Additionally, unlike prisons in third-world shitholes like America, prisons in Japan focus on actual rehabilitation by way of paid prison labor and educational opportunities. Anyone who goes to prison can still start over in life by taking their time in prison seriously, behaving themselves so they get parole as early as possible, and acting like a decent human being when they get back out.

Why is alimony such a shit? I think the concept behind it is reasonable, help pay for your wife's living expenses if she hasn't been able to attend school/get experience working if she's been a housewife or some shit, but a lot of it is plain unreasonable, like 75% of your income plus they the house and car but you have to pay off the mortgage on top of that.
I grew up poor so losing my financial stability after finally getting a decent job would probably kill me inside.

Adachi had a good life but wanted way more. He was friends with Dojima and the protag and if he focused a little less on his career and academics he'd enjoy life a little more.

The problem is that alimony isn't reduced once they find a new lover or a good well paying job. So in the end you're paying the difference to make their living situation the same as if they continued to have the job or no job they did after divorce, and it's very difficult to get it reduced until years later.
This is why if you're rich you should get a reasonable prenup which lays down the foundation for a reasonable alimony in case of divorce that gas certain conditions such as being reduced when the woman finds a new husband or living partner etc. If you're not rich you really only have to worry about child support, which is equally fucked in that often times you have to pay for it well past them turning 18
