Also, Grid 3 revealed

Which Arcade stage is this? I don't remember these games looking so nice

It's Assetto Stage

Imagine hating the only genre that isn't cursed by cancerous cutscenes, lack of challenge, shitty casual audience etc etc

God I miss the ps1 racing games aesthetic so much.

But...that's NFS.

Yeah. It's cursed by mainstream simcade cancer instead.

COOL VIBRATIONS

Me too. Given all the low-poly platformers popping around in the indie scene, I've thought about seeing if a game with these aesthetics but better performance would be something to dream about today.

Horizon has neither the speed and technique of a good arcade racer, or the complexity of a racing simulator. It's this shitty, boring middle ground that pleases neither arcadefags nor simfags. Its only appeal is to shitters who don't play any other racing games either out of ignorance or out of being stuck on consoles.

it pleases me and i play plenty of racing games.

horizon games are comfy fun and nfs was never good

Neither is Burnout, Split/Second, or Rush.

irl cars don’t have NOS pedals

One is the reverse gas pedal.

That...is not inaccurate.

Automatic is super comfy. Only retarded britmutts dont like it

I honestly just find them boring. Fun to pick up and play every now and then but my brother for example plays Forza (and several other driving games) regularly and i just don't understand that.

What's your speed, Yea Forums?
I don't care as long as the game is good

Attached: sliding scale.png (2560x800, 508K)

I would, but Horizon 4 refuses to recognise my DS4 every other time I launch the game and I have to mess with it to make it work every time, and I don't want to play it with the keyboard, so I just ended up not playing it.

This is probably the most accurate assessment I've seen of racing game realism.

Ridge Racer is the only thing I would put below Burnout but above Mario Kart.

I go as high as lite sim but avoid kart racers (it's too easy to get screwed over in a kart racer through no fault of your own).

I can go for all of them to be honest, but I have to be in the right kind of mood to go for proper racing sims. Have to be in that special, number-tweaking and power curve autism mindset or else what's the point.

realism/lack thereof =/= fun
i dont care how realistic or how wacky a game is. that's irrelevant to how enjoyable it is and only a brainlet would think otherwise

Attached: mc3camaro.webm (640x360, 1.14M)

Attached: image.jpg (4032x3024, 3.62M)

I think the VN and sports crowd are more bottom of the barrel than us. But we're plagued by Inital D and NFS nostalgia fags as well so I guess it evens out.

usually arcade is my go-to, but I do like some sim-lites like gran turismo once in a while

Attached: 1516107934003.png (268x273, 72K)

>It's this shitty, boring middle ground that pleases neither arcadefags nor simfags
It's one of the most popular racing games in existence, so I clearly it pleases a lot of people? I like it for building cool cars (especially RWD dragsters) and only stopped playing when they censored the music tracks for literally no reason.

Attached: C2 Launch.jpg (1920x1080, 382K)

Sims are the most difficult so I pretty much only play Assetto Corsa. For me the fun comes from overcoming the challenge and simulators are the most challenging.

Why is pic related so obviously the best racer?

Attached: mario-kart-wii.jpg (1600x800, 51K)

played Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo with my dad. then we got a PlayStation so we played gran turismo and need for speed games together. now I play forza and grid alone

BallisticNG exists, manages to be better than modern Wipeouts

Up to a point, racing games need SOME realism in the physics department because so much of the fun in racing comes from the feel, if the cars feel like weightless toys then they're bad racers no matter how many "b-but it's arcade" excuses you make

Looks like the track is moving around the car. Its shit.

Make good ones

I put probably 1,000 hours into midtown madness 1 and 2. Amazing games

Attached: yahaahhhhhh woahahahoahoahahahahah.jpg (220x152, 10K)

Circled my preferences
>lite sims
Requires a lot of skill and focus, but not as frustratingly punishing or no-fun-allowed as hardcore sims like iRacing (which I would've picked instead of Assetto Corsa since that game lets you drive street cars or mod in the Blue Falcon)
>simcade
These games are usually easy and comfy, good if I want to relax, and are still close enough to reality I can make use of techniques I know (one notch below that becomes awkward and kind of requires its own driving style)
>in between wacky/arcade
Completely forgoes all pretensions of realism and focuses entirely on fun, without the annoying randomness factors of "wacky" racers

Attached: Untitled.jpg (2560x800, 265K)

What game lets me start off with a shitty car and earn money through winning races to spend on upgrades and newer cars?

I played dirt 3 a couple years ago. It was not bad. Pretty fun, not really difficult. The platinum medals felt tight enough. What are some good single-player racing games nowadays? Simcade preferably. Full sims are too autistic for me, I don't want to spend money on wheel and pedals.

Is horizon chase worth it? Its on sale on xbox

That's because the camera isn't swinging in response to the car changing its angle. Ridge Racer (there's a bit of sway but it's mostly fixed to the bumper) and Gran Turismo's camera works that way too.

Older Gran Turismo games. Progression in new racing games is fucked.
>randomized wheels of fortune
>starting you off in a god tier car
>microtransactions and pay walls
You can alter how much sway the camera has in GT

>project cars 2
>sim

Daily reminder that grip is better than drift

This is the most american comment ever

I stopped playing racing games when I learned how to drive because I can't get used to controlling a car without a steering wheel anymore.
I'll get it one day, bros. One day...

i think the poster clearly implied that realism level isn't the only factor but it's definitely not irrelevant

Is there a good racing rpg? Not just a GT progress your career to get new races and cars but like a legit rpg

Well it's annoying as fuck to play. That must count for something.

I do.
>tfw beating all those supercar zoomers with my old shitbox in online

Attached: golf mk1.png (1920x1080, 2.8M)

what's wrong with twin stick shooters?

Choose your camera location
>far chase
>close chase
>roof
>hood
>bumper
>interior

if you play an Initial D game you will realize why the camera doesn't sway and it's because the games would be impossible if it did
It's actually harder to play in 3rd person rather than 1st

>that time
oof, not enough apparently

based interior

I tried project cars 2 and it was autistic as fuck, but I liked gran turismo since I got GT2 as a kid, so I guess that's where I draw the line.

Far chase or interior, nothing in between.

Hood or bumper depending on game/car. Cockpit cam sucks, it doesn't feel like actual driving, it just blocks your view.

Remember Blur? I wish more people remembered Blur.

Attached: blur-screenshot-003.jpg (1080x608, 56K)

but it's in moonspeak

Holy shit those physics are pure ass. I'll stick with Forza thanks

Actually, I worded it wrong anyway. I'm saying the camera doesn't stay FIXED. It's basically glued to the bumper.

Normally the camera just stays pointing straight ahead and then gradually readjusts as the car turns, letting you see the car actually curve through the turn.

How many Americans here can /drivestick/?

Attached: 20190510_165125.jpg (1960x3318, 3.52M)

1 and Autosport have very similar handling, wtf? 2 is the odd one out with its super fast drift nonsense, the other 2 are grounded simcades where all real racing fundamentals apply, they're just less punishing.

>setup you can't heel-toe shift on
lmfao what a retard

Assetto Corsa is like an unstructured Gran Tourismo with more realism options. Hundreds of cars and tracks available as mods and there's even a difficulty slider if you want the AI cars to be slightly slower then you.

it was pretty neat. shame it will never get a sequel with more offline content.

Canadian, but close enough

literally me when I have to drive an automatic

My wife gives me looks when I'm slamming my foot on a phantom clutch pedal.

fuck you buddy I grabbed that on google images

I know this is a meme but my uncle actually use to work at Codemasters and worked on the first 3 Dirts and Grid. basically everyone working there who was good at there job left and the people they replaced them with were nowhere near as good

I lean more towards the wacky/arcade side because the sim side always has you drifting like a madman on slight turns even at a (relatively) low speed, you get heavily penalized for crashing into virtually anything or it even outright destroys your car, and constantly having to play in manual micromanaging the gears just so you can keep up with anyone is not something I can personally keep up with when I'm trying to consider turns at high speed and stuff. I understand there's others that like it but that's definitely not for me.

That one week when they had the online beta on 360 was wonderful, it's such a shame it got canned so quickly.

HATE BRITAIN

Attached: product_96748_1_orig.jpg (369x369, 16K)

Me and most of my friend group and guys I drive with use stick.

A racer that has enough realism to feel like a decent approximation of real world driving but doesn't fully dedicate to simulating it. Though honestly you can just think of it as console simulators since they're almost all designed with a general console audience and gamepads in mind.

Between close and far chase depending on how fast I go.

Recommend me some that are on PC then

Any good modern ones?

Cars handle somewhat like real cars using real cars either as a basis or real cars in general, drifting handles roughly like real cars, but you can slam full force into other cars or walls without any real detriment to you. It basically tries to simulate reality but the gameplay itself plays more like a mix of something that's not realistic and something that is realistic. I believe Driveclub would be the example of a simcade game.

1. The entire point is to recreate the infinitely superior classic physics, modern physics are an afterthought.
2. Who cares about campaign? Just play custom races.
3. There's probably going to be custom campaigns using 2280 physics eventually since that's a thing now.

I strongly disagree. They're just better especially in this game in particular because the classic physic feels worse than Wipe2097/3 to me, and the HD physics are somehow even better than the real thing.

thicc

I can. Most people who get in my car and realize it's a manual give me a weird look.

I also have a Class B CDL, and can drive an old twin stick (if you don't know, well now you know, and haha it's a unique driving experience) as well as anything up to the big 18 speed transmissions.

My old 2003 Spec-V has 238k miles on it and is on the original 6 speed transmission. I think it needs a new rear suspension assembly so I'm probably just going to retire it.

My ZR2 has 187k miles. I think it's transmission #3 but I'll be honest it's just a fuckaround truck so a lot of pointless swaps get done to it.

My beatbox STi has 89k miles on it and I think after the next suspension replacement I'll retire it. Been using it to drive rally since I got it, it's a beautiful thing, but I don't think I'd want to commute in it. Can't really get into the headspace of people who do.

My Firebird has 22k miles on it. 4 on the floor is a great thing.

Just bought a brand new Civic Si, enjoying it, although man these modern transmissions are a trip. It's like I'm shifting nothing at all.

My dad taught me to drive manual and my friend's dad taught me to drive trucks.

have both GRID and GRID 2 from giveaways, but never played them, are they arcade-y or simulators?

You've got no clue how good you have it TMfag, it's one of the most competitive arcade racer series around if you want good competition you'll get it there. Other arcade racers don't have that audience

That livery looks like newsprint paper mache.

It is the only racing game I know of with monthly cups across a range of styles

Last week some french fag won 350 euros in a fullspeed tournament

Dangerous Driving is OK. Not great. It's closer to Burnout Dominator than 3/Revenge and the lack of budget makes it look like a stock Unreal 4 fan remake. There's no music at all even. You have to use the consoles controls, use a MP3 player on PC or link Spotify for it to play in game (And you need Spotify Premium).

I'm surprised he remembered to drop the handbrake. Apparently a lot of Americans literally never use it.

The problem with actual driving games is that there is fucking no margin for error. You are constantly going through the same motions over and over again trying to earn probably a few seconds off your previous time. It's probably the most skill based genre ever.

It's pretty cool when you race against someone around or below your level.

I'd say between gtsport and pcars2
the handling is not really a simulation but unlike gt sport it has tyre, brakes and engine temperature, tyre degradation, dynamic weather, engine parts also wear over the course of the championship and races require strategy with pitstops and fuel mix/ers management
however open wheelers are shit in pcars2 but it's more focused on gt cars

Really can't go wrong with Dirt Rally or Dirt Rally 2, fucking fantastic games only problem is a lack of courses making it easy to memorize them all and turning the game into a more traditional time attack but it's great fun that way too.

If you like competitive things consider iRacing which is the esports league of simulators. You can start with Assetto Corsa as it's cheap and has similar physics.

Dirt Rally 1/2 has daily events with worldwide leader boards. Could be worth your time too.

Buddy of mine does. Thank god too, that shit saved his life.

just watch out for verstappen in iracing, literally

I'm gonna lose my shit if this becomes an Epic exclusive

What is the best Trackmania game for someone that dabbled with the first in middle school?

So basically, the easier it is to oversteer the more realistic the game is

Attached: Nissan 350z.jpg (1530x792, 98K)

I'm more on the left side, though I can take a little Lite Sim with some time to adapt.

Is grid 2 worth installing?

it's shanghai you fucking cunt

What is a carfu supposed to be? A dream car i'd like to drive for free or a dream car that I can actually maitain?

Why do people on Yea Forums praise the ricer era of NFS games so much? Even as a kid I always thought they handled like ass

Nobody cares about the games and their handling they just like to throw the meme lyrics around and remember the good ol days. Same story with Ridge Racer and other "muh aesthetic" racers, almost none of these ppl are racing game fans.

because kids back then liked riced cars
hip hop culture was also into those cars
now even fast and furious isn't about riced cars anymore

350z is pretty bad irl

>VOL.157
That's a lot of drifting.

god damn Genki, just get your shit back together already and make a TXR3
there's only so much you can do polishing this turd of a game

racing newfag here, only played burnout games and GRID (which were great). I'm not into sim mechanics, and I want to start playing through all the good arcade-style racing games. anyone got a list/infograph? I have no idea where to start. I don't think I would like sprite-based or top-down racing games so should I just start at PS1? pls help

Soiled it.

This is your brain on /o/. It's a perfectly good car. The only issues are that it's a tiny amount heavier than it needs to be and there's a giant strut in the rear that makes it a bit impractical for daily use.

PS1/N64 is a good place to start yeah, stuff like Wipeout, Ridge Racer, F-Zero, Rollcage, Side By Side, Destruction Derby, Hydro Thunder, NFS games, etc. The best place to start though is actual arcade racers, especially Sega ones like Daytona, Sega Rally, Outrun 2, Initial D, SCUD, etc. but the problem is that you will need a lot of different specific emulators like model 3 emu because some games either didnt get any ports at all or only got crappy ones. Outrun 2 is on PC though

Attached: extra long powerslide.webm (900x506, 2.93M)

thanks, user. Ill look those up

I've been trying to get AS8 working but the only thing that just refuses to work is force feedback. It just keeps turning left and locking

Gimme a game where I can drift2win, already played plenty of Outrun 2006
No sim shit please

There is already steam store page.
Yeah i know it doesn't mean much, but just saying.

You're an /o/ fag right? How do you afford so many cars? Where do you live?

Holy shit lad I read this before. I'm from New Hampshire. What part are you from?

GRID 2

>they're niggers
What a surprise
Also nevermind this is Florida. I remember a different story I read and it was only 1 dude. Not 2 neegars

>arcade racing casually
Close chase
>arcade racing seriously
Far chase
>sim racing casually
Interior
>sim racing seriously

used cars are cheap in america

Is there any game out there with this majestic car?

Attached: 1541884270058.jpg (900x600, 400K)

>in America
Cars with less then 150k miles for under $10k that aren't lemons don't exist in California.

Forza Horizon 4
Forza Motorsport 7

>who cares if racing games have no content just race around the same track trying to save half a second of your time

Who are you quoting?

I probably played this game for hundreds of hours online with my buddies back in middle school. Those were truly the best of times, saddens me that there's nothing that gives me that same feeling anymore.

Coming home from school, booting your 360 up, and getting ready to screw your buddies up in some blur races, nothing like it.

Hood/bumper for life.
Cockpit sucks

Thank you so much!
I'm really appreciate it.

What are some good games that have good competition through time trials? All I know is F-Zero and am looking for more.

Reminder that Blur was killed by Split Second:Velocity (c) Disney Interactive studio.

based and kudopilled

No, that stupid pitch mechanic is terrible, there's no feedback to it at all

I'm a burnout boy

Pitching has always been in Wipeout including the new ones which have less feedback. You can visibly see your ship pitching its nose upwards or downwards, the camera changes, and it has effects on how your ship flies that are very easy to notice. Precise pitching is also not necessary for decent speeds, it's high level optimization

The Buffalo from San Andreas instantly came to mind when I saw your pic.
I know it's supposed to be a Pontiac or something but still.

Not in ballistic NG it's not, it's only really noticeable when you're facedown into the track

And you need to be ab e to do it good to win even the intermediate CPU races

Redpill me on IDAS, what's the most mechanically complex and difficult game in the series as far as time trials go? Which should I avoid?

Dirt Rally.
Yeah, the physics are more realistic, but drifting is beneficial on dirt and gravel.

Where does rF2 and iracing belong on that scale? I'm mostly an asscorsa fag. Driving in shuto expressway is maximum comfy.

Nope, you can win every single race in campaign and even get good time trial records without touching the pitching at all. Preventing smashing into the track is also just a matter of holding pitch up on landing or when going uphill. The only problem is Luna, but even if you smash the track hard at most that's a 500ms time loss, you can lose more time by just taking a corner too wide.

I do, these days mostly dirt rally and moto gp18

NEW TOKYO XTREME RACER WHEN?!!! I NEED IT!!
seriously the health bar depletion as the other car gets away from you would be amazing online.

Why do people hate cockpit cam? It's fucking great actually seeing the interior of the car and the wheel actually turning as you steer it. Do you all hate immersion or something?

It limits your fov.
The closest I will go is dash cam, cockpit cam is just reducing how much of the road I can see to less than half my monitor.
I consider it only advantageous for triple monitor or VR.

Either far chase or hood for me, no inbetween.

What do I do

On par with AC.

If you're not playing iRacing, you're not living.

go to the teknoparrot forums?

Does Teknoparrot have online leaderboards?

All the GX girls, and you choose the most bland one.

This, but unironically.

I used to kill time on that about 2 and half years ago when I got a new job and was mostly sitting around killing time with nothing going on. It was an okay time waster, but I fell out of it after about a year or so. Real Racing 3 is what I play now when I'm looking to pass time.

It says 3 in the center of the screen at the start of the video, retard.

Here's proof. No pitching ever, hardcore AI, hardest standard ship in the game, hardest standard track in the game and I still btfo the AI on the very first lap, and the lap times get shorter once you get away from the pack. Afraid you simply have to git gud instead of blaming the game.

I actually wanted to post Mrs. Arrow but couldn't find the image in my f-zero folder, f-zero has many fun characters but Jody was my older bro's main in X

what said, it doesn't help that i have a small monitor and am so used to playing quake with a fov of 130
my only real practical hype for VR headmounts is it finally feeling natural to sit in a cockpit and look where you want to look naturally

>flossing and dabbing
These are topical and awesome, though
