I really cant choose one over the other, every game is better than the other in some way and worse in another

Everyone will say 3 is the worst.

In fact it's actually the best. There's nothing in the other games that even comes close to Valhalla or Sky City in terms of game design, gameplay, atmosphere and also horror elements.

I kinda hope Prime 4 has those horror elements back in spades. My favorite areas in the Prime games and the ones that always felt the most "Metroid" like were also the most moody with the thickest horror atmosphere.

Like half of Prime 1 feels like a mix between Zelda and Turok. I want weird alien landscapes and underworlds and a generally creepy and oppressive atmosphere.

They are all good.
Prime 1 was a revelation. It's basically Super Metroid 3D done right. The only flaw that I can think of is that some of the environments can feel a little bit generic.
Prime 2 is an excellent sequel with more original environments and a well implemented light world-dark world mechanic.
Prime 3 is underrated imo. The environments are absolutely great, probably the best in all 3 games and the new Wii controls are amazing. It's also the best looking Prime game because of the Wii's extra power.
I've replayed them recently and honestly can't decide which one is the best.

I felt the biggest flaw in the translation to 3D was it failed to capture how agile Samus was.

MP1 no contest because you can missile spam.
MP2 has too much recycled content, bland levels and BEAM AMMO, and MP3 just feels like Halo with some puzzles.

the answer is, all 3 are eternally mutilated by being tied to a handheld controller, and will never reach their potential until they are completely redesigned with a mouse interface in mind
