Classic monster hunter is better though personally for the more unique monsters instead of a large amount of them being wyverns and Generations Ultimate gives you many different ways to play each of the 12 weapons along with loads of fun and unique armor and weapon designs to collect.

Only thing you need to worry about starting out is growing your defense on armor. Once you get to the end game and start farming g rank / tempered monsters is when you'll probably need sets to get elemental resistance to certain monsters.

Otherwise it's all about learning each monster's tells.

No, but your armor/weapon isn't gonna carry you through the game, your skill is ultimately what matters, armor skills only make you more efficient at getting the most out of your weapon.

World combat is such fucking garbage that it might as well be MMO combat. The older games definitely aren't.

It's not confusing. Game is pretty easy once you've been at it for a while and learn the ropes, very enjoyable game I might add.

It is when it's done right, and MHW did it right. Probably the first time I've ever seen a game do it right, now that I thibk. Most of them are QoL updates that don't affect the core draw of the game.

Personally I like Bazelguse more but I see where your coming from.

Playing GU ruined my likes for the World monsters with ones like Valstrax and Ahtal-Ka far surpassing the likes of Nergigante and Xeno'Jiva.

Quality of life improvements are not "casual."

Not OP, but a new monhun player here. Just got to the rotten vale. What should I prepare going forward. It looks like the map will be my enemy just as well as the monsters. And just killed a Radobaan. My equips are quite good I think. Almost a full Rathalos set except the mail. And using the Bone smasher II swax.

If you press any direction while attacking, you get the slide.

You hold a direction while pressing the attack button to slide after an attack. You gotta get into the habit of letting go of the control stick when doing the charge slash

List of problems with Iceborne:

World Also added 5 new monsters to the game.
Althou 2 of those are event only.
Also Regular Leshen and ainchent leshen play differently.
Ainchent leshen has like 4 more attacks so its almost 6 new monsters.
But the regular leshen is SP only so i guess he technically doesn't count as a real hunt so id say its 5.

Meeting the game has 36 monsters in the base version.
If ice-borne ads just half of that that would be 53 monsters.
Like all other Ultimate/G versions of games.

Well, you can thank Capcom for that one since they're obviously deliberately appealing to mouth breathers with World.

MHWfags are actually this desperate to defend their game.

It's on 3DS, 240p, and less than 30fps. Would rebuy the game if Capcom ports it to Steam. After World, I just couldn't go back to 3DS MH games. Playing MH on bigger screen with real controller is just too good.

Its basically just standing at optimal range to deal damage indicated by a double circle.
Shooting at bad range will make you deal almost no damage.
As for amo you van buy most of it but you will require to do some fishing and farm specific items in the garden.

Light bowgun has better movement speed and dodging but uses weaker ammo cna its special ability is basically impact mines that explode when hit you use when the monster is immobilized so your team can deal more damage.
Or you can plae them in such a way the monster hits them.
Light bowguns also have a wider range of Ailment ammo.

Heavy bowguns can use stronger ammo and have a larger magazine and can equip a shield but suck at dogging usually reload slower.
But can use cluster artillery bombs sywern amo which is smilar to what the gunlance can do and Can ether work like a hevy mashine gun or a sniper explosive pentration ammo depending on the specil ammo.
But its slow as fuck reloads slower and has a slower but decntly ranged doge.
It can block many atacks which is nice.


Normal shot can deal the most damage when aiming for weak monster parts.
Piarce ammo is best vs giant or long monsters.
Spreed is good all around but requires you get close.
Sticky ammo is basicly this games version of long range ammo as it deals its damage once it explodes not on hit so range doesnt matter as long as its in range it also deals more break damage.
Slice ammo is same as Sticky only ti deals cutting damage.
Elemntal ammo is garbige only to be used if your Light bowgun cant use good normal ammo but you can buff it using Elemntal decorations to make it better than normal shot but only use it on light bowgun its not so great on hevy bowgun as it just has better otpions.
Dragon amo is only good for elder seal ity travels slowly so it can do serous damage to elder dragons if you shoot it right.
Status ailment amo is self explanatory.

There's almost zero variation for the meta sets. Every single melee weapon uses the Behemoth set and then socket for almost exactly the same skills.

To be fair most of the monster numbers in older games are also just monster variants.
Stuff like Ragin Rajang or Savage Deviljho or Multiclored rathalosses which i agree World also does.

Ancient Leshen is practically a variant of Leshen and previous games got away with calling recolors new monsters.

4U or GU. Theres also FU which can be emulated but the gameplay is dated and clunky. Still if you have the patience for it try it out.

A lack of content combined with the merging of village and gathering hub/port quests with the new forced investigation mechanic made things go either too quickly or too slow at all points during the game.

Not to mention the lack of free updates and monster additions, and what little they did add are all limited time events, rather than one time downloads that can be replayed at any point.

They tried to throw so many new things at the wall to see what sticked instead of focusing on refining combat as much as they should have. While bowgun/bow changes were welcome and nice, and some of the new moves a lot of the weapons got were cool, the balance was all sorts of lobsided and fucked up. Not to mention how spammable and easy to abuse bombs are now via slingers.

It also doesn't help that status ailments are nearly impossible to inflict online outside of the throwing knives or ranged weapons, meaning status weapons are dog shit, even on SnS.

I hope they NEVER do a sloppy mixed bag like this again, but I'm absolutely sure they will since it was both the best western marketed and westernized release they've ever had and because it's the best selling game in the franchise by far, this is all we'll be seeing from now on.

While I'm hopeful for iceborn, I know it's going to be an empty slog just like world.

One thing even the most rabid MHW fan has to admit is that the weapon and armor designs in MHW are really boring and uninspired.

You have to admit though, making content for 1080p-4k game is going to be exponentially harder to make than 480p hand held games. I'm fine with being patient as long as we get content over time instead of in bulk.

Weapon design yes, but there are a lot of armor designs I like a lot. My personal favorites being Odp and Bazel.

Is World your first MH? Because world has the most bland realistic style of any game in the series if anything it has the least cosplay-ish outfits and especially the weapons suffer from this and this is one of the areas where I think most people agree the game is inferior

Best way to farm decos?

Gunner main here

1. The Tree lets you get every component you could possibly need
2. Ailment ammo is useless
3. Never use shield with HBG. HBG is for cluster bombing only, everything else LBG does better in practice as it can actually move and dodge
4. Best ammo type is Spread, period, end of story. If you don't have a good Spread gun, you can use Karma (LBG) and normal 2s which also work well.
5. Never use pierce, it was heavily nerfed
6. LBG trip mines will also trigger if you shoot over them (in the little red mist zone). Use this to manually trigger them. They can trigger twice before disappearing. Also you can stack them on a KD'd/sleeping monster for big dick burst.

And finally

7. Bows are for complete faggots, do not use them. Unless you are a min-max speedrun MLG autist in which case you really don't have much choice.

we barely got any content. we had some remixed arena and story quests to get layered or normal armor. We got Deviljho as the only patched in monster when they said they were looking into adding more over time.

They under delivered on content, hands down, no question. The excuse of them making things with more graphical fidelity is invalid as well, seeing as how outside of the new skeletons for a handful of monsters in world, they're very much using the same rigging tools for animations. It's practically the same shit under the hood. Only difference is adding all the unnecessary detail into the environment and areas that straight up get unused outside of acting as potential monster track gathering places. They focused so much on making the arenas of the map to be something that can be 'explored' with little reward for exploring outside of new fast travel nodes because traversing the maps takes way too long in world otherwise.

Making monster hunter prettier ultimately resulted in hurting the number of monsters and content.

But LBG spread does it better in almost all situations because realistically the monster isn't going to just stand there and let your slow turret ass shoot at it willy-nilly; and while HBG dodge does cover a large amount of distance, it has almost zero i-frames. With LBG you can actually avoid being smacked by the monster and as such have greater uptime.

Ailment and elemental ammo has been nerfed repeatedly in the games history, to the point where there really isn't much point in using them. Even on monsters that are weak to an ailment, you'll do way more just using regular ammo. It's kind of like how no one bothers using elemental blademaster weapons except for dual blades. Raw is just better in every situation.

Whats the sharpness on your weapons? If its too low, your attacks bounce, so you need to build a weapon with more sharpness (It goes red > yellow > green > white > purple), or use your whetstone

With the impact mantle and knowing the monsters stun/trip thresholds you can easily stun lock monsters from 100 to 0 with the glutton.

The only gundam armor I like are the clean designs like the Zaku and the Leo. I don't like busy designs that have spikes and wings and all that other stuff going on. It's just a personal thing but I don't like the over the top kind of aesthetics.
I understand how it feels to have an established series being torn apart by developers that don't care, I didn't know it was happening with Monster Hunter. I'm more of a classic CRPG and strategy games guy so I had to see it happen to Fallout and C&C and a bunch of other stuff.

You make think this is edgy but I only really liked the Pukei armor in MHW though not for the reasons you probably think. I liked it because it's not bulking and huge, you aren't half naked, and you're green. You look like somebody that is about to go stalking big game in the bush. As far as armor goes the design seems sensible to me compared to a bunch of the other ones.

For example, gs is a straight upgrade with now having not only changed sheath, but 3 charged attacks that you need to time as tight as you can for max possible tcs, a tackle to stun/tank, and that posttackle swing that is surprisingly effective when charged. Like, triple the options. Just one weapon. Ls has a defensive option and a finisher to get off the samey rotation of mindless spirit spam too. And they didnt take away a thing as far as im aware. Hitboxes are as wonky as ever too, true mh experience. What is it you dont like?

I can agree that in regards to a chunk of the MHW content simply being "same monster but more dmg and more hp" is dumb as fuck and needs to stop. However, even with this being the case, if the creators gave a fuck more to actually care about adding new moves or behavior patterns or what have you to the monsters it could be immensely better.

I can see that really, especially given one could argue given the mass appeal MHW had it may have had that aim to do such mitigation of stupidity for the sake of the casual audiences (and oh how we love them running around with no sense of proper skill selection or build making only to die in more serious fights like ATs and similar).

However at least there is the benefit of walking and being able to roll, albeit losing the potion in the process, but at least you got something and maybe even lived compared to a possible low HP and gunned at by a charging Diablos unluckily to die and take a cart.

Overall, it is a trade off, maybe some form of better mixing between the two styles will do best (not counting how Max/Ancient Potions are close to the equivalent or could be the way to go but need to take longer to some slight degree to do).

Ls wasnt your headcannon, it was always about mobility first and keeping damage up with repositioning/defensive windows and it is now more ls than it ever has been with parry added that forwards your main damage window if you land a hit by pushing you up a level, or helmsplitter that has an effective activation and damage area of approximately 3 kilometers, gundams you into airplane to dodge some of the attacks, and then lets you hit it 360 degrees around so you can literally jerk off with it all over the place while having a stroke it and still not miss.
Why the fuck someone would even care about elemental damage is beyond me though, do you really need an excuse to farm 10 more rathaloses and legianas and whatever else to collect every element and swap them between hunts? Just install that skin mod and swap your weapon skins if you care so much, you wont even notice the difference.

As for ranged players pretty much, albeit their damage apparently doesn't compare to a melee hunter, it still means at least their DPS might be higher due to evading as needed to continue damage output safely. The most they did was make it where ranged have less physical defense to make mistakes more punishing but that doesn't really solve the issue of the lack of monster attacks to cause issues for ranged hunters.

I care about Elemental Damage because it is a nice added boost due to the consistent and rapid strikes a longsword can do. The fact Helmsplitter has a MASSIVE Elemental Co-Ef reduction means Anything but Pure Raw is pointless.

I rather enjoyed Rathian as a sword of consistent leveling Longsword. Now it's literally Bone Sword into Divine Slasher into KT Flame.

Youre stuck in one place while mashing spirit combo anyway, the fact that you now have an equally long attack that can be launched independently doesnt really take away from your mobility that much, if at all. Sure achieving the highest dps would glue to place for quite some time, it was always the case, with every single weapon, balancing attacking with repositioning and dodging is the whole point of mh combat, always were, the only thing that changed for ls in that regard is that now you have a reason to look for bigger openings for those spirit into splitter combos, doesnt mean you need to launch it every time youre at max level and get hit. Ds meatgrinder takes even longer, doesnt mean its an immobile weapon. Just act appropriately with the openings.

X came out before World, XX just being the obligatory G-rank edition of any game. I highly doubt their focus isn't completely on World games from now on.

Also the healing animation a little bit longer than it did in previous games, but since you can also move its a worthwhile tradeoff

AT can be great as fights with organized teams or competent randoms indeed, I remember my first AT fight VS AT Kirin with randoms going so damn well we killed it in 10 minutes or less before I could blink.

However, it gets frustrating when some fights get really, really against you in giving no favors, or especially when little means to properly get ally hunters to give a fuck about what they are doing instead of carting but that's outside of the fight itself. Still, it can get overly rough at times, and questionable immensely at others.

"World" is a pretty wide word, it surely will have future games with all kinds of changes to core mechanics, not just map and monster packs to the mhw. There is truly a lack of hipchecks in many monster's movesets sadly and it cause for an immense lack of being mindful of positioning yeah.

Hopefully that is something they fix down the line as you can very easily defeat most monsters just by attacking from a side.

If only people didn't try to mix in Worlds actual faults (Weapon designs, monster variety) with their personal opinions on MH (gathering, QOL being casualizations).
