Melee's my favorite, though I never really had any friends at any point of my life, so I don't have any stories to share, despite having an insanely high amount of battles for all Smash games, with 4000+ in Ultimate already.
I can at least say however that I was very fond of Bonus Mode in Melee. This mode always seems to get forgotten, even moreso than Coin Battle, but it was always pretty fun to me, gathering points for different broad or specific objectives, like specific KOs involving items or a specific maneuver, or who pressed the most buttons, or a penalty for doing the same shit over & over. It was really fun, wish it came back.
>had smash 64 tournaments in the gym during summer camp 20 fucking years ago
>played melee with my cousins during get togethers
>had brawl nights in college
>Smash WiiU isn't in correct left to right chronological order with the rest of them
fuggin infuriating
Why are there no good grips for the regular sized n3ds? I had to buy some chinkshit on alibaba and shave the edges where the plastic meets because it'd dig into my palms. There was a dead hornet rattling around inside, too.
Do you play Melee against the CPU mostly then? I don’t have any friends that are into smash so I find it hard to enjoy Melee myself. I love Smash Ultimate though
Fuck you’re right. I’ll have to take another pic. Didn’t even think of that.
Maybe you could plastidip the edges instead of shaving
Wii U. We had it set up in my office and played it online coop during breaks frequently during its entire run.
Bump
Most fond of Melee.
Used to do 99 stock matches with my friend while we listened to Linkin Park and did dumb roleplay power fantasy stories verbally. We were in middle school and I played as Pichu a lot.
Asked this in a earlier thread, but didn't get a response.
How do I get good at Smash Ultimate Yea Forumsros?
I'm great at Melee, but Ultimate feels like an entirely different game and even my more normalfag friends beat me occasionally, and my NEET friends always fuck me up.
Melee for sure. Loved it on a casual level as a kid and it held plenty of mystery with its unlockable characters and shit like giga bowser. Now as an adult it's fun to screw around with the technical shit and speed and combo wise it truly is the best. Also hands down the best ost of the series.
I've played most of Melee by myself, yeah. It's unfortunate that i'm in buttfuck nowhere and my computer just barely can't play Melee ( I can run it at 60 FPS on some Dolphin builds, but can't on the latest builds commonly used ), and I don't really have someone that'd be willing to handle 40 FPS Melee Netplay.
I would play with you user. You’d probably win though
Take a slower approach to things. You're not gonna be able to overwhelm your opponent with offensive options even if you've got a good understanding of what they're doing. The trick lies more in them making mistakes than you being the more oppressive player: Oppression comes from bread&butters that are more prone to be able to condition your opponent into a certain option, whether it be them Double Jumping, Airdodging in a certain directions, or using an offensive option. Whiff punishing repeated attacks in neutral at around the same range is also an important element to master.
Even then, I can understand your confusion: Despite my decent grasp of Ultimate, I often find things to be weirdly backwards with safety, although that's more prominent online;
I guess just take your time? Start with a character you just like and you’ll be motivated to keep playing. Try out other characters, you may be surprised. Give online battle arenas a decent shot and don’t get upset when you lose.
I dont know how experienced you are so It’s hard to gauge you’re level of skill and what would benefit you most.
You need to realize two things
1) The entire "meta" boils down to spamming the safest move, and abusing shields
2) Tier-fags are the most annoying people to deal with
Sometimes it really isn't about winning.
I pick joke characters and do stupid shit for that reason.
Alternatively, you can just play with items on and do whatever the fuck you want.
That's nice of you. Despite all the time i've spent in Melee and my efforts to understand the series overall, I wouldn't say i'm very good either. I've got SHFFL & wavedashing purposes down but I still struggle to this day to get over Tap Jump consistently, which greatly messes up combo ability with a lot of characters, and even with all that, my execution remains on the slower side.
Brawl, it's when I was able to play the most with my friends.
We were all fucking awful, but it was fun.

Fucking this. All my favorite characters are pretty much jokes. To me, seeing my character on the victory screen is less of a victory than having fun during the match.
