DS Lite
Hacked N3ds. You can put in roms of GBA and Snes games. Game slot of DS flashcart.
Clicky buttons > Mushy buttons
As far as hardware design goes, I fucking loved the GBA SP. It was one of the few handhelds that acutally fit in your pocket, and was such a colossal step up from any Game Boy at the time. GBA library was just alright though.
gameboy advance
I hate playing 2D games on the 3DS because of the dpad position. Far comfier on the DS or GBA
I find the 3DS uncomfy all around to be honest
>playing Sonic Rush
Based and Jeh Jeh-Pilled.
DS. No question about it. Maximum comfy.
I'm sure I've told this story enough times on Yea Forums, but dammit if I'm still not mad nearly 15 years later. I know a guy that traded in his DS for a Micro, then proceeded to use it solely as an MP3 player.
fpbp
DS for sure. Got great games and I got great memories with it
Depends on how you feel about custom firmware and pirating/emulating I guess.
If you're ok with those then either the 3DS or the Vita probably.
If not then I dunno. PSP is a personal favorite of mine but partly just because I thought it was amazing that it had an internet browser on it and that I could store music on it. Was before smartphones were as big as they are now so I guess those reasons are kind of invalid these days.
3DS can play DS and GBA games, so 3DS.
GBA micro was kino, I still have mine
I've actually never met anyone else who had one
3DS also has a shitty screen, poorly placed dpad and a top heavy screen that makes it less comfy to hold than the DS. And the resolution difference makes DS games look like shit. You can run them at native res but then it's small as fuck and there's gigantic black borders
I prefer the quiet of the mushy buttons but prefer the positivity of clicky
DSi
Game Boy Pocket
3DS can't play GBA games. It can only play a handful of roms from that "ambassador" program
>sonic rush
Damn, where did Pokémon go so wrong from here forward?
Op, to answer, all of them handhelds are amazing.
You idiot. People inject gba games all the time. The entire library is available
Gba sp is not clicky
And none are anywhere near as clicky as joycons are
cfw switch
The 3DS has a 100% backwards compatible copy of the GBA hardware inside it. It can play GBA games
ds lite is shit compared to ds phat tho
>that dpad
>that weight
>that piss poor battery life
>can't fit in pocket
no
Aren't you thinking of the normal DS?
It fits once you remove the joycons
The DS also has a 100% backward compatible copy of the GBA hardware inside it. And said hardware can be used in parallel with the DS's hardware for DS games. Naturally for DS backwards compatibility the 3DS must have this GBA hardware as well
the "dpad" is actually pretty damn good. Not even joking
What do you wear? Cargo shorts?
No it fucking can't unless you're slightly overweight and wearing cargo shorts
Game boy advance SP
Thread over
>The DS also has a 100% backward compatible copy of the GBA
You need to buy a $40 flashcart just to play GBA games on a DS these days. Might as well just emulate on your phone.
It's really not. Dpads are meant to be rocked by their central pivot.
no need to justify your (wrong) preference. 3DS is objectively superior.
>threading yourself
You are right but never do that again.
>GBA micro
I forget this thing exists at least once a year...I should buy one for my old GBC games
PSP has most of my favorite ports, though DS has some good titles, too, plus it plays two different types of games, which is a great feature.
What? I could whip out my DS and Emerald right now for a play.
Though I mostly use my GC Gameboy Player when I want to play GBA games, these days.
enjoy your broken hinges and wear down buttons.
Ps vita
Should I get a Game Gear? Really want to get one but seems kinda pointless.
The worst thing about buying a used DS is cleaning/replacing the shoulder buttons. Those are usually the buttons that fail the most.
I had one. It sucked.
i actually have all those, OG 2ds is NOT clicky
>Gba sp is not clicky
i had one, and the buttons were clicky.
>You will never be carefree enough to be able to spend a cold, rainy autumn morning playing Animal Crossing on the DS under the bedsheets
I miss the DS Phat D-Pad.
Which Pokemon is this?
I haven't played any games in the series in years but this looks really nice.
DSLite since it had compatibility with all the old game boy games. That thing was great.
>digital buttons>analog buttons
I think not
How badly? It's not just Master System ports, is it? Because I have a RetroPie for that.
I have mine beside me right now and they're pretty mushy
How worth it is it to grab a DS Lite? I pretty much just wanna play Pokemon, and as for the first Gameboy titles, i figure I'll just play the remakes.
>GBA micro
>playing GBC games
Heart Gold/Soul Silver
Frick, it doesn't? I figured it would since it's a GBA.
Guess I stick to my SP
I carry it in my backpack. Besides that, I do have gba micro, psp go, ds lite, og purple 3ds, n3ds xl and a vita. The switch will lowly become my fave through cfw
I'm fuckin 160lbs and I fit the switch in my jeans pocket
Get real pants fag
It's nice if you have small hands, but I can't handle it well because I have large hands. It's a lot smaller than you think, I'm surprised the Mouse in the advert pleasured itself as well as it did
>all these zoomers saying ds
off urselves, gameboy and gbc compatibility is far superior to DS compatibility. so GBA is the way to go. the only problem is the best model has the dim screen, since the sp and all systems that would follow had shitty fragile shoulder buttons. so i cant decide which model would be best.......i guess in a hypothetical where ur not worried about the possibility of it breaking the sp has the edge over the og.
i wish it did, but sadly just GBA games
I wouldn't recommend it. Micros are always very expensive second hand. They're usually still around $50-70.
Looks like black/white
SP buttons are clicky, original GBA are mushy, The SP had actuators instead of the contacts.
Maybe you should clean the inside of yours if it's mushy, probably full of dried sweat and dirt.
is it worth getting a 2DS XL or should one just get a normal XL?
>this fucker plays almost everything
How did they do it?
clicky doesnt mean obnoxiously loud, it just means it uses a mechanical switch instead of simply registering when enough plastic has been pressed down
They also don't charge (battery is fucked by now) or have scratched screens.
cfw
>Looks like black/white
2DS doesn't have the issue with the bottom screen rim fucking up the top screen so go with that.
Psp
>optical discs
>good in a handheld
Literally haven’t had that issue. I’m guessing it doesn’t affect n3ds xl
>God Tier
DS Lite
Fat PSP
>High Tier
Vita
GBA SP
New 3DS
Switch
>Mid Tier
GB Micro
Game Gear
PSP Go
DSi
>Low Tier
GBA
OG DS
>Shit Tier
3DS
GB/GBC
>LoL
2DS
>any model ds over any model 3ds past o3ds
why. it literally plays everything with minimal effort
Why the actual fuck would anyone prefer to play on a GBA micro?
>DS Lite
phat is better, DS lite is know for having cheap hinges that break easily and its buttons, speacially the laterals, getting fucked up quickly.
Because it's the only one that actually fits in a pocket.
>I’m guessing it doesn’t affect n3ds xl
sample size of 1
Shit happened to mine so I traded it in for a N2DS. 3D is just a pointless gimmick anyways.
it's gigantic, the games run fine but it eats up AA batteries in like one hour and isn't portable in the slightest.
The dpad placement and shitty screen ruin it for me. DS and GBA games look better on DS and are comfier to play
>can't fit a folded SP in pocket
What are you a women
Yeah I don’t use 3D either. I just love the love and feel of my grey n3ds xl, really happy with itm
>le edgy "everyone but me is wrong, my personal opinion is fact" contrarian
i thought this site was 18+
I never owned a 2ds, so I assumed they reused the button's from the regular line. Some more research shows me I'm wrong, so I fixed the image.
I love everything about the micro aside from how it actuall feels to hold. Something being truly ultra portable is great, it's got a solid construction and full aluminum body, face plates are a cool feature and the screen is gorgeous. But fuck is it an uncomfy piece of shit
Better screens, better buttons, better library and can play GBA games.
Yeah my hinge broke too. I fixed it cause I'm not a little bitch who can't fix their own shit.
Ctrl f, no souljagame. Wtf?
Gameboy Advanced. Everything after that was just trying to emulate the home console experience, poorly.
>can play GBA games.
3DS can natively run every GBA game from SD(so can DSi but shhh) since it has the GBA chipset inside for maximum DS compatibility
>not modding it so you can play free games without ths disc
>not buying a memory card adapter to add more space
>DS
>A device with two fucking screen, a touch gimmick, and hardware made explicitly for cheap, 2D games in an era where consoles had abandoned 2D completely
>Trying to emulate the home console experience
>VS the GBA where half the library is SNES ports
are you dense
>A new 2DS XL is 200$ cdn
>used is at least 100$
fuggg I hate the retarded 3D gimmick its the main reason why I never got a 3DS yes you can turn it off it still triggers my autism knowing the pointless and stupid thing is on the handheld
Have you never seen a tier list before you stupid crybaby
That's a lie. GBA injection is ass on the 3DS. You get better compatibility on a fucking PSP.
>hahahaha aren’t I ironic hahahahahaha
>it's not just *my* opinion
>here's another of my shitty opinions, presented as fact
>That's a lie. GBA injection is ass on the 3DS.
Nigger you what? AGB_FIRM is literally just a GBA firmware in your 3DS running off the GBA chip
What games don't work for you? Cause literally everything I've tried has been flawless.
OG GBA with ags mod
Any game recommendations on the regular ds ? I've played many gba games but nothing past that really on nintendo handhelds.
if only backlit modded GBA wasn't $120+
Vita
Say no more.
This thing can also play Game Gear and Sega Master System games on it if you use Dr. SMS' rom converter.
Gameboy was good especially for its time. Affordable, had tons of games.
Gameboy pocket is just the Gameboy but smaller and a better screen.
Gameboy Color had potential but was too short lived. Backwards compatibility was great though.
GBA was comfy as fuck, had a bunch of great games and had great battery life. The screen ruins it though.
GBA SP 001 was an improvement but frontlighting wasn't really that good and >dongles
GBA SP 101 is God tier only ruined by >dongles
GBA Micro was a good novelty, fixed the problem with >dongles but the screen is literally for ants.
I never had a fat DS
DS Lite is God tier. GBA backwards compatibility, backlit screen, rechargeable battery, great battery life, pictochat. It had everything a good portable system should have.
Never had a DSi or DSi XL
3DS was... I don't really remember much about it. I upgraded to the XL straight away and really only played it for maybe a couple days in total max. 3D was a great novelty that wore off quick.
I remember the 3DS XL and new 3DS XL being great but I never really spent much time playing them either. Huge improvement over the OG 3DS, but I have no fond memories.
Wonderswan, Wonderswan Color, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color were alright, but the screens... kids these days really have it great.
PSP, outside of costing an arm and a leg, plus another leg and a kidney for a memory stick during the early days was epic god tier especially after being cfw'd
Vita is underrated as fuck and handled terribly but it has the potential marred by Sony being fucking retards.
>buy "broken" GBA for 20 bucks
>buy screens for 50-60 (they shot up in price again now though)
>???
>profit
>shitty screen
buttons are more precise
3ds screen is objectively better, though. DS and GBA games "look worse" because they aren't being displayed in their native resolution.
>hardware made explicitly for cheap, 2D games
DS was meant to do polygons from day 1
GBA
-Advance Wars
-3 amazing castlevanias (fuck you, HoD was a great game, just short and easy)
-2 great zelda games
-Golden sun
-The Comfiest pokemon games
-Gunstar super heroes
-Final Fantasy series
-Sonic advance 1 and 2 (the ds one are terrible)
Im sure Ive missed others, but man, gba was the shit back then, before nintendo tried to cash in on pointless gimmicks.
it costs like what less than 20$ for the backlight user only retards buy modded gameboys its very very basic soldering that is almost impossible to botch/brick the thing
The DS, no question. So many goddamn quality titles.
A DSi is a waste because DSiWare is not worth it, CFW can't take advantage of the extra power it has, and it can't even play GBA games.
I think so
Who are you quoting?
>Can't play Legacy of Goku still
Completely useless to me
The DS was super easy and cheap to develop for and got a ton of quirky off-the-wall experimental games as a result. And it was fucking glorious
It's why I genuinely belief the game industry would be in a much better place if game budgest and dev team sizes were cut in half across the board. We might get interesting games again from bigger developers if they didn't have to design by committee to sell 10 million copies to pay for their overinflated marketing budget
The GBA had at least 100 good games.
The Mother 3 Micro conflicts me so much. On one end it matches the game's theme and on the other it just looks like a micro that's been kept in terrible shape
please go back
>literally paying hundreds of dollars for a faceplate
i dont get it with the micro
OP here. It was one of my white whales and something that took me years to find. And it wasnt cheap. But I love the damn thing
Agreed. Games like TWEWY, Elite Beat Agents, Ghost Trick, and 999 couldn’t have been made on just any other platform and I will forever hold the DS in high regard for that.
Analog was always a meme outside of racers.
>i dont get it with the micro
or every non standard colour DS/3DS its just a plastic shell if it was carbon fiber or stainless sure charge retarded prices
if youre talking purely hardware and general feel, then the PS Vita is the best by a complete landslide
but library is really important for most people so that'd be a hacked 3ds for sure in that regard
go back in time to ensure your abortion?
>That's a lie. GBA injection is ass on the 3DS. You get better compatibility on a fucking PSP.
THAT'S a lie. When Nintendo made the DS they hand tested every single GBA game to make sure it would run on BC. 3DS has a copy of the DS hardware inside it, so this carries over. I've run games that won't even boot on mgba using 3DS BC
>>Can't play Legacy of Goku still
It says enable EEPROM saving and it works fine
I like the vita a lot but it's a little too big for a portable IMO and the mura effect on the screen was infuriating. But it was definitely comfy as fuck and had a top tier dpad. I just wish 'portable' consoles were actually fucking portable again
I bought a 2DS for my ex gfs son and it was comfy as fuck to play on
3DS is super comfortable in my hands, I never understood this
this but excluding Pokemon because all Pokemon games are garbage
There's infinitely superior stuff on the rich library of the DS than even the "best" Pokemon shtick
Hacked Vita by far
>Great screens compared to the 3DS
>CFW gives you access to the massive PSP library, as well as emulating everything from the PSX down, some dreamcast too
>small enough to fit in your pocket
DSi had the best screens though
either hacked vita with psp, vita, and ps1 roms/isos
or
gba with backlight mod and everdrive
You can stream games from your PC onto it too if you got an nvidia gpu.
He’s a skinny jean wearing, Starbucks onions latte sipping hipster faggot, he can barely fit his IPhone in his pocket.
this
Personally I find the weight distribution off, it's too top heavy. Dpad position isn't as optimal if you're using it as your primary control method
This is so wrong.
>Small and compact enough for your pocket
>Doesn't make you look autistic like the 3DS or Vita
>Best with hacks and homebrew which is piss easy to install
>Emulation monster capable of playing most NES, SNES, GB, GBC games
>Access to the entire PS1 library and some PS2 games
>Bluetooth
Shame it's ridiculously priced so high nowadays. Bought an OLED Vita for $115 meanwhile the PSP Go is around $150.
Sup faggots
What should I be using?
>inb4 Gbloatexperience
Only chads agree
this my DS Phat I had as a kid was from day one, and still works to this day. It got scratches on the case but the screen and buttons are fucking mint.
3DS
>inb4 but why?
Has a nice library on it's own, you can find top tier games like MH4U, A link between worlds and Kirby games which are always nice.
But once hacked it reach it's true power and boy is it brutally powerful, having access to both the DS and GBA libraries.
>64 bits
i like my handheld by my gf
PSP, but hacked Vita is pretty based too.
I fucking love video games
Vita is my favorite but PSP go is easier to pocket and N3DS is pretty based too
>232GB
what the fuck
moonlight.
What GameBoy Color/Pocket games did you even play that are inherently better than GBA games? I owned a GameBoy Color myself but never really played much on it besides Tetris, Pokemon, and Mega Man.
I never own a handheld or console for me to give an opinion.
So why are you here?
You's
Its 2000+19 I need to voice my own opinion even though its worthless to the discussion.
Have another one then, I have 9786 anyways.
I see how that could be bothersome with a game like Smash, but I never encountered an issue using the Dpad for games like Pokemon Y.
works on my micro
>the Vita came out 7 1/2 years ago
fug
the original gba is the only handheld with decent shoulder buttons
DSi XL
psp, a hacked one gave you
>NES
>SNES
>GB/GBC/GBA
>neo fuckin geo
>PS1
>that sexy library
I emulate all that shit now on the computer but back in 2007 it was definitely the GOAT handheld.I think as of right now that belongs to Vita since 3ds can be emulated pretty well on the PC
The latter can be fixed with a faceplate replacement. People are still making those for cheap.
Yeah right. try $125-150.
