Why does this game get so much shit from it's own fanbase, when it objectively fixes a lot of issues from the prior titles?

Also despite having almost 10 years to write the story, it ends up rehashing a shitload of ideas from P4, and P3 to a lesser extent. That was the most baffling thing to me.

The inspirations for P5 are very clear, it's Lupin the Third and Kaitou Kid for the "Phantom Thieves" part and Death Note for the story part

p4's biggest similarity to p2 is in its structure - the heavy emphasis on how the main cast confronts their shadow selves.
people always point out that this is a basic jungian concept, but p1 only had pandora, p3 only had metis, and p5 only had shadow futaba. 2 and 4 are the only games where it's a recurring theme.
that's where the similarities end, though. 4 is way more light-hearted than the 2 duology in terms of story and atmosphere.
