This. Most 90s games still hold up to a decent degree, but NES games are always bland, basic, shallow and artificially difficult.

Wouldn’t say always, I think that most NES platforming classics like SMB3, Mega Man etc. still hold up rather nice, because their level design is still rock solid and not limited by tech in a noticeable way. But yea, it’s hard to find other genres where NES games are still 10/10 stuff, especially considering that many famous NES games got completely eclipsed by their SNES sequels.

i played ss2 for the first time like five years ago, and i could easily see past the aged graphics because the gameplay and setting was so fasinating.
