>plot bullshit forces the MC to forget everything that happened in the route

Also the gameplay is pure shit and consists of wandering around until someone appears somewhere to progress the plot
Add all of this to the lack of a backlog, a saving function and a decent skip function and I don't know how anyone can call this anything other than "ok"

I'm playing Majikoi S after playing the original and doing the After routes for the main heroines. They are very short and most of it is just porn, are other routes better and more like the original? I don't mind porn but I don't find Majikoi art that appealing and I'd rather have more of the Kazama family interactions.

The game is very much about the characters, it pulls you in with suspense but the author clearly wanted the story to be about the people stuck in LABO most of all, and I'd say it succeeded at making a very nice ending by focusing on that with the scifie elements.

I think the core concept was alright, if a bit basic. It just bogged itself down with far too much psuedoscience and felt like Nakazawa wanted to talk more about wikipedia articles on philosophy than the actual story. Granted most of Uchi/Naka's shit leans that way, but he really went balls to the wall on I/O.

I couldn't bring myself to finish the afterstories though, the story had wrapped up and they felt really superfluous.

Finished up Nekopara 3 a while back. Currently going through Yu-No. It's pretty good. Might pick up the remake when it gets localised.

The extra routes in Noah give the latter half some context. It's still retarded but at least you get some good scenes/endings.

No, they were slavers. The slaves were relegated to being chained in the lower deck of the ship, which is why they drowned. I played the remake not so long ago so my memory is fresh on this.
Then again the translation for the original Utawarerumono is really, REALLY bad. I'd recommend just going into 2 and 3 blind as you wait for the 1 remake to come out in English, those two games by themselves do a good enough job of setting up the world and plot points even if 3 does make a whole fucking lot of callbacks to the original, it's not necessary to have played it.

What I advise you to do however is go to tss.asenheim.org (or .com? whatever) and read DESIRE (it's a web port of sorts of the official Win98 revision of the game) off of it. First, that game is a sort of a blueprint for Yu-No - but incomparably more condensed. Second, the translation is very obviously of a highly liberal kind, and MY GOD MY DICK IS DIAMONDS DOES THIS TRANSLATION CARRY PIGGYBACKY THE ENTIRE VN ON. Like, the pure joy of just fucking around and read genuinely sensible descriptions and genuinely hysterical jokes, the lovely (completely redrawn from original PC98 monstrocities) graphics, not to mention you can actually groove to PC98 version's music instead of listening to shitty midis you were stuck with in actual Win98 version. Boys I just finished World End Economica Chapter One. That was one hell of a twist. In retrospect one could see it coming, but it still made me spit out my drink watered down gin.
The characters in this one are really good, and I love the utopic yet cutthroat environment.
Barton literally does nothing wrong in meeting with a prospective future trader and giving him insider info. Its Hal's fault he interpreted MAKE IT RAIN to mean something else. Hagana also does nothing wrong. She's basically a bttered wife. The two antagonists are Lisa and Hal, Lisa for making kids pay her own debt and Hal for stringing people like Barton and Hagana along while not having the foresight to fulfill his plans effectively. Hao got what he deserved.

That quite possibly the actual point of (and by far the most sensible sequence of scenes in) Root Double happens 40 percent in, and the rest is glorified graphomania.

It's a good thing you kept on learning. VNs are always best in their original language, I'm currently replaying the entire franchise in Japanese because of this.
1700 words really is nothing, though. I recommend you start reading ASAP too, even just dumb moege or nukige at first to get your feet wet.

It basically delves into what was going on with law enforcement during/after what happened in hinamizawa. You're in the point of views of mainly a coworker of akasaka and akasaka's daughter. There's a ton of content.

Nakazawa's problem is that he always wants to make every character "equal" and explain them ad infinitum; see Root Double as the peak example of this. I/O was him coming off of being cucked out of his Remember11 finale and wanting to put all his ideas in a single VN, resulting in a crazed idea salad, but Root Double is how he normally wants to do things. You can tell from the enneagram motif just how much he wanted to make every character balanced against others instead of just making them what they were.

Uchikoshi's problem is that he's an absolute fucking madman who values twists and shock value too much over actual quality of content.

It's so many - actually - that perhaps I missed something important. I have all the scene pages fully filled out save for some large empty sections on two pages, and I'm only missing one ero scene. Since Mamiya's route has the most options in general, I think it's probably in there.

Uh. In the original Root Double almost all the scenes from Xtend Route were actually a second pass on memories in route D originally. That second pass occured from what I get, while you were deciding in the computer room, which three characters get left behind, and was like 10 hours long or something. Or maybe more. Judging from Xtend, more like 20. It was mandatory for getting Grand Ending. Point is, it was conducted by Natsuhiko, so there were no "his" scenes there.
There was an outcry and much swearing among those who had the indescribable pleasure to play the original edition of the game in Japan.
Therefore, for the PS3 revision, the script was modified. The second pass was somewhat expanded and became its own route. Xtend route, that is. Contect is, the escape is over, all the guys are in a helicopter, you are not Natsuhiko, you are Mr.Spirit, and you get a chance to sort of resolve some difficulties these characters still have with their lives as a farewell to them. Now, since it's not Nasuhiko who is doing the digging, he also gets read, so there are Natsuhiko scenes, all of them new, written specifically for this Xtend edition of the vn. All of the except for the last one are completely fanfic-tier however. The last one though is, as I've said, Nagisa or rather how Mr.Spirit imagines who Nagisa was talking to Mr.Spirit saying basically that
route D wasn't about characters themselves. Route D was about how some characters imagined some other characters being - and how those IMAGES THEMSELVES changed as a consequence of tgese characters interacting between themselves and familiarizing themselves with themselves. Basically, how the way one character imagined other character being changed constantly due to getting personal experience of communicating with that other character. With the player himself being no exception.

I did like R11 the most out of what I've seen from them, even if it clearly could have used more refinement in its execution.
E17 on the other hand, I can't really say is much better than the rest of what I've read from them. The pacing is absolute garbage and the payoff was based entirely on its singular twist, which fell flat for me. Just raise a perfect copy of yourself lmao BW revives a dead person by yelling at them, even if virus shenanagins were potentially at play this means BW wasn't even needed in the first place The initial slog hardly feels worthwhile in the end.

correction: it's mostly the point of view of akasaka's coworker and there are a couple chapters of the perspective of a girl in the kimiyoshi family. I think one chapter might've been akasaka's daughter's perspective. But it's definitely worth reading if you're a fan and want more content.

There are 2 alternative endings (during Mamiya's and Zakuro's chapters) and 3 main endings (the last one being EndSky2), there's nothing more.
The whole VN is great for rereading because there's lots of foreshadowing and you understand what it was trying to say better this time around.

See, I lucked out. I read Ever17 exactly the way it was meant to be read: after SUFFERING MY GOD WHYYYYYY? through Never7 (including BOTH of its "true" routes).
Ever17 depends on it (and knowing basic history behind Never7's creation) HEAVILY - and it is HEAVILY meta and depending upon the player having very particular - and quite justified - "preconceptions" about Uchikoshi and his writing style. The ACTUAL core twist (not the BW one, the "meta" one, involving the player and his, let's say "reading style") is incredibly beautiful and is by far the smartest thing Uchikoshi has evidently ever conceived.

See, there were basically two versions of Never7. The first one was called Infinity. It consisted of four basic girls' routes and ended up with """joke""" ending route. See, it wasn't really a joke. It was an actual resolution of the VN. What was Infinity, basically? A romance novel, without porn, but with sci-fi. Sci-fi was its main selling point, its gimmick, its gist. The actual ending route, in addition to being horribad, made it perfectly clear, that everything sci-fi related in the VN was simply attentionwhoring on Uchikoshi's part, a bunch of red herrings, covering up for a trivial and shittily written (barring Nakazawa-written Yuka route, which was at least tolerable) VN.
Point is, it must've been, this point, that he fucked up in a major way, started to become evident to Uchikoshi himself.
So, some time later, a Neo-Geo complimentary game, called Infinity CURE, was issued, containing two more routes: Nakazawa's and Uchikoshi's. Nakazawa's, Yuka CURE was a retelling of his Yuka's route from Yuka's perspective (germs of RD's routeD?). Uchikoshi's route,Izumi CURE, however was the actual point of this Infinity CURE game, and was a completely new ending route, having nothing whatsoever in common with the old ending route, and in which the sci-fi tidbits from the early routes were actually relevant and important. It was not a bad stry in itself at all, it was actually quite good, I thought. Problem is, at that moment it was obvious that it was effectively a fanfic - or a retcon of sort - in that NONE of the sci-fi glitter in the main portion of the VN was written with the events of this nu-route in mind. Later, all of these 7 routes were collected into a second revision of Infinity, called Never7, and the original true route got relegated to the joke status, with Izumi CURE officially supplanting it.(cont)

In terms of an adaptation it's definitely not bad. I'd still say to play the VN regardless but the adaptation is ok, at least for now. Watch it if you want.

I hope we get another VN that's I/O or 25th Ward levels of overcomplicated, but I want it to be even MORE ridiculous and even longer with Remember11 levels of audience demand. Like 100+ hours long and full on untamed weirdness.

So, essentially, Never7 = Infinity + Izumi CURE.

Now, the point of how Ever17 is structured is very simple.

Commin routes of Ever17 deliberately imitate Infinity, while Coco Route is a counterpart to (as well as a partial devrlopment of some of the scenes from) Izumi CURE. There is a crucial difference however. Izumi CURE differs from Coco Route in that common routes of Never7 were NOT written with Izumi CURE in mind, while common routes of Ever17 WERE written with Coco's Route in mind.

In short, Ever17 is a rematch.

While I didn't like the execution of the answer arcs I honestly liked the fact that the ending was really happy despite the events in the VN being fucking tragic. It was a lot more sweet than bitter which surprised me.

Now as to how tmEver17 is meant to work.
Someone having suffered through Never7 starts reading Ever17, quickly recognizes OH NO NOT TGIS SHIT AGAIN WHHHHHHHHYYHHHHYYYYYYYYYYY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF. In other words, starts thinking it's another Infinity. Written PRESUMABLY by a complete worthless hack who doesn't know what he is doing. No, all those oddities are simply attentionwhoring and his incompetence, they clearly don't mean jack shit. Bla-bla. Bla-bla-bla-whatever-bla.

In other words, by a deliberately set up similarity between common routes of Ever17 and common routes of Never7 Uchikoshi baits the reader to stopbpaying attention and to miss clues to the mysteries thecrwader could've solved all along by himself. In other words, the core realization in Coco's Route is that of something getting solved using a hint you clearly remember previously READING or rather skimming past - but also clearly remember not imparting any significance whatsoever onto, interpreting it as a hack writer shitting the bed.

THIS is the core Ever17's twist. Lulling the reader into "yeah, yeah, whatever" mode, then pulling the rug under reader's feet, repeatedly, in a very quick succession - making it perfectly clear that "yeah, yeah, whatever" was ACTUALLY author's real intention all along.

It is really bitter though if you give it even a second of thought. The ending is basically battler/ange coping.

I'm not complaining because the protagonist does some questionable things. It's just that he doesn't even feel human to me, it's like he feels nothing (besides being horny all the time). He treats the other characters like they're meaningless garbage.
I don't care about "relating" to a character or other faggy shit like that, but I don't even recognize his thought processes as human. He's completely disgusting and makes me angry.
Then again, I didn't finish the game so idk how everything plays out. The story seemed interesting but I wished I could burn the MC to death whenever I was reading it. I very rarely drop a game/show/book/whatever but this was just too much for me. Never again.

The others heroines aren't as fun and don't mesh very well with the protagonist. It also really helps that Renna has a circle of friends that help keep the story alive and, most of all, she has the best chemistry with the mc by a very wide margin.

And it has the best delinquent ''theme'' of the lot, it actually keeps with the general feeling of youth established in the short common route.
