't include the "remastered" versions, because those look like shit, worse than the originals.

The voice acting is excellent, the game is full of details and eater eggs relative to the comics, there is a fair bit of variety in what you can do, the gliding is pretty well done.
Story can be hit or miss.

Characterisation is great for pretty much everyone, even the less mainstream villains like Professor Pyg or Mad Hatter get a lot of fleshing out.

The Batman/Joker dynamic in these three is probably the best outside of The Killing Joke, the graphics (particularly in Knight) are top-notch, fighting is fun and predator sections give you plenty of opportunity for invention.

Atmosphere is incredible in all three, particularly Asylum and Knight. DLC isn't as good as the main game, mostly suits and Batmobile skins in Knight but the Season of Infamy does add a decent chunk of content that plays out concurrent to the main plot.

too samey for being played back to back.

Thanks boys, I'll pick em up.

I just played them all back to back.
I would recommend not getting into it.

Hope you enjoy them, user.

As in not playing them at all? or not playing them back to back? Care to elaborate?

It's about as repetitive as playing through multiple CoD campaigns in a row. If you enjoy the gameplay, I'd say this wouldn't be an issue. It only gets stale if you decide to go the 100% route. It's a tedious process for open world games in general and doing all of them one after another will no doubt be tiresome. Good luck with City on that matter.

And fuck the Riddler.

If you like Batman, I'd recommend playing all three games. Each has something good to offer, and you'll see a real sense of progression. And, as much as l like Arkham Knight, l think you can only appreciate it at its full value if you really liked Asylum and City

Yes, Asylum alone is worth it. It helps that the rest of the series is good too and that City and Origins are open world but have actual indoor levels where most of the plot takes place. Haven’t played Knight yet.
