That's a pretty broad definition you're asking for but blockstrings really depend on who you're playing and who you're against but the nature of it is to pry someone open but not expend all your tools to leave yourself unsafe at the end of it. That's why reverse beat is there for you to go back to a lighter, far safer move to end your strings with to lessen the chance of being retaliated against.

Thanks. What really confuses me about it, is that aren't there like only two or three ways a blocking situation can go? Most overheads seem pretty reactable, although I've seen people complain about Wagner's. It seems more complex against a character like Seth but I'm not quite sure

Okay, I guess the blockstring concept is starting to make sense to me. At perfect levels of play you would never get hit by an overhead or whatever, but no one is perfect.

If it's tutorials, I wouldn't worry about it so much. If you got info up to the intermediate section then I think you're better off going ahead to practice mission mode instead of getting OS' down at the moment.

Yeah ACEN. I came from out of state so I didn't know any of the players but everyone was super friendly and fun to play against. I ended up tying for 7th which was way better than I was expecting.

I just read through schoolbus' anti wagner doc and while most of it was JUST GUESS SHIELD CORRECTLY ther was 1 useful tidbit in their which was that if you shield wagners charge shield which puts you in the air, you can take an air action before you land. linne can air kuuga, yuzu can air battou, characters with divekicks can risk that, etc.

The wait times are definitely a pain, but you can keep an eye on the players beating you to see how the behave without being under the pressure of having to defend against them.

my dude most nights here i got 0-10, but after a while ive learned that yes, it may not seem like it, but getting your shit kicked in is a way to learn, and im finally starting to take matches off people

No one cares about your square color, only about how you play. If you expect to win every match, then fighters aren't for you.
Also, during that downtime you could look up shit on your character, watch how the other people in the lobby play, or do something else.

the correct mentality for playing should be to assume the hit landed and react to the block appropriately. it's usually easier to mash from 2A to a safe on block move than to always be looking for your max damage conversion.

i find that drinking also helps mellow me out a bit so im not making rash gambles on every single hit

I do specifically practice my multihit/cancelable moves like 5c/5bb since they need to be picked up way differently depending on the opening

I think I just got frustrated and stopped for a while because I couldn't get one part of her BnB to connect consistently no matter how fast or slow I did it. It was always a sometimes thing and my mika was finally growing at the time.

Yeah but having a main helps with learning the game and I do want that. I still feel like I'm close to the starting line because I don't have anybody consistent to stick with.

The discord has roughly 3k people from all the regions so you can usually get matches in a more appropriate time against strong opponents (or opponents around your skill level). Not to mention the resources compiled in the links provided as well as direct input from people who regularly go to locals / tourneys with that character. It's a huge source of information and practice.

nonsense, you're doing much bettter than most of the people I run into in public lobbies, it doesn't sound like the character your picking is the issue as much as it is buckling down and actually commiting to learning the hard stuff for a character. I know it took me a long time to get even sort of consistent max damage combos with my main.

Dont lock yourself to mika because you think thats the only character you can play, you can do any characters stuff in this game with enough practice and its feels more rewarding if you love how you play neutral and get hits with them

CVO 22C ender immediate IW is a great setup because you have to block the fully invul IW and then the worms cover the recovery of the IW in a true blockstring. you absolutely have to hold that.

I've never heard the last one but Enkidu is considered the "worst" because of dumb tier lists so choosing him means you're gimping yourself which means you're also trying to "handicap" yourself in fights. Not that any of it is true, but that early tier list really solidified its position.

I haven't heard anyone hate enkidu, the only hate I've seen is people complaining about how low tier he is, most people seem to like him. Although I take any accusations of my character being " gorilla braindead rushdown" as encouragement that I'm playing them correctly.

just play the tutorial and jump right in, getting bodied and asking questions straight away will help you improve much faster. Just get a generic short bnb down and hop on.

I’ve never played an anime game before and the extent of my fighting game playing is Street Fighter Alpha 3, SF4 and SFV. Would this game be too hard for me to understand even if I’m pretty good (enough to win consistently and rank high online) at those games?

I’ve looked some info up on this and it seems daunting.

Ahh so close, the wald match up is tough for hildy.

the tutorial explains almost everything there is to know about this game. Even then, a lot of the veteran tier stuff doesn't come up almost ever at high level. If you already have fighting game experience you shouldn't have too much trouble with learning this game.

Nah, if you know about how inputs and linking combos work you should feel right at home. It would only really take time to get familiar with all the characters' moves so you can block and punish them accordingly. Combos are slightly longer but still mostly grounded if you care about that.

There are a few characters that might even play to your particular style. Who do you play in SF games mainly?

No. Being great maybe a lot of people aren't great. But being decent at UNIST isn't hard. Combos and mechanics are easy to understand and the harder part is decision making and neutral. I play GG/UN and GG is much harder imo just because of some shit that is a pain to block against anyone in the cast really mechanics that are alittle more nuanced and harder execution.

But UNIST is as good as GGXrd Rev1/2 to me because it does a shit ton right in its own regards. But back to the point its not that hard for most of the cast. You can basically approach it like SF4 well learning its own shit and do fine.

Maybe you could try playing a different character for a while? That's what I do when I hit a roadblock with a character. The perspective change often gives me new ideas.

Not him but this helped alot for me actually. New combo route ideas and all that jazz. On top of that, it might be fun to play the new playstyle once you get more invested in it.
