gen 4

it gained its soul in gen 3 and lost it again in gen 6.

This

HGSS invalidates your claim

When you stopped enjoying it

>When did Pokemon lose its soul?
Gen 3

I remember it was embarrassing the play pokemon by gen 3. gen 4 was a suicide note and anyone caught with Pokemon was called a fag.

It never did. You got older.

Wrong

youtube.com/watch?v=OOmznKTv74M

6

S/M was pretty trash but the E4 theme is FIRE

youtube.com/watch?v=mAk0dNzrPcE

Gen 4 lost its soul only get it back with HGSS but then lost it again

naw gen6+7 really are garbage scraping the bottom of the barrel trash

HGSS was the last time Pokemon had soul

BW2 is a good game, but completely soulless, the other games are not even worth mentioning

objectively this

it's a game for kids you dipshits, everyone's favorite gen is just the one they played as a kid

gen3, thats when they overworld sprites started looking like plastic shit

Gen 6 when Gamefreak decided that cheap Gen 1 pandering was more important than making new regions good.

i started with KANTOOOOO as a kid and gen 5 is my favorite. it's not that hard to be objective instead of clinging to nostalgia.

6
>First game without an extra trio (Birds, dogs, Regis etc)
>Game has least amount of new Pokemon
>Game that started the Game freak is lazy
>First game with noticeable framerate problems
>Flying Pokemon are stationary in air
>First game that was clearly rushed with NPC's referencing content and locations that didn't make it into the final game

>muh soul meme

>When did Pokemon lose its soul?
Gen 4.

Gen 3 was the peak of Pokemon. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and Fire Red/Leaf Green are the best games they've ever made.

Attached: 1434759138073.jpg (2660x1780, 1.18M)

I've been playing the series since the start and my favorite is 5

we know pokemon is for kids, but at least gen 1 and 2 doesnt treat you like you're retarded

Never had any.

You can see it starting in Gen.5, and it peaked in Gen.6 with X/Y. Its a shame really. I hope Sword/Shield bring it back.

When it went 3D on handhelds.

let's go to the north of kalos
WHAT YOU MEAN ITS NOT IN THE GAME

When they stopped using 2d sprites

gen 6

It never had any to begin with. Pokemon is the definition of lifeless and generic, made to appeal to huge audiences with as little effort as possible.

>That huge gated powerplant
>Train Station that several NPCs say will take you to southern kalos
>Characters referencing where Volcanion is
>Mewtwo in some random one room cave

Please show me where I said that.

Wrong, my favorite is HGSS and I played it as an adult.

unironically when they released red and blue to america
they were too afraid to release them as red and green because of cultural differences, and it was all downhill from there.
it should have stayed as a japan only series

>le merely pretending xD

Cunny>>>>soul

this makes me feel strong nostalgia for some reason

The only gens with soul are 1, 2, and 5.

Based

Shit, I felt that way about gen 3. I looked up how to catch feebas, and I was surprised to see that there was still a thriving community, because people never talked about it irl.

The move to 3DS made the games far to linear and easy. The anime peaked but the games dropped in quality heavily.

It unironically did, infinite TMs should be a postgame thing only. Doing the League without ethers and getting to the champion with moves that are nearly out of pp and having to decide whether or not to use one of the TM's on your mons was strategy. Now you can just teach unteach then reteach moves to gain back pp.

It's lame.

>far to
heh should we tell him, gen 6 bros?

only gens with true soul are 2, 3, and 5
everything else sucks cock

>BW2 is a good game, but completely soulless
nah bud

>Soul
>Soulless
Fuck off with this meme

i know exactly when pokemon become a lifeless shell, when the pokemon events stop being an adventure to get the pokemon and were only a dude in the pokemon center giving you free shit

3D was a mistake...

When you stopped playing it

5

well volcanion isn't there because no one programed that part
now get this code and redeem it at the pokemon center

I don't quite know how to phrase this, but what's the point of HMs being infinite use when TMS are infinite too now? Like, why even have a different category at this point? And why are HM moves unforgettable without a move deleter? I understand you need them for progression and you don't want to get trapped without an HM, but again, they're infinite use anyway.

I'm going to say that Diamond/Pearl were the death knell.

Man, I never got a DS and I had a few friends who were playing it in middle school.
I really wanted to play but couldn't afford one.
Pokemon as a game was not cool at that time among my peers, and I would have been seen as childish for playing it at that time, but looking back I don't give a fuck.
Now I own the game and can play it on my 3DS but the spark is dead because I don't have anyone to talk about it and to battle in it with.
I'm nostalgic for a game I never played.

But then lost it again in Sun and Moon.

many peopl played on emulators fagget

I see everyone shitting on gen 4 all the time but I thought it was good.
2 1 and 4 are the best to me, with 5 being good.
I dropped the series again after gen 6 though.

>Playing a game that uses a touch screen on an emulator
That kind of kills the experience.

>And why are HM moves unforgettable without a move deleter?
They need this alongside the inability to release Pokemon with an HM to prevent softlocks
Otherwise you could potentially get somewhere with Surf, and then not only delete the move but also release the Pokemon from your party who can learn it. Then you're softlocked if there are no wild Pokemon compatible with Surf. A few games have places where this would be doable.
Of course, they could just, for instance, put a patch of grass with something that learns Surf on any such location, but that would require thinking on GF's part.

gen six
>difficulty significantly lowered
>hard mode from five taken out for no reason
>genwun pandering started
>lower amount of new pokemon
>3D models lacking animation
>so much forced, boring story

Attached: inline-01.jpg (578x327, 48K)

Why do so many people have this silly opinion
Platinum and HGSS were great, Diamond and Pearl didn't by any means kill the franchise.

Playing on emulators being less than college aged is gay.

Switch from sprites to 3D models

I think gen 6 was peak soullessness.

Attached: 1558318882752.png (1478x1376, 685K)

HGSS sucks donkey dick

>2Dfag

Gen 6 is by far the moment when pokemon became lazy and soulless
b-but the competitive is great, right guys?

>tiny sample size
>all of those gen 1 votes
I don't trust any poll on /vp/
You fags rig everything.

Explain the kanto spic story.

Gen 5 and 6 are definitely the worst.

5 was a mixed bag, but 6 had no soul and 7 somehow managed to have even less than 6

I liked gen 4 and weather wars more than the gen 6/7 shit

Barneyfag of Pokemon who hates gen 5.

this, double nubs confirms

Gen 5 because that's when they stopped putting in any effort. Doesn't gen 5 have a pokemon that is a literal pile of trash?

I liked gen 5 a lot better after replaying it several years later. The only complaint I can remember is the pokemon designs. Really hit or miss there. Like, REALLY hit or miss. Some of the best designs in the series, but also some of the worst.

Yeah I'm playing through Y again, and I didn't like Y very much compared to the other titles. But since I played USUM, Y feels pretty good in comparison.

I got my starter and Pokédex in 1 minute of stating.
USUM have you wait like half an hour minutes just to do that.

>gen 6
ftfy

The moment you stopped being an underage child

Gen 6, mostly because:
>XY came out rough around the edges
>No third game to fix the major flaws of XY, such as low difficulty and unfinished areas
>ORAS wasn't based on the third game like HGSS was

Gen 2

Remember when they removed that town in gen 6?

Gen 4 and 5 were max soul with its combo of sprites and low poly graphics.

Anyone who says gen 2 is bad is completely full of shit or just straight up retarded.

Gen 1/2/3 still have the magic I experienced as a kid tho? Everything else is just meh.

Attached: 1531485394802.png (881x907, 534K)

>>ORAS wasn't based on the third game like HGSS was
i'm so fucking livid about that shit...

But I didn't play B2W2 till I was 24, and that game is my second favorite of the defies.

normalfags always defend this shit despite hgss having everything from crystal

>no battle frontier
>in the place where battle frontier is supposed to be there is a little battle tower saying that battle frontier is gonna be made
>we're not in that timeline

Gen 5 was the start of the fall which kicked into high gear with gen 6. People defend gen 5 just for being good games, but the truth is that a lot of the "streamlined" changes and uninspired locales took away from the soul.

Attached: 1557638858828.gif (404x347, 1003K)

Gen 6.
The first 5 gens were great and were packed with soul. Too bad there are faggots out there that must insist on the rest are shit when only the 3DS games were shit.

Y'know what would be nice? If they just rebranded the game corners as arcades with an exchange counters for prizes.

Have the player be able to play minigames that pay out a minimum amount of tickets, so even if you suck at it. or the odds are against you, you still gain something, so it's not explicitly gambling, nor promoting gambling. Of course, the better you perform, or if you manage to successfully beat a minigame, the more you earn, but you'd never actually lose what you invest if you do poorly.

Quite literally after HGSS

That would require a game designer that was legitimately inspired to make a Pokemon game, however.

When Satoshi Tajiri had the idea of it

When they went full 3D. It's clear that they weren't used to it after the migration of 2D pixels to fully fledged 3D in X&Y.

Unironically after gen 1 when it stopped being a passionate project and it turned into one of the biggest cashcows in the history of cashcows.

>Unironically
That just makes you easier to make fun of.
This isn't about Tajiri, this is about "Soul"

For me I was playing Black I think and I beat the whole game all the way up until the elite four. Right before I entered the facility to challenge them, I just thought to myself "This is actually pretty boring" and literally never played a pokemon game ever again in my life, I didn't even enter the building to finish the game. Mind you I'd beaten countless titles before this with hundreds of hours.

Everytime I play Y I get to the second gym, feel like I'm playing it completely wrong because of my level and just stop playing. Is this normal?

gens 2 and 3 were also passion projects

That's gen1

after emerald I guess

Sounds like royalty free youtube music

gen 2 is more a passion project than gen 1

- When Game Freak/Nintendo decided that all Pokemon players are braindead vegetables who need to have their hands held for 30 hours straight.

- When Game Freak/Nintendo decided that they didn't need to put any effort into the new 3D graphics of their multi-billion dollar franchise.

- When Game Freak/Nintendo decided that adding a bunch of shitty gimmicks was the thing that Pokemon needed.

Aka the 3DS gen of Pokemon games.

Yikes

this is what I think as well

Just bought ultra moon, what am I in for?

It can't lose what it never had.
The very CONCEPT of Pokemon is literally founded on merchandising, and it worked.

disappointment

Didn't have high expectations, I just wanted to see how bad nu pokemon was. And also the pokephile posting MAY have pushed me over the line

Just look at porn of gen 7 mons, they will give you greater satisfaction eitherway

Pretty cool wild Pokemon selection, you can get most pseudo-legendaries and other favorites at low levels.

when you grew up

it really does tho

“Soul” is just a synonym of nostalgia
So really, when Pokemon “lost its soul” is relative to whenever you first played pokemon.

RSE have no soul

I think Gen VI for certain. Gen V was the beginning of the end but had a great game to send it off at least.

Gen IV was when it was coming back into the mainstream again though. Being the first time the series got online play was a huge deal.

I started at the tailend of Gen I and BW2 is my favorite.

Attached: official tier list.png (2592x2800, 2.79M)

Reminder that all Gen V babs need to be killed

I must be getting old, I remember when Yea Forums used to say that Gen 3 was the point when Pokemon turned to shit.

Attached: laughingskelly.png (400x346, 112K)

jokes aside gen 3 and 4 have some week ass base games but the third one is fantastic

TMs should be single use before becoming Champion and only then become reusable

Attached: 1243164359346.jpg (1208x1854, 547K)

He didn't say they got it back with gen 6

>Why do so many people have this silly opinion
>Platinum and HGSS were great
It's a modern /vp/ meme.

TMs of single use but a shop in postgame where you can buy all a little price

Whichever game stopped using sprites.

"Soul" is such a stupid way to describe something. What you feel is nostalgia, nothing more.

based.

That would take away the fun of finding them, unless I guess somehow the shop only sells what you've already found

Regardless, it seems like pointless padding when the item bag is already suffering for a severe overload

Do you really not know the definition of soul?

>, I remember when Yea Forums used to say that Gen 3 was the point when Pokemon turned to shit.
You mean things that never happened?
Because everyone shat on 4 more than anything here. It was one of the main reasons why the Digimon thing took off.

Describe it to me then. No buzzwords please.

Not him but soul has no definition. It's just a way for people to say something is good without saying why.

pokemon SOUL silver

When Masuda started directing

>Black and
>Black 2 and
AND WHAT?!

WHITE, you dumb nigger, WHITE!

>>Flying Pokemon are stationary in air
As opposed to them stationary on the ground? What the fuck does this even mean.

>wanting less shitty legendaries as requested by many after gen 5's shit is bad

>>Game that started the Game freak is lazy
Yeah, gen 6, certainly not the games before.

You posted it

Not a huge poke bitch here but by Black and White its soul was already dead that's for sure.

Let’s see. There were 5 mainline Pokémon games released in gen 4, Diamond(soulless), Pearl(soulless), Platinum(soulless), Heartgold(soulless), and Soulsilver(SOUL), so gen 4 was actually only 4/5ths soulless

take LGPE and ORAS for example.

LGPE: Steals smartphone game formula of popular, critically acclaimed latest craze game which isn't even played by actual pokemon fans, just normies looking to kill time on their commute to college/work, re-makes gen1 for the what, 3rd, 4th time? all for the sake of generating the most money possible, cut all of the good content out of the games that was present in the original versions and give bullshit excuses like 'oh kids are too busy on smartphones these days they don't have time to figure out how to unlock ingame events or play battle frontier' to get by with minimal efforts. pokemon hasn't been a passion project for a long time and it shows

imgur.com/a/lNjOr

Attached: masuda.png (1366x1122, 1.55M)

That's not a definition of soul, that's a description of LGPE

>missing the entire fucking point
bravo, honestly

Attached: clap.png (852x654, 511K)

You made no point at all

>all for the sake of generating the most money possible,
As if GS needed to be remade? The game doesn't even include any new content unlike every single game released before AND after then, it CTRL+V its postgame from Platinum, to not mention not fixing 90% of the game's problems.

This. Diamond/Pearl was the moment it lost it's SOUL.

it wasn't GS. gen1 panders to the original pokemania craze which led to the highest sales pokemon has seen. it's an example of selling out - quantity over quality

BASED

you're bad at interpreting things then. I don't know what to tell ya. but yes soul is a buzzword

>you're bad at interpreting things then
You can't describe something solely by something it's NOT. Your post describes fucking cucumbers exactly as well as it describes soul.

Attached: piakchu.jpg (500x470, 48K)

USUM is full of SOUL and you can't do anything about it

Attached: ee8b1bfbceddb37fa2b13c2d612494f5[1].jpg (564x824, 112K)

have fun being mentally fuckin' retarded I guess. it's not that hard of a concept

If it's not that hard I'd expect you to say even a single goddamn thing about what soul actually is but as expected you can't

Gen V literally added more pokemon than any other gen and BW2 is the single best game in the series.

It also added my favourite bug.

Attached: 7edf39f3ca47cb2f9aba132b7f721170.jpg (894x840, 218K)

Anyone remember the shitty web browser pokemon game? It was multiplayer esque. It had you browse flat areas for bootleg pokemon to Catch. I think it shutdown fast

Attached: 1558387763447.jpg (1920x1080, 125K)

Which Pokemon would you fuck, user?
and which would you let fuck you?

soul is when the person developing a game actually gives a shit about it. I'm surprised you couldn't take that from my original post, but some people struggle with understanding things I suppose. past a certain point, GF realized they could sell the exact same fucking games and still make the same amount of money, because of pokemon's popularity. play Sun/Moon then play USUM and tell me it doesn't feel like you're playing the same game. I dare you. They make enough money off of basically anything they produce that they don't need to change the formula. by assumed definition, the newer games are soulless.

Too bad it doesn't look anything like that in the actual game.

Not him, but challenge accepted.

Soul is love. Love for the project, for the people, for the world it portrays, and the characters in it. Soul is the little things in your game that make it feel alive and vibrant. Soul is what a game is full of when devs make a game so that players can play it have a good time, not to make money. That's how I see it.

Gardevoir
Yes

What are some great fangames, Yea Forums?

Porn fangames or regular fangames?

>soul is when the person developing a game actually gives a shit about it.
By this definition all of the Pokemon games have soul
>Soul is what a game is full of when devs make a game so that players can play it have a good time, not to make money.
By this definition none of the Pokemon games have soul

porn

>Being this dumb
Ok, now I know youre doing this on purpose. Good bait

It's pretty ridiculous to assume nobody cared about the games they're making, and equally as dumb to think they weren't made to earn money. There's nothing to bait here.

The moment it went 3D

Regular. Porn games are also acceptable

are there actually any porn fangames

t h i s

>play Sun/Moon then play USUM and tell me it doesn't feel like you're playing the same game.
So no difference from playing GSC and HGSS. Pretty graphics don't make a game.

The GBA is just a soulless console in general. The washed out colors to compensate for the screen and shitty soundchip doomed it from the start. Born wihout a soul.

yeah, I have no idea why HG/SS is still the most expensive and loved pokemon game. I think people really loved the following pokemon thing

honestly prob this

>sword and shield already judged
image will likely age well but could at least be middle tier if we're lucky

It was ok.
All the extra berry shit was ok
And the designs were ok.

By the time that game came out it was not cool to like pokemon.
I was in 5th grade when pokemon red and blue came out and every kid had it.

Then people started talking about wwf wrestling and shit like that.

This
>Gen 1 it's just you against the world
>Gen 2 is the same but better
>Gen 3 is ehhh but still fine
>Gen 4 is hand holding friendly rival cutscenes out the ass bullshit
and I can only assume it got worse from here

>are there actually any porn fangames
Lolimon different from moemon

link

So much this
Worst one is X/Y with its "hee hee I want to study Pokémon dances! Let's all be friends! Weeeeeeeeee!

>Its pretty ridiculous to assume nobody cared about a game they were making
LGPE is a textbook example of this. They remade a game when nostalgia for it was at its highest, and they didnt even do that right. They shaved off so much from it compared to the originals its not even funny. It was made to cash in on the nostalgia fad and the lack of attention and care is glaringly obvious. This is a 'soulless' game
>Equally as dumb to think they werent made to earn money
Lets see ruby, sapphire, and emerald. It was obviously made to earn more money, and get idiots to buy the same game as alternate versions, but that's not the point. In addition to pokemon battling, you can go safari hunting (that expands after you finish the game), show off your pokemon in contests, cook pokeblocks to affect the pokemon you catch or feed to your pokemon to increase a contest stat, you can fight, and rematch npc, random npcs will call you from time to time, just to talk to you, you have bonus area challenges such as the diggers tunnel and sky pillar to catch high level pokemon, and battle frontier where you can take on a variety of different challenges to fight the bonus bosses, sharpen your battling skills and increase your win streak while using this to get prizes. See? None of these things were necessary to the main game and yet they're there to give you additional things to do in the game

blame gen 2

Attached: 1557806896153.png (640x864, 65K)

It takes a slight bit of googling, user.

definitely 5

If you enjoy johto

I really enjoyed the voltorb game more than the slots and roulette.

I personally didn't enjoy the low poly stuff. But they did create some beautifull scenery.

Hey, same age, nice.
Take me back, Yea Forums. These nostalgia threads always ruin my day

>another rehashed pokemon soul thread
