Best ending would be setting up the final fight between Jon and NK, long bloody campaign with people continuously retreating, everyone dying. Jon learns of the prophesy, kills Dani for the magic sword, and fails, dying in the process.
Everyone’s hopes are dashed, but if you’ve been paying attention, Bran can affect the past. So he wargs back in time, in a last ditch attempt to save the future and prevent everyone from dying, like way back, to prevent the Children of the forest from making the NK. He fails, so he opts for the next best thing, creating a powerful magic barrier in the north that keeps the WW out. As the years go by, people build and Ice Wall over it, and Bran becomes the Three Eyed Raven. That’s when you realize that the whole series is locked in a perpetual time loop, with a tragic ending, and that Brandon Stark was Bran the Builder. Moral of the story being “don’t waste your time on petty politics when the survival of the race is at hand.
Brilliant, Cathartic, and Thematically resonant. Plus, with a longer campaign against the NK, you have the chance to finish off character arcs, while slowly building the sense of dread.
THATS a deconstructions of the fantasy genre, and THATS how you correctly subvert expectations. Much better than muh mad queen, or Batman Arya.
Jon killing Dani in this scenario carries way more weight as she’s a good person, and he’s forced to make a choice, the love of your life, or all of humanity, and it’s STILL not enough.

They start developing games as soon as possible with only a vague outline and they always keep the plot vague, open-ended, and flexible so they can shuffle and recycle the assets around and squeeze as much as they can to make a complete game by deadline. That’s how a relatively small AA game company can deliver AAA quality game with such level of polish and amount of content in fairly reasonable dev cycle.
