it just wasn't the Zelda killer. it is a competent RPG in terms of its storytelling, but the combat and dungeons are repetitive and arguably uninspired. This keeps it from being a great game. On the plus side, it's got two side activities (fishing and spheda) which help expound the gameplay and the title's overall charm is udeniable. Spheda.

I honestly don't think this past gen has been bad for fighting games.
KI was fantastic, Pokken was fantastic (though barely anybody played it because nintendo foolishly marketed it as if it was an arena fighter), Tekken 7's pretty good, arc sys games aren't my thing but i've heard good stuff about xrd and even crosstag, etc.
The only real huge misteps were SFV and Marvel infinite.

Town building could have been epic but you were capped at a fairly low number of total components per area and between that and the various pre-set conditions you had to fulfill it really limited your options. I tried to go nuts on the beach area and make a giant pier with a multi-level boardwalk until I realized I would couldn't even place enough blocks to make half of it.
That, the monotonous as fuck procedurally generated dungeons and the pointlessness of monster transformations were the things I didn't like but all in all it was a great game with some really fun sidequests.

Well yeah, but I'm just saying, they ported pretty much EVERYTHING from PS2 to PS3. God of War, Resident Evil, Prince of Persia, Sly Cooper, San Andreas, MGS 2 and 3...not unreasonable to think they'd have done one more instead of skipping a gen.
