Vocal tracks in games are slim pickings, and that's just off the top of my head, but I'd listen to Last Surprise over TWEWY's town theme or several battle themes any fucking day. I don't even like Persona 3 or 4 music, I think 4's battle theme is abysmal, but the point is that there is BETTER music that you guys could be listening to/talking about/praising/jacking off to. TWEWY does not stand out at all.

This was the last good game made my modern Square.

Fighting for Freedom is alright, but it plays in the first chapter of the game despite being a much better fit for late game

legitimately heartfelt story with likable characters that grow and develop, to the point that even the side characters have their own development
>heavily vocalized OST that enhances the setting of the world and covers a large variety of genres
>soundtrack shuffles as you either exit out of the pause menu, go to another area sometimes, or go into a random battle
>you can change your own pause menu to anyone of your favorite tracks
>you can change the difficulty at anytime and if you suck at the game, it allows you to put your partner in auto until you git gud
>if you die in a battle, you can retry again on your current difficulty or lower it to easy
>you can lower your own health for increased item drops for an awesome risk-vs-reward factor
>you can choose when to fight at anytime with almost no random encounters outside of story related battles and later ambushes
>after you beat the game, you can access any chapter in the main story at anytime you want and unlock bonus content that fleshes the world even more. You can also change your partner whenever and can take on a whole slew of extra bosses hidden within the chapters, even the ones that kicked your ass before
>battle system that takes full advantage of the DS’ hardware in incredibly creative and fun ways
>you can mix and match your gameplay style in anyway you want, whether it’d be close corner combat, long ranged attacks, or a mixture of both.

While TWEWY music is good, it makes me feel extremely isolated. Like I am the only person in the world playing this relic of a game and I am completely alone.

Not sure why most of the songs give me that loneliness feeling but it hinders my enjoyment of the style and entire feel of the game.

Reminder that, when given the choice, the developers chose to cram more music into the cartridge instead of cutscenes. If that ain’t soul, I don’t know what is.

Why did Square fall so hard? They were the peak JRPG developers in the 90s and early 2000s.

I blame three things: Spirits Within, graphic-whoring, and the entirety of the FFXV development cycle.

Merged with Enix and took in some new blood that wanted to "move the company forward" in terms of gameplay. That meant getting rid of the tried and true turn-based battle systems that Square made all of its money and fame on and introducing voiced dialogue that removed the ability to self-insert yourself as the hero. Literally every game since FFX/X-2 has been experimental, and some work while most don't.

I remember the guy in charge of Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts saying something along the lines of how turn-based is dead and people want action. Except for the fact that every game Square Enix has ever made with that approach has been worse received critically than those that came before the big switch. It used to be that everything Square made was absolute gold, and now people wait for sales or complete editions before jumping in because it's just way too risky. It's the new generation of people that they've got working over there that are fucking things up with their big ideas. Octopath Traveler almost had it right, it just needed more structure in terms of how the story and characters came together and interacted with each other. Everything else about that game is beautiful and reminds me of an age long past.

I wouldn't say retarded, but he's spending too much time looking to what he thinks the future is/should be when in reality people would just be happy with the tried and true. Look at how excited people were for Octopath Traveler (which I still love, despite the shortcomings), or like you said how well Persona and Dragon Quest are received even now. Not everything has to be this hugely grand cinematic experience with hyper interactivity for every action of every moment. Sometimes a beautiful story with memorable characters, great music and a simple battle system is all you need for people to consider your game timeless.

My classmate had the game recommended to her in a Yea Forums thread back whenever it came out. And Yea Forums had never given her anything she didnt like up til that point. But she HATED TWEWY.
