I never thought I'd change my top ten list after 2006, but this game changed my mind.
It's a true great. 2 was excellent too, actually a better main story, but the side stories of 3 and DLC are just amazing.
New Vegas was a great recent game too, and strategy still makes good games, but most AAA action and RPGs are ass.

Let's compare the Iron Islands in Game of Thrones to Skellige in the Witcher. Both islands to the west of a larger continent ruled by a hostile people with a tradition of raiding the continent even when out-matched.

>The Iron islanders are said to be great raiders. Never shown. At one point they try and raid a castle to free a prisoner and run from fucking dogs.

Cerys, a clever young woman who wants to develop the Islands instead of raiding, her brother Hjalmar, a strong and brave warrior like the old Skellige Kings and Svanringe the son of the old king who's mother manipulates events to make him king despite Skellige law being Elective. All of these candidates are good and bad in their own way. Even Svanringe will confront his mother on her manipulations if the issue is brought up. Its actually morally grey.
