Zelda’s new design.
Shulk 2.0
I never noticed the Hylian Crest. That may actually be Zelda.
I mean it looks similar enough but didn't they just start recruiting for that project?
Wasn't the one in the OP in development for awhile now (that is if they're not the same project and are just hiring some crew to wrap things up)?
Someone give me a rundown on what this is? I’m very confused.
Monolithsoft's (Xenoblade Chronicles developers) concept art for a game they've been working on for awhile now.
Should hopefully see it's reveal at E3, if not later this year.
Monolith soft is making a new game. That pic was used as an insight as to what type of game it might be.
Some people are speculating that it might be a new zelda game
it´s probably the next fantasy rpg from atlus
Incel
Is that Android 21?
Anything from Monolith Soft will make it a great e3 for me
Didn't they say that they will focus only on games releasing this year? Also I don't really expect the next Monolith Soft game to be ready so quickly after XC2.
Monolith Soft now has 209 people.
During the development of XC2 they were like 140 and half of the team was split with Botw.
is this actually something that leaked or just some random art?
The next GOTY MC
I don't think Takahashi is that involved in this project. Also we generally see some of next year at E3 so I think we'll get a Gameplay teaser.
See
The Zelda speculation comes from this
Using Google Translate, Monolith Soft is looking for MAIN CHARACTER DESIGN in a Zelda game. Not even background NPV. Why is Monolith Soft asking people to design the most important characters in a Zelda game?
This lead to people speculating that they’re doing a Zelda game instead of helping with one
>focus only
Not "only". The majority of the Direct will be about this year's games, but they announce stuff for the future as well. They do it every time and people get hung up on "focus"
it's not a zelda game
it's a new fantasy game
they're following atlus after atlus said they were going to make an old school fantasy game
Assuming this is concept art for the next Zelda game that Monolith Soft is helping to make, I hope it doesn't detract away from the amount of members available for the next Xenoblade title. Especially if it's XCX2. I want them to have as many people on board as possible. I really hope it isn't a Zelda game though and a new IP from them all together.
>Following Atlus
I'm pretty sure the Fantasy Game from Monolith was in the works before Re:Fantasy was even announced.
>Why is Monolith Soft asking people to design the most important characters in a Zelda game?
Hopefully for an action RPG Zelda. I would rather have them do an RPG crossover with more Nintendo franchises as a side project though, that could be fun.
If that's the case, it would make sense given they've been assisting the Zelda team since 2011. Would it be mainline though without Aounuma?
I'm hoping it's something classical with some politics thrown in. Like have a FFT or Vagrant Story tier narrative scope.
It's art from monolithsoft is it not?

They’re asking the exact same thing. I’m pretty sure they’re doing a Zelda. Main character designer and in game animators are pretty much a proof
Whatever it is, I hope it's primarily a Monolith Soft game. Although, I don't think Takahashi has much influence in it's development. It's a shame too, because I wanted to see mechs in a fantasy setting. Think, Escaflowne.
Nope. That's the Persona team's new project.
>I'm pretty sure the Fantasy Game from Monolith was in the works before Re:Fantasy was even announced.
atlus announced re:fantasy mid 2017
monolith first showed that concept art for their game in 2018, well after atlus
it's clear they're just following atlus
Escaflowne organic mecha are great. Who was the mech designer?
MonlithSoft will somehow get robots in there too.
op's picture is from monolith
This, last year they said the same and announced Daemon X Machina
Just because they're both making fantasy games with probably female leads doesn't mean anyone is chasing the other. This seems like passion projects for Altus and MonlithSoft.
Wasn't referring to OP but to the image posted.
I honestly doubt it. Especially if this ends up being a Zelda game, which are primarily fantasy to begin with. If it isn't a Zelda game, it's entirely possible that they could be simply making a fantasy title as well. The head of Monolith Soft, Takahashi has been talking about making a real fantasy game for ages.
>an Escaflowne Monolithsoft game
muh dick
Monolith Soft is the new Square Enix, prove me wrong.
Monolith Soft would do a better Zelda game than the zelda team themselves.
The new Square Soft*
FTFY
actually atlus announced their game in 2016
siliconera.com
That aesthetic is great,I hope it didn't get canned for a fucking Zelda.Zelda sucks.
Weren't there talks of it being an MMO?
Have they ever done puzzles before? I'd love to see them try.
I really hope XCX2 has better mech designs. I wasn't really a fan of the Skell designs, honestly. Throw in some Escaflowne tier mechs, and I'm sold.
>Monolith is the new Square Enix
Except they're actually competent and know how to make games with limited budget, unlike Squeenix who blow millions for years on absolutely nothing. I don't think they'll ever recover from the mistake that was XV, even if it sold millions. It's ironic too, considering Monolith Soft was originally part of Square Enix to begin with. It's poetic justice.
no RPG company will ever beat PS1 era Squaresoft
Xenoblade games aren't too big on puzzles. They focus more so on the overall world, setting, and exploration factor. Dungeons, puzzles, that stuff isn't really primary in their games. I don't doubt that they could make some good ass puzzle dungeons if they wanted to, though.
Hey I remember all those games. They all dead now. lol
>It's ironic too, considering Monolith Soft was originally part of Square Enix to begin with. It's poetic justice.
It's crazy when you think about it. Between XC1's release in 2010, and Torna's release in 2018, they've made 4 relatively solid games. Whereas you put XV in the same time span, and it was still an unfinished mess. I literally don't know what goes on at Square Enix.
A toast, to Zohar Gang.
They announced that they were hiring for a new fantasy game, but then I think either monolith or nintendo announced they were hiring for a new zelda
Monolith is owned by Nintendo, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were helping develop the next Zelda game. On the other hand, I hope the Fantasy IP is an entirely new project from Monolith as a whole. Takahashi did say that he's been wanting to develop a proper Fantasy game, for awhile now.
>Would it be mainline though without Aounuma?
Consider this: the Oracle Games are basically third party games made by Capcom and they are considered mainline.
Monolith is a first party developer. A Monolith Zelda would be absolutely mainline.
I know they are owned by Nintendo but I was just saying that monolith announced that they were hiring and released art, but then either of the companies already mentioned announced they were hiring for zelda
It was monolith.
twitter.com
here's the tweet.
I'd love for Monolith to help make a new Zelda game with the Oracles Timeline as a basis. I feel like these games were severely underrated, and the gimmicks were pretty fun to boot. I played through both Ages, and Seasons recently and had a blast.
So.. does this mean it's a unique Monolith project, or might it still be a Zelda title? Also nice, Saber.
I used to think that the Oracles were underrated then I found out they sold 4.5 million copies, as much as Alttp
MOMMY!
Here's another picture
It's an action game with online multiplayer, that much we know
>Weren't there talks of it being an MMO?
It would be the only way to get me to pay for online to be honest.
>then I found out they sold 4.5 million copies
I never knew that, damn.
I mean Monolith Soft hired a bunch of porn artists for xenoblade 2
Japanese devs do this all the time.
They're the best artist.
>your favorite porn artist now works on the next monolith game
how is it ?
The concept arts for both of those released at the same time in 2017 right before the release of Xenoblade 2. They brought back the knight one in a more recent hiring, but they were both originally shown for the "new fantasy IP"
My guess is, BotW was Zelda with heavy Monolith Support. This new game will be a Monolith Zelda but with a heavy Nintendo support, using the Engine and assets of BotW as a base. That gives Monolith 2 years of development time as of Fall of this year. I am pretty certain that they are going to try to get it to release for Spring 2020.
An E3 reveal.
Remember that at this point in time of its system life, the PS4 hadn't even received Bloodborne yet.
Reminder that more time has already passed since this art was revealed than there was between the release of Xenoblade X and Xenoblade 2.
>gorgeous concept
>final product will be an "open world" rpg full of anime same-face people with conflicting European-derived word-salad names
I wonder how long it would take for technology to emulate this art style in real time.
>Monolith soft is making a game
>It's not Baten Kaitos 2
Life is suffering
but that's retarded
they're two different pages posted in a 2 years interval, it doesn't make any sense for them to be the same project
Baten Kaitos 3 never EVER
It hurts to live, user. The first two were great games.
>people still taking job recruit concept art at face value
>Monolith's ones, even
It will look nothing like it
WHERE IS THIS GAME
Ask Yea Forums from 2012 or something, they will tell you it's Xenoblade X.
Whatever it is, Im buyin it.
The concept art they show on their hiring page often has nothing to do with the actual project beside giving off a very vague general idea of the theme or setting. See: the concept art back when they were hiring for an undisclosed 3DS title that turned out to be the 3DS port of Xenoblade 1.
vore freaks should go to the to woods and get eaten by wolves
This. Whatever they do, I'm in. Even when they make flawed games (Disaster Day of Crisis), I always find something in them actually best described as "soul"
What Honne said about the pre-production work they did on BK3 broke my heart. It's not fucking fair.
>Nezumi designs a Nopon dating minigame that ends with the MC turning the Nopon's vagina inside-out by fisting
I'm down.
All of the girls are fatties
>Satou Kuuki
Well, I know EXACTLY how the villain will be designed.
Female King Arthur.
>Monolith Soft makes a non-Xenoblade game worth noticing for the first time in ages
So hard is it gonna flop? Even in this topic people can't imagine it not being Xeno-lite in some aspect.
Don't think that user is saying they are the same project, rather pointing out that the Zelda project might be mostly developed by Monolith themselves since they are hiring character designers when they usually just assist with environments, textures, assets, etc. on other Nintendo games.
I would kill for a new Baten Kaitos the first two were such unappreciated masterpieces.
Depends entirely on what sort of game it ends up being, although I think anything can be reasonably successful as long as it's marketed properly and isn't complete shit.
>where are they gonna a new ip
>new ip game comes out
>we dont want this, where is the new xeno game
Xenogears, Xenosaga, Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade X also had porn artists design characters or armor.
CHOCO, who's done character designs for Xenosaga 3 and armor designs for Xenoblade X has been primarily known as a hentai artist since the fucking 90s
Monolith's main art director since the beginning, Yasuyuki Honne, designed XB1's cast and literally has a Final Fantasy x Street Fighter doujin on Exhentai right now.
Tanaka (Xenogears/Xenosaga 1/Xenoblade X) is probably the most innocent artist involved with Xeno but draws ecchi stuff like naked loli cat girls.
Honne didn't design XB1's cast, what are you talking about?
He quickly designed the early concepts when the armor designers realized they needed characters for reference.
Who is the character designer of 1 cast? I love his/her artstyle but I can’t find the name.
Do you have a source for that? As far as I'm aware, all he's credited for is designing the model of the Bionis and Mechonis.
Those games weren't made by Capcom, they were made by Flagship and the director was Fujibayashi who directed Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild and will probably replace Aonuma. I don't really know why people keep attributing these games to Capcom, they were funding Flagship, but so was Nintendo (and Sega)
The same dude who designed the armors
>liking fishfaces
Even XS2 had better character design
How the fuck did we go from this to retarded anime bullshit
I pray to God XC3 looks nothing like 2.
I know this artstyle may be ugly in the eyes of some people, but I like how it stands out compared to other JRPGs.
It looks like every single jrpg from the early 00's what are you talking about
>How the fuck did we go from this to retarded anime bullshit
it's literally just because Takahashi was getting tired of the style in XB1 and wanted to know what would happen if they did a complete 180 in terms of art direction
>cool concept art
>will be translated to ugly graphics thanks to Switch hardware
fuck
>Zelda Souls
Name one (1) Xeno game that isn't 'retarded anime bullshit'; They all have anime designs.
>I pray to God XC3 looks nothing like 2.
It probably won't look like 2 and here's why:
XB1's characters are the result of Monolith not being able to find a character designer and had to make characters on the fly.
XB2 is the result of Monolith hiring a freelancer for the main designs and then giving the extra designs to a bunch of prominent character designers in the anime/manga/video game industry. Takahashi also said that the reason for using a diverse number of character designers is because he wanted to give Monolith's 3D modelers more experience since admittedly, Monolith's 3D models are always awful with the exception of Xenosaga 3.
Monolith has actually been hiring a dedicated character designer for the last two years; so we probably won't see freelancers like Tanaka/CHOCO/Saito anymore and we won't have cases like Xenoblade 1 where there were no actual character designers to begin with.
I pray to god you stop being such a faggot.
Thank you
gameinformer.com
>We don't actually have designated character-designers at Monolith soft. We have a couple of very talented illustrators that we work with, but sometimes it’s about finding the partnership that works and doing a bit of trial and error every single time.
nintendoeverything.com
>For the original Xenoblade Chronicles game, this character design artwork simply didn’t exist; all we had were costume designs for the clothing the characters wore. This meant we were forced to create the CG character models to fit those costume designs. And what’s more, the only artwork released of those characters were retouched versions of their CG models – there was no concept art to speak of, not like this at any rate. This exposes one of our shortcomings at Monolith
>On the other hand, at Monolith we pride ourselves on our design of backgrounds and technological gadgets. When I’m setting out to make a game, nothing stokes my creative fires more than all the detailed, high-quality assets our artists turn out, and I’m incredibly grateful to them.
Who the fuck has been asking for a new MonoSoft IP and why do you assume I’m one of them? Other than Xeno they’re pretty forgettable devs. I’m just curious how badly the game will flop when it’s not the one thing they’re known for. Unless you think Baten Kaitos or Project X Zone set the world on fire.
Because aside from those Zelda games and two Kirby games, everything else they worked on were Capcom properties, the company was founded by a Capcom employee, and when the company was dissolved, the employees were absorbed into Capcom.
Thank you
Switch looks pretty based when docked, but the handheld is weak.
Excuse me but is that....BOOB ARMOR?
Looking at the artbook you can see they weren't very consistent in character design and their artists were just focused on making costume designs.
>How hard will it flop
Not at all if Nintendo markets it properly, and puts shit like
>"From the creators of the Xenoblade series"
In the trailers.
Top right is extremely cursed
Can't wait for this game to be unveiled and look nothing like this concept art. Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and XCX's concept art was way different from the main game.
Bottom right was pretty cool. I actually missed having cool armor in XC2, as that's the only game where you don't really have actual costumes. The weapons however, do change in terms of their designs.
The excuse for removing armor in XC2 is because Japanese fans complained that it ruined cutscenes
But that makes no sense since X had a system where your cosmetic armor could look different from your actual armor
The Japanese version of X only made cosmetic armor available after you beat the game.
I don't think it was removed from 2 because of that, though. It's a lot more likely that it wasn't included because they were already short on staff due to BOTW and developing the rare blades took up a lot of resources.
Why does the Capcom logo show up when you turn them on?
Actually, I read in an interview Takahashi actually wanted the characters to be easily recognizable in the environments and in battle, hence why they went with an all blue character, all red, all yellow, etc. Honestly it makes sense, and I like it that way. It has always been sensible game design.
I recall there was a feature discovered when cracking the game apart, that you were supposedly going to be able to control rare blades. Imagine running through Alrest as Kosmos..
This being Zelda would be interesting. You can already see some Monolith influence in BOTW, as Calamity Ganon looks something straight out of a Xeno game.
they're asking for the same thing on the next xenoblade project too, it's a template
Yeah, all the rare blades (plus Gramps, for some reason) have lines recorded that would only be used if they were the player character outside of battles. (stuff they'd say when falling off cliffs or opening chests, for example) The only ones you can actually hear in the main game are Dromarch's, since his are used when Nia's riding him.
There are also unused lines of all the rare blades basically introducing themselves to the specific driver you pulled them on. (Some of which are kind of cute, like Kassandra telling Zeke that she'll help him avoid misfortune, Theory saying that Turters looks cute, Obrona telling Nia that she 'knows those ears somehow', Finch getting everyone but Zeke's name wrong, and so on.)
they want to make it but rights are with namco. i don't know why nintendo doesn't buy it, I'm sure it's not too costly
>action game
>image looks like Daenerys
maybe George Martin is working with Monolith Soft.
I don't know, but the design and art is really really cool.
Seeing as the next game will be a direct sequel since BOTW ended on a cliffhanger, and the entire game was spent developing Zelda into a independent character, how do you feel about BOTW 2 having Zelda as your permanent companion like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite?
How would you feel about a LoZ game where we play as Zelda instead of Link and pic related is her?
No. Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite is one of the worst implementations of companion characters in video games. I'd much rather just play as Zelda herself.
really should take that artwork with a grain of salt.
people don't need another mood whiplash.
>WELCOME TO OUR BANQUET HALL
You say this like I wouldn't buy a Dark Souls game with a Zelda theme, weapons, bosses, etc.
It just looks so good though.
>BOTW ended on a cliffhanger
?
As long as it has its own unique gameplay instead of just being the same thing but with a model swap.
me too user
Your right, but if he meant sequel bait then he's right
Monolith's influence was 120% in Zora's domain for me. Everything, from the terrain geography to the architecture screams Monolith Soft. I bet they had carte blanche from Nintendo to design that area however they wanted.
>companion characters
FUCKING NORMIES GET OUT OF MY VIDEOGAMES
The new game will be in that style in tone though. It'll be Nintendo doing a more traditional fantasy game.
I wonder how much of that stuff would've made it into the game if they had all of their staff at the time.
Makes sense, it's one of the best areas in the game, too.
I did not know you work for Nintendo, show me your credentials.
Have we heard ANY info since it's announcement?
I was kinda hoping for a console at the very least before I dye from old age
No, and we weren't until Xenoblade 2 and all of its DLC were out the door. If we were gonna hear anything, this E3 would be the earliest.
I was talking about Atlu's project not Monolith's I'm not a big fan of their style but their games do seem to be kinda fun from short burst
What are you doing in this thread then? Get outta here.
Hopefully we get something about Re Fantasy too, but man Atlus has been like MIA for a while. I'm still waiting to hear a another peep about SMT5. Really fucking sick of hearing about Persona 5.
Pretty sure TGS this year is looking to be the most likely event they'll show anything for either Atlus or Monolith's new games. Hashino's not involved as the director for P5R nor does he want to do Persona for a while so I get the feeling he's focusing all his effort into Re;Fantasy at the moment with Studio 0.
I feel like this game will probably get delayed due to the PS5 still being in development. Then again, it shouldn't really be an issue since PS4 games are backwards compatible.
>Escaflowne organic mecha are great. Who was the mech designer?
Shoji Kawamori
what were they thinking?
>Whatever it is, I hope it's primarily a Monolith Soft game. Although, I don't think Takahashi has much influence in it's development. It's a shame too, because I wanted to see mechs in a fantasy setting. Think, Escaflowne.
My fantasy dream is Monolith Soft doing a mecha fantasy RPG game with mechs and character designs done by Five Star Stories Mamoru Nagano
It's on the recruitment page user...
I would rather have a new endless frontier.
When did everyone start dickriding Monolith Soft? All they do is make open world simulators. The environments are honestly empty as hell outside of the items, and enemies. They lack in terms of interaction and having more to do. That could be attributed to the fact that there's not a lot of emphasis on platforming or immersive ness in making exploration more fun, though.
because they are at the forefront of open world level design, despite lack of interactivity. The topography and landmark design is far superior to any other open world dev
>they are empty outside of not being empty
Xenoblade 1.
For a JRPG, their worlds are very interactive. Just being able to jump all around the place is remarkable in the genre.
I know but I'll believe it when I see it.
That's my wife
WHA T
Would Yea Forums cry SJW if you got to play as Zelda in the next Zelda game made by Monolith?
Part of me believes you would.
Yes. I feel like people forget that back in 2010, when XC1 launched, it was launched in the age of JRPGs mostly being hallway simulators. Something like XC1 with wide open areas to explore was mindblowing and a return to form for the genre.
And even in the modern day, with XCX and XC2 Monolith flaunts its world design. No one else designs worlds as awe-inspiring as they do. Mira is by far the most ambitious alien planet ever created and all the titans in XC2 are a wonder to walk around on. It makes the worlds of games like Breath of the Wild and Red Dead Redemption 2 and Witcher 3 look bland and boring in comparison.
I mean when you compare it to world designs of any other jRPG, it's night and day
__________deez nuts_______
Unironically, there was more to do in Breath of the Wild in comparison to XC2. 2 was more story based instead of exploration though, so it makes sense.
Now hold the phone right there. BotW is still the new standard for open world because it is insanely varied and interactive, while having an extremely well-designed layout. You can see the Monolith Soft cross-pollination there.
With that said, I think the Xenoblade series is one of the few RPGs left that feels like an epic adventure and doesn't leave me wanting an overworld, which is something that I feel like JRPGs as a whole have almost entirely done away with and I don't know why.
You got me all wrong. I actually like Breath of the Wild more than any of the Xenoblade games, and I fucking LOVE all three Xeno games. Breath of the Wild made me feel things I never thought I'd feel again. The sense of exploration in that game is completely unparalleled, and it makes XC2's implementation of Field Skills (which greatly hamper exploration) all the more tragic.
That said, you can at least agree with me that "A world where everyone lives on the backs of Titans" is a much, much more interesting take on a setting than "We did Hyrule for the 20th time". I really hope Breath of the Wild's sequel is like Majora's Mask and makes the setting completely different, even if it does reuse graphics. No Hyrule Castle, no Death Mountain, no Lost Woods, no Gerudo Desert. I want to be surprised. Akkala was an amazing example of this and my favorite area in the game.
BotW and RDR2 have content besides “hit the bad guy with big numbers”, though. BotW’s physics engine means the game works a sandbox and it rewards creative thinking. RDR2 has tons of flavour stuff like hunting, skinning, fishing, playing cards, finding weird things to put down in the journal etc.
MonoSoft in comparison are just old style RPGs with maps blown up a couple hundred times. Pretty, yes, but they’re just as shallow as something like Dragon Quest’s world that just exists to kill enemies in.
I love X but once the side quests are done the game is devoid of any life. BotW and RDR2 at least have things to do and play around with. Like an actual physics engine.
XCX still has a better open world FFXV, even if XCX is running on crappy hardware.
>better open world FFXV
not an achievement, although Mira is the best world in gaming IMO and easily top 5 from a non-bias view
Okay, that's fair. But I still think layout and design count towards "interesting." BotW has very varied and interesting topography to navigate. XC1 and XC2 weren't quite as interesting to traverse, even if they were a lot more interesting to look at. XCX stacks up a lot better in that regard, though.
But remember that FFXV probably had 10x the budget XCX had. Even if FFXV sold better, XCX probably did better in the margins. It also didn't kill morale at MonolithSoft.
They have Xenogears and Xenosaga under their belt which are generally considered some of the best traditional JRPGs of all time.
On top of that, the Xenoblade games are at the forefront of innovation and experimentation in modern JRPGs. X is unarguably the most technologically impressive JRPG ever made and Monolith's generally known for pushing hardware to their technical limits. Even though Xenoblade 2 didn't push the Switch as hard as X pushed the Wii U or 1 pushed the Wii, 2 is unironically still more content packed and still much larger than any other JRPG this gen.
People dickride Monolith because the other big players like Atlus or Enix hardly innovate, and Square went full JUST. This isn't to bash Enix since Dragon Quest 11 is my JRPG of the generation.
I wish Atlus and Monolith Soft did a collaboration. I'd truly enjoy an SMT game with an overworld on a similar scale to Xenoblade. Exploring the districts of Tokyo, or the Demon Realm (Expanse) in a fully 3D setting like that would be incredible. Even more so now, since the enemy encounters are on the overworld as data clusters.
I mean even most MonolithSoft dickriders acknowledge that XG and XS are extremely flawed and had too much in terms of scope. I kind of like how dialed back XC1 was in comparison to Takahashi's other stories. I do hope the next MonolithSoft tries to go as grand as possible though because they have 3 moderate success under their belt, so hopefully they feel a little more ambitious.
I think that hits the nail on the head. The three tier 1 JRPG developers that come to mind for me are Square-Enix, Atlus, and Monolith Soft. Which is really insane to think, because in the time that it took Square-Enix to develop FFXV, Monolith Soft released every single Xenoblade game. So they've quickly established themselves as my favorite reasonably funded JRPG developer, since Square-Enix has their heads up their butts and I've just disliked most of what Atlus puts out.
And no, Falcom isn't in that same budget range. I see you, Falcomfags.
All I want is a new endless frontier.
Atlus is pretty busy at the moment and given that TMS#FE didn't do amazingly in terms of game sales (I liked it enough), they probably don't want to collaborate with Nintendo any time soon. SMTV, P5R, and Project Re Fantasy are taking up their time, so let's hope that things go well enough for them.
Ys 8 is the only decent thing Falcom has released in a long long time. Cold Steel and Tokyo Xanadu are embarrassments.
TMS was more of a ISxAtlus project, though. I meant something more along the lines of Monolith Staff helping expand the overworld in the next mainline SMT game after V, or something along those lines.
It kind of amazes me that Falcom's still around since they've been running on a shoestring budget and have always felt like they were a generation or two behind since the mid-90s
Also
>long long time
Ys 8 game out in 2016, there's only a 4 year gap between that and previous last good game, Nayuta, in 2012.
All I want is you, user. Now get naked.
>I do hope the next MonolithSoft tries to go as grand as possible though because they have 3 moderate success under their belt, so hopefully they feel a little more ambitious.
I’d rather they focus on actually making complete games instead of dreaming up these big scenarios and making impressive concept art that ultimately doesn’t reflect the final product nor stack up well as an actual game. They have one moderate success under their belt, an HD tech demo and a game that showed Takahashi that people don’t want “scope” if it doesn’t work as an actual game. Nothing to get a big head about.
XC2 set the stage for Xenobullshit to come back in full force, so they could literally just do that again, with a publisher that probably won't fuck them over this time.
That would be neat, but that means it would have to be exclusive to Switch or something. I doubt Atlus would want to tie themselves down like that, but given P5R's apparent exclusivity, I guess I could be wrong.
I still want a game where Yoko Taro outlines major plotpoints and Takahashi fills it out.
As long as Monolith goes all out on XC3 & XCX3, I'll be content. Takahashi is getting pretty up in age, so I don't know what he'll be doing after Blade is over. I hope there's some sort of successor ready.. On another note, I hope his wife Soraya Saga, comes back as a writer. She was present a lot during Xenosaga's conception. Fuck Bamco, though.
I mean sure, but Nintendo seems like the publisher to let them do whatever they want. The Iwata Asks leads me to believe that they just want Takahashi in a good mindset to create something interesting. Like Iwata told him to name it Xeno-something.
Given the Japanese games market at the time, I could understand why Bamco was apprehensive to the idea of XS. Hopefully she writes for XCX2 or XC3.
I totally believe both are Switch games too.
Takahashi is fairly young when it comes to Japanese leads
I couldn't even imagine a Yoko Taro & Takahashi title. The scope and world of a Xeno game, with the plot and writing of a Drakengard or Nier title.. It would be, quite interesting to say the least. On the topic of Nier, I actually liked the world of Nier, and its sequel Automata quite a bit. I don't see people praising the world design too often, though.
They make one of the only jRPG series worth a shit, and finally something that isn't a boring corridor simulator stuck in the PS2 era. They're simply unmatched when it comes to crafting interesting worlds.
I know Soraya Saga isn't credited in the Xenoblades, but I like to believe that she and Takahashi still discuss and brainstorm story ideas casually since they're married; she does talk about the Xenoblades on twitter.
>Takahashi is 52 years old
>Soraya is 50 years old
Jesus Christ. I could have sworn they were in their late 50's.
Tarofags, no. Takahashi's a much more competent writer/director than Taro is ever going to be.
This is some quality discussion. I hope the thread stays alive until the bump limit, cause I'm at work atm.
The open world design in the Nier games is fairly empty, which makes sense thematically, but the world itself isn't interesting given that your fighting the same enemies over and over again. I like the worlds, but I don't like playing in them.
I meant mostly in terms of what the fuck twists and the lack of care for a normal plot. I think Taro is an interesting writer that just needs some refinement.
I like Takahashi too, but he's not infallible. He's even questioned his own writing ability in recent times, and wonders if he's fallen off in terms of his ability to create a quality plot. He's said as such himself in a relatively recent interview. I don't really consider myself a Tarofag either, since I don't consider the writing in his games "masterpieces" or anything, but they're pretty interesting.
He questioned his ability to create a quality plot shortly after the first Xenoblade released, if you read a lot of interviews from around that time period he actually seems frustrated that people praised Xenoblade's story, and even leading up to Xenoblade's release he tried to tell Xeno fans not to expect too much from a story perspective.
He seems a lot more confident and enthusiastic now about his writing than he did 8-12 years ago.

– Tetsuya Takahashi, Interview with Tetsuya Takahashi (Nintendo Power, 2012)
Takahashi seemed really shaken up by the critical acclaim that XB1 got, so he probably still feels conflicted that people want a fun game before a good story. He should write books if he wants to be a writer; games are much more apt for conveying worlds.
I think he was worried that his fans would be upset with XC1's more straightforward revenge plot. He was probably not super happy with it lacking a lot of the politics that he likes. XC2 showed that he still has it in him, but he didn't go all the way with it. Hopefully he tries to do something with a lot of moving parts like XG.
And I think Takahashi's got Taro's number when it comes to what-the-fuck twists that actually go somewhere and say something.
While I'm at it with incendiary statements, mommywives > dickgirls.
Taro has very interesting ideas, but I always find his messages muddled. I think the best thing he did was Nier, which does have a relatively straightforward plot and characters you can latch onto. Automata had a great setting but I didn't connect with the mostly barebones characters, and even though I really like the theme he was exploring, I didn't think he did a good job of conveying it to the player in the game's actual story. Drakengard's a big trainwreck where the cars all have tons of fireworks in them, so I think the stories are entertaining (even if the gameplay is cancer) but I don't get anything of substance out of it.
X2 is a far better game than Xenoblade.
>” [I’m] grateful for the game’s positive reputation, [but I and my team] didn’t set out to make Xenoblade Chronicles into the company’s magnum opus. It was made to be an experiment”
This is kind of depressing.
>we live in a world where Monolith soft opens up multiple new studios under a publisher that trusts them with one of their flagship IP's while still supporting their own original projects
Since we got Klaus back in XBC2 and Shulk Fiora as DLC, what are the odds of getting a Malos cameo and Rex & Pyra dlc in the next game?
Will we get Pyra in casual clothes and talking about her relationship with Rex? Shulk and Fiora are stated to be from post-game in XBC1.
>Nintendo didn't forget Monolith Soft when the opportunity to grab them under their wing arose
He was burned pretty bad back at Square and Bamco, so of course he would be a little apprehensive.
Well, they wanted buy Nameco back them. Nameco threw monolith to avoid this.
That's how a lot of classics were made.
Citizen Kane and Casablanca were made to try and get money together to do the "real" project afterwards.
>Xenogears gets gimped by Square and Takahashi's overambitious ideas
>Xenosaga gets gimped by poor planning and Namco rushing Takahashi
>Xenoblade 1 is described by Takahashi as "just an experiment" and "a basic shonen story", gets near universal praise anyways
>Xenoblade X is described as being an experiment in pushing the Wii U to its technical limits, they scrapped like 80% of the original script and ideas
>Xenoblade 2 is gimped by 70% of Monolith's team working on BoTW instead, but lays the seeds for potential Xenogears/saga connections in the future
Will Takahashi ever get a chance to make his true magnum opus?
As sad as it makes me, Malos isn't going to show up again.
Rex and/or Pyra have a pretty good chance of showing up in crossover content in future games, though.
Only when he finds the real zohar so he can create a world with no need for publishers
>interviews before release has him crying tears of joy having made the perfect game he always wanted to.
>it ends up being objectively a 5/10 game
Accidental success is almost always better than planned.
Rex and Pyra/Mythra are the only Xeno protagonists that haven't been drawn by Tanaka at some point. If they show up in the next game, they're going to be drawn by Tanaka.
>Malos isn't going to show up again.
But we never even heard what he told Jin!
There's humility and then there's getting fucked over for like a decade.
It's a funny turn of events, but I'm really happy for Takahashi, you know?
>Took his team with him and started Monolith Soft after Xenogears didn't blow up as intended with Square Enix
>Got gimped alongside his wife in the development of Xenosaga, which resulted in the series being cut short
>Finally has a stable grounding with Nintendo and the Xenoblade series is making moves for the better
Third time's the charm, gentlemen.
I'm blind? Where is the hylian crest?
Predict the Metascore for next year's 3D Zelda
> Ocarina of Time (99)
> Majora's Mask (95)
> The Wind Waker (96)
> Twilight Princess (96)
> Skyward Sword (93)
> Breath of the Wild (97)
> Breath of the Wild 2 (?)
Takahashi is a model of perseverance. I admire that.
Nevermind a fun game, what Xenoblade really should've taught him is that people want a FINISHED game above all else.
E3 soon
In retrospect, episode 1 Shion was the best Xeno character
Yeah, artists own perception of their work is often warped. Takahashi wants to write epic space operas spanning centuries but doesn’t have the patience or planning on how to actually execute it, then gets upset people prefer a solid shonen romp through the body is a giant man.
>Not Rex and Pyra/Mythra
>Not Jin and Lora
I kind of wish Lora was done in Nomura's style in all honesty.
Getting kicked in the nuts for basically forever does that to you.
You do realize that Xenoblade is still following his Perfect Works formula, right? It feels like he got to tell the story he wanted to in XC2 anyway. Let's not forget about Torna as well. If he can pump out a game, and make mini games like Torna to flesh things out even further, I'll be completely fine with it. I just hope the next set of titles are given the proper development time. That's why I'm a little hesitant of people saying, "we'll get something this E3!". It feels too early.
I still think we're seeing what we want to see rather than what's actually there but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
>Breath of the Wild 2
>Implying it's not going to be called Breath of the Triforce
Soon.. It's ironic now that I think about it. The Triforce, and Zohar are somewhat similar.
I like that BOTW gave you a full suit of metal armor, but I felt it was lacking somehow.
If Link had Elite Knight armor, my dick would split open from having too much blood inside of it, especially if you could dye the tunic over it.
I heard nothing but praise about Torna but watching Lora die in the most anticlimactic way possible in Xeno2 put me off getting that game, is it really worth it?
Use your imagination!
>Soon.. It's ironic now that I think about it. The Triforce, and Zohar are somewhat similar.
You're a bit late to the thinking gentlemen's party, user. But we'll accept you, you reached enlightenment.
>that blatant Godess Hylia statue
How were we so dumb to miss this bros.
I don't think the fantasy game is Takahashi but rather Koh Kojima.
>From Software is about to make an open world, Norse Mythology game
Off topic, but I'm excited. What would happen if Monolith and From Soft worked together to make one massive game? Would it be the JRPG of the century?
Koh directed all the Xenoblade games that Takahashi produced, though. He’d be working with Takahashi if anything.
Oh fuck, now I see it and I'm fucking hyped, but maybe it's just similar... hopefully we see more on E3.
The gameplay's an objective improvement and it's really good for expanding on the world building of Xenoblade 2, but the story adds nothing important that we already didn't know from the main game.
From a story/writing perspective I'd consider it the worst Xeno game, the way it handles some of its characters is atrocious (Amalthus comes off as dickish for the sake of being evil, unlike in the main game where he's acting dickish because he has a moralfag complex)
From can barely make corridor games work.
The entire ending of Torna was honestly kind of anticlimactic, for me, anywho. Fighting Lora's dad, the quick invasion, the overall way it ended, it was just kind of meh. Even still though, Torna was based. I wish Mor Ardain and Temperantia were in the game instead of Gormott, though.
Takahashi hasn't produced any of the Xenoblade games, he's always executive director/scenario writer.
YAAAAASSSS
Did you play Sekiro? I feel like it was a nice step forward, from BB anyway.
I liked how Torna handled Mythra and Malos, but that was about it.
Amalthus's characterization was real shitty.
I never liked those games, and they're as far of the J in JRPG as I can think of
No.
Really?
Man, I don't even know anymore. Sort of want.
I guess I might pick it up if ever need to burn some time before some game release, I'm up for better gameplay and I'll probably care less about the plot later.
Sekiro still kinda felt like a corridor to me.
DS games are extremely Japanese in design, though
I don't know, but it sure looks like yokoyama'a style, so I'm pretty excited if he's the concept artist for a game.
Still corridor ish. And the reason the game don't run like ass is because actionvision.
You seem to forget one important fact:
"It's ok when Japan does it"
the important fact is "why" females are pushed in such and such games.
In japan, it tends to be for fanservice, fan requests, because the character is well liked.
In western game, it sometimes is to push a stupid political agenda.
Yea Forums would still cry SJW. But who really cares.
People seem to forget the days before SJW's where we would make jokes about how Zelda/Peach still aren't playable.
How so? There was a lot of interaction with the environment, and exploration available to boot. It's anything but a corridor.
You had more vertical movement, but the levels themselves usually only gave you one way to traverse them. Something like the Fountainhead looks big and open, but when you actually have to go through it, you take this linear path around the central lake going through buildings and hallways.
Also I don't find grapple points and ledges to be "a lot of interaction with the environment."
Linkle soon.
>(OP)
>An E3 reveal.
>Remember that at this point in time of its system life, the PS4 hadn't even received Bloodborne yet.
what? your sentence makes no sense
Hope you're the kind of person who does sidequests immediately.
I don't even care about the why, so long as they're cute. West doesn't like cute anymore.
Half? XC2 was literally made on a team of 40 people while the rest were helping out with BotW
What he means, is that they've expanded. Nintendo gave them another studio since XC2 performed so well, on top of their overall performance being great.
It's a corridor with some large rooms and branching corridors, but it's still mostly corridors. There are places you can go in Sekiro, and places you think you can go where the game glitches out and you fall down into a pit to your death.
In comparison, Xenoblade games let you go pretty much anywhere. Even pits lead to new unrelated areas.
That's the difference between corridors and open world.
Would you consider the Blade series, open world? Compared to BotW, there's a lot more boundaries. The overall areas feel more contained as well, outside of X anywho.
Open world is a bit of a stretch. It's certainly an exploration game with an emphasis on large areas, but it has a very scripted sequence of events, and you can't explore titans outside of that order.
It's not open world. The world is very expansive, so the sheer exploration gives you that feeling, but it's not a meme world game.
I'd like to play as Genderbent Ganondorf
why, my peenus weanus of course :)
hahah! :D
it's my weeeeeenus peanus! :) hahah
Who is this - my answer is, of course, my peanus weenus :D
hahaha
X is, but 1 and 2 aren't.
Where I can get a 1080p version of this?
Rex looks so damn stupid when put alongside the other protagonists. Making him a teenager was a mistake.
So.. If Xenoblade is an experiment, what's his true end goal? XC2 seemed to be back to form, and really reminiscent of his older work, Xenogears.
He needs to get taller.
