Lillie feels like the sort of character that would be great in a Pokemon OVA or movie all about her and cosmog. As a sort of fish-out-of-water self insert but in a game where she's just a side character that's absent most of the time it comes out really shallow. They could have double downed and made her a permanent companion or something, having her slowly acquire more Pokemon and aid you in double battles but we know GF are too retarded to implement new ideas into their only successful franchise. Too reiterate, everything about SunMoon setting and story would work much better in a feature length film and that's a giant red flag since they're game developers not movie directors.

That was the whole point, she can't fight. The three pivotal parts are just the absolute most basic parts of a character, namely the establishment (introduction), the climax/big change for her (ponytail shit), and culminating with the payoff (standing up to Lusamine). She almost doesn't even belong in a Pokemon game, but I digress, I was simply meaning it's not her front and center stageplay and it's still the player character doing everything that actually matters. She simply stands in as the reason for every typical errand or disaster of other Pokemon games that moves you. The XY rival wasn't that bad honestly and I believe the real flaw with XY's plot was the extremely shitty villain and the ineffectual nature of the 3 "side" friends. N was better written but as I said in a different post he was vastly overshadowed by how memorable Ghetsis was. As a side note, I do prefer the rest of the cast in Gen 7 as opposed to the Gym leaders in other gens.
Overall yeah, I do believe the cutscenes should have had a "press start to skip" bit like any sensible JRPG, but eh.

This is about more than just her role in the games though. Compare AC related fan works prior to NL and now. Everyone had their favorite, and almost every one of the main cast of special NPCs got a pretty equal amount of love. Nowadays all I ever see is Isabelle, just one character, and that's it. Smash has only made things worse. You don't see this happening to other franchises with similarly-sized casts like Mario or Sonic. Even though they have their main characters, their huge casts get lots of love too. AC used to be all about its huge cast but now everyone's been shoved aside for Isabelle.

And let's talk about her mascot status. Prior to her existence, AC didn't really have a definitive mascot type character. Nook was the most iconic and recognizable, but Nintendo never acknowledged this and he was never shoved in your face. K.K. was prominent in advertising and such, but it never went beyond that. Resetti was also iconic but he's the last character anyone would pick to represent AC.

To put things into perspective, Isabelle was promoted to THE series mascot no less than two years after her initial debut. She has appeared in three crossovers as the representative of AC as a whole.

If you don't think that has any implications for the next game at all then you're delusional. Nintendo knows people love Isabelle, and I'm assuming they also know how Isabellefags make up a huge chunk of the fanbase now, and how they will throw a fit whenever she's taken away for as much as a second as seen when Zipper "took over" the AC Twitter for a week.

Isabelle hasn't quite ruined the mainline games... Yet. But she sure as fuck left the fanbase in shambles. Not to mention she took your town's villagers'/Rover's job of getting the player ready in New Leaf for the sake of making her omnipresent, so that's one thing you can count against her.

For me, the Pokemon are the gameplay. If a Pokemon game has a selection I don't like, I can't bring myself to enjoy it even if the gameplay is superior overall in the grand scheme of it (Even numbered gens tend to disappoint me more purely in terms of designs, which isn't to say they're bad but rather there's fewer I latch onto).
Pokemon games aren't terribly exceptional as far as JRPGs go in any department but music, so the Pokemon themselves really are key for me, because there's many other JRPG series that I enjoy with much better gameplay, but no Pokemon.

It tends to be centred around his upbringing as the reason why. I noticed the same flaw with how Lysandre went on about how people abuse Pokemon or make them do terrible things that he doesn't consider beautiful, but the whole region is one of the friendliest, most harmonious regions in the whole series with almost no conflict or even minor arguments to speak of. Almost every conflict is rooted in his own organization.
Lillie actually went there because she didn't think her mother was safe there and no longer feared her (plus she had the mascot legend backing her up). She was attempting to force her to come back, not just to tell her to go fuck herself. I think it was a suitable conclusion (better than USUM's by a bit in writing, but vastly inferior in gameplay) but overall it was more of her concern for family than her desire to stand up and tell her mom to stop being a cunt.

I love the art for PQ2. Probably never touching P5 and I know jack shit about this character but the shark teeth and glasses already make her good in my book.

Can we agree that the main plot pokemon writers are brain dead? Most of the obscure sub quests in the games are amazing because they actually use the pokemon's symbolic value as part of the story they tell.
Some that easily come to mind are the ghost marowak and missing girl in the forest quests from firered/leafgreen, the cursed school, eeveelution trainers and mimikyu quests from sun/moon, Silver's pokemon evolving through friendship as he progresses through the story.

Lillie did want to go and get her mother back (because Lillie is a good person and not an asshole like her mom), but telling Lusamine to go fuck herself was an important part of it, because Lillie was finally standing up for herself and confronting her problems instead of running away.

That wasn't why she went though. It was a key part of concluding her character development but her reason for going was to rescue Lusamine, not to tell her what for. It had to happen there because Lusamine had just portaled her way out before that and afterwards she was in a coma.
USUM did not turn Lusamine into a good guy in any way. Every action she took was villainous and even the "saving people from Necrozma" shit was done for her own personal edification and not only fucked over the URS that had helped her but also everyone else by releasing the beast from Megalo Tower. The only misunderstood character was Necrozma itself, because it was only attacking and devouring light due to the pain caused by the injury it has.

I do agree pokemon works best when its focusing on smaller stories instead of the fucking armageddon of legendaries for the fifth time. The only thing that can save this franchise is for either nintendo to take development away from GF or for them to hire a good director for once, none of these will probably ever happen.

They should have included a skip button for all the Pokemon players who despise JRPGs but overall the only big issue with the scenes is that they're poorly spaced and many of the shorter ones could be condensed into a single larger scene.

Outside of Ultra Space, the game was oddly relaxed and lower key. Very little actual crime, and even the box legendaries were shown to be domesticated animals that were used as mounts by other societies, the only thing legendary was their actual legends and folktales of the region. I wonder if SnS will go back to the Life and Death, Divine Embodiments of Spacetime style that they did before.

I think it's odd that people dislike N and like Lillie, some of my favorites are 5 and 7 (although again, Ghetsis made a stronger impression than N to me, partially BECAUSE of his involvement with N, although I like N, and his theme is great).
