Some truth but, being archetypes aside, the characters of P4 are like ordinary people with commonplace issues, which makes the game so divisive because people either like that or don't. I think some fans just find Yukiko especially hard to relate to, in so many ways being the most distinctive traditionally Japanese character in a Japanese game. Even the fact she chooses to embrace and uphold tradition rather than break from it completely must have been confounding.

I'm getting my PS4 shipped soon. I never really thought about buying one at least not until last month, when people thought it was getting port due to the announcemenst. I never really bothered because I didn't want to buy one just for one game. Is it that bad? I hear it drags on too long or it's really good from every person I ask.

It might have just been me, but it did just drag on. I really didn't like any of the character either, but I guess that's subjective. The main cast just seemed to be devoid of all personality beyond "I'm a phantom thief".
The only way you'll know if you actually like it is to play it for a good few hours. If you're not enjoying it, just drop it. It took me two years to realise that was an option.

I enjoyed it a lot, and I tend to drop most games after a few days or a week. The end feels a little rushed, but besides that it never felt like it was dragging on to me. I didn't want the game to end, really.
