3 and 4 were both enjoyable and memorable gaming experiences that introduced a lot of unique ideas and mechanics. 4 was arguably the title that made the Persona series mainstream.
5 just made it look pretty and next-gen but wasn’t memorable in the slightest. It just took what was established and made it look nice. That’s what went wrong.

persona 4 would had fallen into obscurity, in fact it did so up until they made the anime adaptation which turned out to be a massive hit and reinvigorated the interest to the series.

Persona 4 is unironically my favorite game of all time. I get that people didn't like the Scooby Doo plot, but I really liked it. Something like MGS3 or Bloodborne is probably better, but Persona 4 is my favorite. I only played it fairly recently as well, so no nostalgia goggles.
