95% of places literally only send out security to keep insurers happy. There's not much you can do that is already covered by security cameras and locked doors. So you spend most of your time dicking around on your phone.

it supposedly actually kinda sucks because you have to put up a real show that you're contributing in the "right" ways. bugfixing, maintenance and iteration on existing products is looked down upon. new fancy features that get dropped within a year get you a big bonus. you basically have to do social politics to ensure you have people ready to vouch for your usefulness so you don't get fired when it comes time to do peer reviews. it's a horrible dysfunctional set up that used to work when valve was like 20 friends hanging out together and no longer works because it's a hundred nobodies all looking out for number one

My favourite FPS game is Q3A. RTCW is also a good mention, and ET completely humiliated Valve with how much better it was than both TFC and TF2. Thief 1&2 is also pretty great. I mean I can just name old FPS games and they are all gonna be better than Valve shit.

Valve specialises in FPS and they fucking suck at it. I've still not played an FPS game less engaging than a Valve title.
