cutscenes in games are great imo, it's when they're desperately trying to pretend they aren't cutscenes is when I have a problem. Basically what half-life does or what western games love doing with that walkie talkie shit.

It's when they try to make gameplay "cinematic" when things get shitty. Overly scripted gameplay scenarios, forced walking segments, quick time events, etc. You're right that's shit, but keeping it to cutscenes is fine as long as you can skip them.

Video games are a hobby for stupid people, so it's rare for any fanbase to understand the intricacies of a plot or character interactiin. You could probably devise a formula for how good a character is based on how much screen time they spend whining. Tidus would be super shit according to that formula. Lightning and Noctis are bland but they don't bitch and moan or say dumb shit constantly.
Tidus probably has more crying screentime than most of the rest of the games combined.

The voice acting is godawful, particularly Yuna's laugh. Even in context, it's tough to watch unless you're a weeb desensitized to that sort of thing.

Now I remeber how annoyingly slow and claustrophobic FF X was.

Really? I replayed it recently, as in last week, and I was surprised at how fast the story and game in general went. There's pretty much no meandering around or getting caught up in random side stuff like in most other RPGs. After Luca the party pretty much stays on a straight line to their goal without getting distracted at all and I don't remember any scenes dragging on particularly long. I clocked in at 20 hours by the time I reached Zanarkand where about only 20% of the game is left at that point. It shocked the hell out of me because I remembered it being way longer and more drawn out back when I played it on PS2.

I mean the dialogues mostly. The loading times between the sound files also created weird pauses etc. I hated it. Felt like a beta version.

FFX is a terrible game and indicative of where Final Fantasy and Squeenix went completely off the god damned rails.

The game was and still is a technical marvel.
Its only real fault is not being able to skip cutscenes.

Most FF protags go through as much or more hardship and do it without being total fucking pussies about it. FFX had very few likable characters, and the likable ones got the least screentime.

Nah, I loved FFX and I found it insanely cringe inducing when I played at release. It didn't help my dad walked in on this scene.
