Will we ever get a proper Quake reboot to reignite interest in arena shooters?

Will we ever get a proper Quake reboot to reignite interest in arena shooters?
By proper I mean single player and multi player.

Not possible. Nobody can even agree on exactly how much to take Quake 3 and implement features from later shooters (which people want, otherwise we would just play Q3 forever) and we've tried like twenty times.

Nobody has ever tried to reboot Quake
Quake wasnt a multiplayer shooter originally

No, otherwise Beth/Zenimax wouldn't have treated Champions the way they did. Poorly coded and completely lacking any real vision or planning. Game would have easily supported itself with a small, dedicated playerbase but it was so fucking unoptomized that people were able to play it one update and then suffering another, on top of having a terrible queue that failed to get you back into the game quicky.

The aesthetic seems to be seeing a small resurgence, at least, with Dusk, Amid Evil, and Wrath coming out. I haven't actually played any of them so I can't say how similar they are to Quake gameplay.

You mean a new Quake 1 right? Not a new Quake 2/3/4? Those are the faggy ones

That is what I said yeah

>Battle Royales killed the Arena shooter, forever

Change my mind

QC is great, even without single player campaign.

Attached: 15550960018880.jpg (661x568, 93K)

Its fucking rubbish

Nothing about Quake is worthy of a reboot

It's a bland brown repetitive shooter

>Will we ever get a proper Quake reboot to reignite interest in arena shooters?
>By proper I mean single player and multi player.

Not unless consoles magically die out.

The fact that every FPS of the last 15 years is designed around a gamepad means there is no hope for Quake-style gameplay outside of indie devs, most of which don't have enough resources to make a 3d game.

>Not unless consoles magically die out.

Or unless PC tards magically start buying games

Quake champions is your "arena" shooter Quake 1 reboot.

What you want is a solo/co-op FPS in the Quake 1 universe.

You do realise Quake 1 is a single player game

QC is a broken dying mess

Are you 12 or something?
Arena shooters died long before BR was even a thing. Nobody likes the "Arena Shooter" model of shooter, they're shit.

Proper?
No

2gd is working on a release for Diabotical on last quarter this year. They have a lot of zoomer gimmicks planned out that won't alienate fans of the genre. They also have a giant marketing and funding plan for esports and honestly if there's a time to play arena it's when diabotical releases, the game will be significantly easier than quake and the first people to get in on it will be absolutely rich as fuck. Why would I tell you this and create more competition? Because let's be honest, nobody here will compete on a serious level, but you'll watch the tourneys and watch the game and most of you will play it to death.

QC is unsalvageable at this point

I wish we could have a game like Quake that wasn't just a shitty rip-off of Quake
Like, come up with some cool new weapons and enemies instead of the old ones with different skins

What the fuck else am i supposed to play?

Broken? not really. Dying? getting there. Been mismanaged horribly and working with almost no devs right now.

Doubt diabotical will do any better than any of the other quake clones.

A lot of the things that made Quake cool cannot be replicated.

You would have to trick the developers into making a fantasy game and then force then to change it to Quake at the last second.

It started out single player but the multiplayer became the main draw. Eventually nobody was playing it for the single player except maybe speedrunners.

>Or unless PC tards magically start buying games
Too late. Console FPS have reigned supreme for so long that even PC tards now prefer them over PC FPS.

A decades-old console FPS is literally the most wishlisted game on Steam:
store.steampowered.com/search/?filter=popularwishlist

Attached: 1549392673004.jpg (400x400, 36K)

Already did that with Unreal, look where that got us.

Reflex died because the devs were dumbasses and spent 0$ on marketing. 2GD worked in esports for over a decade, he knows exactly where to stab.

You do realize that "arena shooters" are just the deathmatch/capture the flag modes of regular shooters? In a single player quake map, unless you're in a boss level there isn't any arena. You run through a maze to the exit, shooting the monsters in the way. If anything, you should call your desired game a Maze Shooter.

arena shooters died in 2007 when ut3 came out, you could find hundreds of populated ut2004 servers, ut3 obliterated that by coming out and also being a bad game saturated with bugs
the fads in that time were motion controls into everything and your microwave and zombies

>A decades-old console FPS is literally the most wishlisted game on Steam:
I keep saying this but a casual arena shooter is a niche that isn't being filled on the PC.

Doom 2016's MP is perfectly described as "casual arena shooter". Quake-like gametypes with party game RNG stuff like hack modules and things like superweapons and Demon Runes to give easy kills to beginners

Quake 1 was a masterpiece.
Quake 2 was inferior but still amazing.
Quake 3 is the best FPS ever made. (with mods)
Quake 4 was a huge disappointment.
Quake Champions is possibly the most disappointing video game of all time.

Seriously vanilla Quake 3 is just the perfect arena shooter. And with CPM/PQL mod it's like the best of 1 and 3.

I'm hoping 2GD doesn't fuck up Diabotical.

Attached: ranger.jpg (479x730, 158K)

Too bad it was ruined by loadouts.

>Quake wasn't a multiplayer shooter
Holy shit yes it was you fucking babby

Attached: 00197305.jpg (470x432, 45K)

Quake 1 and 2 are SP FPS' with MP. Q3 is a MP shooter,

It's backwards. Q1&2 were played like multiplayer games with single player modes.

You're joking right?

I didnt say reboot an arena shooter I said reboot quake to get people interested in arena shooters again since the name quake has been dragged through the mud recently

It was a single player game with a multiplayer mode you zoomer

Not they weren't you fucking moron

>You're joking right?
No, I'm not. I was there. Were you?

Of course everyone was there. What kind of a question is that? People born in 2001 are already legal to browse this shithole.

Maybe Eternal will have an interesting MP mode.

Attached: doom-eternal-cg.jpg (1067x600, 86K)

Then how do you not know that everybody was in it for the MP? Nobody gave a shit about the single player.

>It's a bland brown repetitive shooter

But that's the perfect formula for a deathmatch game and precisely why Quake is the benchmark for that even 20+ years later.

There has never been anything that compares, nothing, and there never will be.

Nowadays it's crazy thinking I can play Quake on a modern machine with 4K resolution and some awesome hi-res texture support at 1500 fps, it's insanely awesome.

>people think you can't notice a difference between 30 fps and 1500
>you can't but I can

don't get your hopes up

They're gonna do Dark Souls-style campaign invasions and you'll play as a demon when you invade
mite b cool

Arena shooters are too hardcore for scrubs, they never last.
Besides, Quake Champions is great and only casuals don't like it.

Yes but they also confirmed they're doing traditional FPS multiplayer.

I've met people that played the multiplayer in the last doom unironically and think it's the epitome of arena shooter.

They won't make another arena shooter after how badly QC flopped. They probably think that's why QC failed and not because it's a terrible game

My only hope for a new influx of players for arena shooters is Doom Eternal. If it sells well, is well received, and has a good multiplayer this time.

At 1500fps you can actually see the serial numbers on the rockets it's awesome.

There will never be a arena shooter revival because you fags don't play them. Every attempt to make a new arena shooter and they die a quick swift death.

>arena shooter gets released
>it's nowhere as good as Quake Live
>don't want to play Quake Live because it's a 20 year old game
yeah

>i was there
Do you want a sticker or something retard? How come you dont know how important the single player was to FPS genre if you were there retard?

I wanted to play and like Quake Champions but all the bullshit with it put me off completely, and now it seems abandoned by the devs.

>Not they weren't you fucking moron
Technically, he's right. There's no such thing as true 'single player' Quake- even playing SP is actually just hosting a local server with a max playercount of 1.

I've installed the first quake modded for modern config and it was great. I had no nostalgia for it because I never played it when it came out (I'm an HL/ut99 dude) and I still had a lot of fun. It was fast, responsive and had great gameplay overall.

Keep QC alive long enough for Hunter to return.

Attached: 37384092802.png (1800x4100, 3.42M)

Arena shooters nope, but I can see a chance of fast pvp shooters with decent non hitscan weapons having a revival. Tribes Ascend and Titanfall 2 did much, much better than any arena shooter revival attempt this decade. Pick up the red armor to win is a gametype that isn't coming back, but midairing people with rocket launchers could.

Attached: rocket launcher.jpg (259x194, 4K)

found the doombabby

There IS holy fucking hell
Do you call every game with a multiplayer mode a multiplayer game? Is Dead Space 2 a multiplayer shooter? Quake 1 and 2 were single player first multiplayer second and the OP is clearly talking about a single player Quake reboot with mp tacked on just like DOOM
All they would need to do is have a strong SP to get people interested again, and have a Q3 style MP included and people would start playing again

This felt like the next step for UT to me and I loved it but it sadly flopped.

Attached: 3248039-box-core.jpg (320x320, 52K)

There's no bullshit, you're just making stupid excuses. The game is great.

Attached: 29711917936-offset-8448.webm (852x480, 2.96M)

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin looks like it might be good. Just hoping for a decent enemy roster instead of generic zombie reskins we've seen so far

>anarkid
gross

It doesnt run on my PC anymore.

How to spot the clueless shitter.

That's a top 5 player in the world.

how to spot the cpmababby
i bet you spend hours bitching on plebbit how you NEED a medium champ with air control so you can use three cpma champs in duel

What was that game actually like? All I knew about it at the time is that clifford bazinga was making an ass of himself on twitter

then post some impressive webms, not a bog fucking standard rail combo
>implying pros would play anything but the most broken shit

That's literally one of the best quake player in the world you retard.

You're probably only saying this because you didn't have internet at the time I bet. Quake SP is not strong at all.

>anarki
>broken
You're embarrassing yourself.

in a game with differing movement styles, cpma will always be inherently broken
sorry bud

...

The zero gravity seemed like a dumb mechanics. Why not just make UT heroes? Yeah people would've bitched but it would've given them a stronger, more interesting foundation. Add in features from UT2004 and I bet it still would've had a decent playerbase

I doubt you would take 1 round off of him.

I can tell you're very young

How about you shut your whore mouth.
CPMA is king. That guy is obviously a nobody. Or worse, a defragger.

Low grav maps in UT were awful when played with people who could aim. You had the option of fun jumping tempting you all the time, but knew that being in the air would just get you hitscanned every time. If lawbreakers played like that I can see why it didn't do well.

>Hunter
>ever returning

Attached: the ugliest ranger.png (246x241, 4K)

I was 20 when Quake 1 came out.

It felt like UT2k4 to me with only the team based objective modes with classes with skills, their own movement abilities and set weapon loadouts. The skills were no where near as impactful as say Overwatch. It was super fast with some, imo, underutilized zero gravity areas.
I think it failed because of piss poor marketing, no serverbrowser only matchmaking, no deathmatch modes, no ingame tutorials explaining the mechanics, and covering the screen with pointless UI shit, decals and particles fucking everywhere so you couldnt see shit in a lightning fast game.

Sure you were kid

where's pro quake, civvie?

gotta do pro TNT, Plutonia first

Attached: 20190520_205830.jpg (1920x2560, 864K)

based boomer

>i'll show him im a middle aged guy on an anime site arguing with kids about video games! that'll show him!

>posting your face on Yea Forums
niggerwhatthefuckareyoudoing.jpg
Also you're still wrong so thats hilarious

boiling

Clip your fucking nails, old man. Sweet beard though.

how were the 90's? I was too young to remember it clearly. Was it as good as I remember or is that just nostalgia?

You're the one mad enough to post your face tho

You still have nostalgia for that era, that's why you like it

I would love to see Quake 1 remade while keeping what made it wonderful.

I would also love to see a true sequel to Quake 1 with Lovecraftian horror and fighting medieval knights in gothic settings with rotating machine guns.

I do not recognize Quake 2, 3, and 4 as Quake games.

Lots of grunge bands and arcades were still a thing. People used to line up to play Mortal Kombat, winner would stay on the machine. Daytona USA was also pretty fun with a bunch of people that you don't even know playing.

Quake was never as memorable as Doom so it has only slid into irrelevance with time. Brown, ugly, barely-recognizable low-poly models can't compare to bright, colorful, easily-distinguishable sprites. The music and sound design was more iconic in Doom despite being mostly plagiarized heavy metal MIDIs and stock sound effects. Shooters were new and interesting at the time of Doom's release and had already become commonplace by the time Quake was created. Mario 64 came out around the same time as Quake and looked way better. Not many people had Internet at all in 1996 so only a handful of people got to experience Quake's multiplayer. Nor did many people have 3d graphics cards. Like every id game after Doom, Quake was impressive from a purely technological standpoint. Just another notch in John Carmack's belt.

With Doom 2016 having a lot of success its not inconceivable, lets hope Eternal goes well.

I want to go back.

Nope. I like it because it's fast paced and very responsive.

Like it's a big secret, oh no I better not go outside gotta hide my identity.

arcades are awful, now 90s lan parties where the fucking shit. except for the lugging heavy machinery part

Quake will never make a proper return because boomer pretenders will never stop thinking Quake should be nothing but multiplayer only at all times only to then not play a multiplayer only arena shooter by using any and every single excuse they can to just go back to Fortnite.

The only singleplayer games you're getting from the old IPs is Doom stuff because of this. If you want more old school you're better off looking at the bunch of indie games coming out that capture that era almost perfectly.

I didn't know enough people who actually had computers.

You don't look much older than me and I'm in my late 20's.

False, if you had a brain cell left you would play better shooter like painkiller

I get that from my dad. He's in his 60's and still looks like me pretty much.

>hurr durr if you play quake you can't play painkiller
Keep moving the goal post, mongoloid.

Not him, but fuck off. If you had a brain cell left you would play a better shooter like Dusk.
>MUH NEW IS ALWAYS BETTER

>Mario 64 came out around the same time as Quake and looked way better.

Fuck of you retarded nigger

What, you think single player Quake is actually good?

let's not pretend you were the target audience for quake 1, or that you were even born then, for that matter. it's cringe

Try gitting gud.

Based. Your beard makes all of your opinions valid

imagine being this guy

Attached: absolutelydisgusting.jpg (600x918, 102K)

Come on. I'll grant you the controls are fun but the game is short and easy and full of the same enemies even on nightmare.

Quake's enemy variety is fine, it's just compressed compared to Doom. There's less completely pointless cannon fodder that dies when you sneeze at it, but the toughest enemies also die faster than their Doom/Doom 2 equivalents. Also, you're not supposed to play on Nightmare.

Nightmare is the only difficulty that even requires slight effort though.

>reignite interest in arena shooters

are we ignoring quake champions?

Nightmare makes some enemies like Vores considerably harder, but also makes some enemies easier like Fiends and completely breaks some enemies like Ogres. It's a half-finished mode hidden intentionally, not like Doom's hardest difficulties adding faster and respawning enemies, different ammo amounts, etc.

Now this fucking moron must be baiting

>only played a little bit of quake as a kid
>never touched it again
>played through it just recently
>game is pretty fucking bland and the levels are boring
>game fucks up and delets all my runes after beating the 4th area
>feel no desire to play through the game again

game didn't really age well.

>how do we get people interested in this old style of gameplay
>yes, the only possible way is to resurrect some stale old IP nobody gives a shit about anymore and that separate from the gameplay was never even good to begin with

You don't repopularize arena shooters with the fucking Quake ip. Maybe the blandest shooter IP even at its peak. UT had the same obnoxious 90s 'tude and awful character designs but compared to Quake it was like a breath of fresh air, because at least there were colors and some cool pyramids and stuff instead of just shit brown walls and skulls.

Boomer arena shooter fags legitimately seem to be some of the stupidest people in gaming, because all I ever see them do is lament the fact that nobody cares about their genre, while begging for another Quake or UT as if the most important thing is nostalgia-pandering to people who are already interested.

Based as fuck. That user got blown the fuck out.
Seething bitch. Go back to Discord.

I guess. Neither fiends or ogres are very threatening though. Both completely miss moving targets and are trivial to kill.

cool user you're the big video game man

>Will we ever get a proper Quake reboot to reignite interest in arena shooters?
No. Any other question? You cannot remake perfection, user.

>small, dedicated playerbase
that's right, 600 average players on steam, although you can also play through the shitty bethesda launcher

Galena game when?

Attached: galena4k.png (1612x1681, 2.67M)

the people who play arena shooters never stopped playing them. all the people who want arena shooters to be popular again don't actually play them because XP bars and progression have ruined their ability to enjoy arcade shooters.

Isn't she from Heretic/Hexen universe?

Samefag
You're really insecure huh

Not explicitly. Her backstory is she was a kid who was given to a cult as a sacrifice to save a town, but the cult instead razed the town to the ground and raised the kid as their champion, including being directly blessed by one of the Old Ones that Ranger dealt with and that Death Knight served. She might be undead. We're not sure. Either way, it's mostly fluff 'cause they stuck a big fucking Serpent Riders trident on her chest anyway and just added some ridges to the end to get around the whole, "We're not entirely sure who owns the rights to Heretic at this point, but we don't think it's us" thing.

The only reason I don't play Arena Shooters anymore is because no one will play with me. I'm currently under my way of making AI to play with me, they will be my friends. New kind of friends for a new kind of age.
OpenAI already showed us a glimpse of the future, but imagine a world where the AI will talk to you and be your friend. I can't wait to finally have friends.

senpai arena shooters have ALWAYS had ai bots what the hell are you smoking

Attached: 1493133967338.jpg (350x427, 48K)

everyone else is, including the devs

Funny how people pretend to be that guy until somebody actually is that guy.
