They fucked up in a lot of ways, and I’ll try to break it down:
>using Blazblue as the title
This pissed off Blazblue players by making people think this plays like a Blazblue game. It doesn’t and was never meant to, but it led to many people dismissing it out of hand and feeling like their mains for the past decade were just gutted versions.
>pandering to the west
ASW pretty much admitted this was a critical error considering how they’ve managed the new patch these past months. At release, they emphasized a worldwide release with no arcade version. People were getting their hands early at GameStops and comic/anime conventions, not loketests. They pulled a complete 180 on this with this patch, doing the proper thing with an arcade release first.
>General casualisation
People who actually play fighting games don’t like autocombos, and they like them even less when moves are locked behind them. It does nothing for the intermediate/decent player in exchange for being accessible for people who consistently prove over and over that they don’t play fighting games.
>DLC
Half the roster was locked at launch. This looked bad for a game that had all of the assets except for 4 characters. It didn’t matter that they were released in an incredibly timely manner, or that they were probably the most reasonably priced characters of the console generation, the damage was already done.

It’s all a shame, too, since BBTAG is the only good fighting game of 2018, although that’s not saying much considering how trash dooberz and soulcalibur ended up being. Hopefully it brings some hype at EVO and can spark a revival. I’m not holding my breath, though.

She's a zoner, just a really unorthodox one. She's not a typical anime zoner who kills you from full screen, she wears you down until she can kill you with one touch up close or time you out. On paper, her kit is really great, but once you drop something into a tag game all bets are off.

How is the arcade edition doing in japan? I enjoy the game but it feels like Arcsys doesn't plan on supporting it much longer. The way the wait for this patch was handled was pretty fucking shitty, I get the feeling EVO is going to be the announcement of the last character pack.

the reason the dlc took long was because they originally planned junpei for the dlc, but due to the whole broly VA thing they had to can him and redevelop for teddie

Also the characters feel pretty great to me imo, especially Heart’s homing dash. But I’m going to pray that they patch in some unique interactions for the new fighters soon.
