I don't even think that the Banjo Kazooie games are very good and that's as a person who grew up in the N64 era but it's so clearly obvious that Banjo is the best possible DLC character.
Banjo Kazooie whether or not I personally like it is a super respected legacy Nintendo character. He has a shitton of moves in his games that would make designing a moveset for him really easy, and he would mesh perfectly with the art style of the games (far better than many of the characters already in do.)
I like Shantae a lot more than Banjo but Banjo deserves to get in more.

Unironically, banjo is the safest bet for a character for smash. Since nintendo pulled joker on us though, anything is possible, but will more than likely be pulled from games that are big in japan (not shantae).
some dragon quest character is possible, hell someone from undertale has more of a chance since that game was a pretty big hit over there.
shantae just doesnt have the popularity for a slot. She rightfully earns the spot as a spirit though. We all know if spirits didnt exist, she would have just been mentioned as a trophy
