This will unironically be my GOTY, I'm sure of it.
I already put over 1k hours into the first, and this sequel has SO many cool new things, they basically brought in everything I could have possibly asked for and then some.
We don't even know everything yet and it already looks so fucking amazing. Can't wait for Yea Forumseekends of us playing it in 4 player online mode together.
Now that you mention it, NSMBU's sun does look kinda odd.
William Green
He's done being angry at you, now he's just disappointed in you.
Ryan Clark
so just like my mom
Ayden Mitchell
And what does the SM3DW sun look like I wonder
Ian Cruz
Pretty sure there is none
Aaron Jackson
Why wouldn't there be one? I thought everything from the old games was in the SM3DW style, just not the other way around.
Leo King
Nope, SM3DW doesn't have all the enemies, objects and features from other styles.
Jackson Cox
When you switch from an old game style to SM3DW, everything gets deleted. I could be wrong and I hope I am, but I think that means that SM3DW is pretty limited and doesn't really have a different version for day and night levels.
Ian Williams
If story mode is good it's GOTY material for sure. I don't doubt its sales potential either.
Cooper Baker
I guess you are right, it lacks some things all the other, older styles have.
Couldn't enjoy it on the Wii U, the level creator is amazing but all the community levels are trolls or kaizo shit.
Joseph Taylor
Have you tried to find the good ones? Plenty of good creators out there you can find and follow with third party websites for it
Owen Moore
I thought the only thing new there was the hammer power-up and underwater at night.
Asher Smith
>SMB sprites are flatter and use the 3 colors available to fill the entire sprite >SMB3 spriters have a little more depth and take advantage of the background color inside the sprite w/ transparent pixels to make it appear like they use 4 colors It's the little stuff
Hunter Johnson
>the new smw sprites are just kinda bad What a shame
Anthony Nguyen
Awesome, love me some Kacho
Asher Thomas
I just want good normal levels. I don't want WOOOOOOOAH CRAZY SHIT ALL OVER THE SCREEN WOOOOOOOAH ITS SO HARD.
I want levels that you'd actually see in Mario
Caleb Gutierrez
Go in Easy or Normal then
Evan Watson
>no amiibo outfits
DROPPED R O P P E D
Easton Reyes
which ones? I thought the new SMW sprites from mario maker 1 were good
Nicholas Johnson
HIRE
Benjamin Smith
I know they haven't announced anything yet, but I have a hard time believing that they would cut this. Maybe they are saving it as a final announcement prior to launch? Maybe they will be a bigger deal this time around where characters actually play different and aren't just reskins
Lincoln Rivera
They literally added a tag for "standard" levels. You can also just use community sites like reddit to find good creators and levels, unironically
No. The body is fan made, but completing the sprite would have been easier and would have looked better than the completely new Bowser sprite that they made for Mario Maker. If Nintendo really hated the green body that much, they could have simply corrected the colors and it still would have looked great. See: The SMW Bowser sprite in Mario Maker is just terrible
Lucas Roberts
*adds slopes and vertical sub-areas*
That'll be $59.99+monthly fee for the internet you already pay for+tip
Let's just ignore the million other things they added, then.
Nicholas Parker
so don't buy it?
Jaxson Ross
Sorry but i'm too lazy to write out all the things they added over 3 posts Good shitpost though
Jonathan Lopez
Meh its more for kids and casual gamers so if i bloody pick it up i bet i wont like it same whit the 1st most levels are bad and the good ones are far in between why Nintendo just make a nother fun Unique game like the snes and nes days where you dint put sequel after sequel out its gething tire some and The Ports of the good old Wii u go cry more Nintendo bitch
Christopher Kelly
If is anything to go by, an original style sprite would have been way too tall and wouldn't work with the stile swapping. Still, I would have liked if they at least tried to make it look similar.
A good game doesnt need you to look up a guide or a shitey site
Oliver Thompson
Are you having a stroke?
Wyatt Ramirez
Good old asia not saying which country
Chase Lopez
Probably want to downplay it. Amiibo hasn't been really a big forefront thing since last year with the Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem Warriors and Mario Odyssey figurines(and the cereal). Seems like Nintendo realizes people are more interested in having inexpensive Nintendo figurines than having some NFC thing working across multiple games.
There's instructions for how to make the torrent links work if you click on episode downloads and scroll to the batch torrents and stuff
Brayden Gutierrez
Amiibo is probably for creator costumes which is sad
Joshua Harris
Autoplay garbage is even worse.
Noah Wright
Same problem I had. I used to play Expert Mario mode all the time and every level was either Troll or Kaizo. I hope they fix that in this sequel.
Ryan Howard
What was your guys' best received stage in SMM1?
For me it was a "kart" level. I happened to unlock the Mario Kart costume early on and made a course around it that made it feel like you were on a race track dodging obstacles and jumping gaps etc. People seemed to love it, got tons of comments on it, stars and so on.
This level I made. In hindsight, it isn't that good, but it's still pretty fun to speedrun.
James Myers
>there are people that think Nintendo would not show off Amiibo costumes "because it isn't a new feature" despite the fact that they spent 5 minutes covering old features in the Direct >there are people that think Nintendo doesn't shill amiibo at every available opportunity for every game that has it >100 mario challenge is gone >you can earn "medals" to buy things that will change your Mii's outfit
There's no use to keep living in denial. Mystery Mushroom is out.
It would be cool if Amiibos gave you costumes for your Maker profile. I was never a fan of Mario 1 style anyway. The ? Mushrooms only encouraged people to overuse that style.
Samuel Bennett
If you need to start your collection from scratch, grab the 2015 batch torrent, then whatever's newer than that you can get one at a time from the latest subs paste.
Brayden Roberts
At this point I'll be happy to see the new Animal Crossing this E3, anything else is just a bonus
Josiah James
Animal Crossing Pokémon Luigi's Mansion Fire Emblem
I'd say their E3 is stacked enough as is yeah And who knows what new stuff
Logan Ross
Which is the best theme and why is it NSMBU
Colton Thomas
Although my favorite Mario 2D game is SMW, I find the original style the best for my levels somehow.
It's just so pure.
Carson Parker
I like SMB mostly because of the mystery mushroom, but since they're removing it in this game, It would have to be world. 3D world is absolutely the worst due to all the stuff it lacks. It doesn't even have tracks!
Kevin Robinson
tracks aren't confirmed to be gone from 3D world so dont give up yet
Dominic Hughes
SMW > SMB > SMB3 > NSMBU
Aiden Sanders
>It doesn't even have tracks Is this true? Stage creation will be kinda limited if so.
Wyatt Bell
got 79 stars for a really easy stage that was mostly just walljumping with few obstacles
>2000 objects max (maybe 5000 in this version) >no custom music >barely any decoration why is nintendo still unable to compete with a $4 phone game?
Nicholas Walker
I just wanna make coin objective courses but stick the big coins in little challenge zones. I really hope the bullshit like the example you provided isn't actually that common in the long run.
13m45s Those bouncy donut things are based as hell. I can already picture the kind of aggravating nightmare levels you can make by having those everywhere and making people bounce around like mad.
Christopher Sanders
skip and boo button it is.
Brandon Peterson
Gonna steal that idea. "Collect 10 coins" and each coin is behind a little challenge gauntlet. You probably can't boo until you beat the level, same as liking the stage. Otherwise every single kaizo level would get insta-boo'd by thousands of kids worldwide.
Andrew Ortiz
smbx was better
Christopher Walker
what game now?
Xavier Cooper
Nope, you just pause the game and can do it, just like you could star a level from pause menu before beating it.
Go for it user. I hope to play many coin grabbing challenge gauntlets once the game is out.
Ryder King
it was a big romhack from like a decade ago pretty great but i don't know if anything like it's been touched
Caleb Hall
Check the beginner's guide on /t/. I think qBittorrent is the most recommended client these days.
Angel Gray
>"Collect 10 coins" and each coin is behind a little challenge gauntlet. That's not really different from just using red coins.
Jayden Martinez
Get Boo'd immediately fucker. >Otherwise every single kaizo level would get insta-boo'd That's the point. Let's be real here. Most Kaizo/Super Expert levels are trash. Some are 500 IQ GOAT gameplay but most are just unfair/go to the wrong pipe and die immediately bullshit.
Nicholas Smith
I unironically like the simplicity of the right picture way more. Left is less comfy and unironically pretty soulless.
Thomas Williams
Since the course stats don't seem to show "Boo!"s, I'm assuming that it's either a hidden stat that makes a course less likely to show up for random players, or maybe it subtracts from or otherwise affects a course's likes.
Kayden Myers
It just reduces the score gained from likes. No shown downvotes to not hurt feewings just like youtube.
Jordan King
Kaizo levels aren't really about "enter the wrong pipe and die instantly haha lol"
Anthony Perry
The problem is that kids and casual would just boo a difficult level immediately, even if it's greatly designed, if they're bad at the game.
Levi Barnes
it's going to be an entire dick sucking segment for animal crossing just like what they did fro Xenoblade 2. Not that I mind it because it's been radio silence from them since it's announcement
Asher Myers
god i hope luigi's mansion is more like 1 than 2
Eli Perez
I think at the very least you shouldn't be able to like or boo until you either completed the course OR spent "quite some time" on it.
Booing after 3 seconds is lame.
Christopher Myers
Then don't place an instadeath thwomp at the beginning of the stage.
Jack Walker
You know fully well that kids might boo a stage just because they die on the first jump
Brandon Scott
>Kids >Having NSO Say what you will about Nintendo's online service, but $20 still serves as a decent enough barrier for a parent to say "We're already spending money for your PS4/Xbox account. You don't need both."
Josiah Wood
I just hope lanky Mario is still in
Easton Cox
I think only completion is a bit much but doing what Youtube did and have it where you have to make it to a certain length of the game is fair.
Like you have to reach a quarter way from to flag to be able to Boo or Like.
Ayden Hall
why are the SMB1 banzai bills making me laugh so fucking hard every time ?
Jace Sanchez
They look like someone pressed on their soft spot too hard.
Brayden Carter
You clearly know nothing then. Online is full of children.
Lucas Wood
I assume people that people with over 500 hours of playtime with this have some sort of autism?
David Miller
Yes a very dangerous one called having fun with video games.
NSMBU style is so bad. Some things just blend in with the background and makes it harder to see and the colors look so faded. Why do all 2D games have to be made with 3D graphics now?
Zachary James
I agree that the NSMBU style is bad, but I don't know what you mean about objects blending in with the background. The problem with the NSMBU style is that everything looks so... bland. It is the very definition of "soulless"
Bentley Clark
Do you think we're gonna be able to choose from a pool of tracks? This image seems to suggest there's music to select.
Some of his levels were actually pretty kino. I liked the companion cube one.
Xavier Gutierrez
Knowing Nintendo, it's probably just going to allow you to select music from other styles and themes for your level. No songs that aren't in the game already.
Underground level with branching paths. Any time you can convince someone to play your shitty levels more than once it's an absolute win. Still kinda disappointed I didn't spend more time making levels, but the Wii U fell pretty hard pretty fast and now the audience for this game is extremely limited.
>no songs that aren't already in it woah did you think they'd let you play rammstein or taylor swift?
Angel Davis
Until someone finds it and posts a comment.
Jason Williams
They already have enough to talk about without having to promote a game thats coming out like 2 weeks after E3
The only "new" game that I'm really hoping for is a Prime Trilogy port
Zachary Scott
>Knowing Nintendo, it's probably just going to allow you to select music from other styles and themes for your level. I've wanted this since the first game. That would be awesome.
I made a level called Icy Fortress near launch. People loved it since it was a fairly traditional level that was challenging but fun. I actually think thanks to that I got a decent following because many of my levels got some decent ratings. I was always sad though that some of the ones I considered my finest ended up being less liked since I upped the difficulty. Specifically a SMB3 level I believe I called Frozen Fortress. I took lessons learned and made a pretty challenging castle that mixed fire and ice. Even set up segments with raining ice blocks.
If they added "costumes" but permanent (players just spawn as it) and they had the likes of Kirby, DK, Sonic and Megaman available across ALL styles... I would literally bust a nut imagining all the cool themed levels you could make.
Juan Cook
>at E3 they reveal they plan to add DLC to let you make full Donkey Kong levels (bananas, all the enmies, barrels etc.) >also adding a Kirby maker
I was thinking along the lines of music from other Mario games. Hell, there are a ton of tracks from NSMBU and 3D World that aren't going to appear in the game.
Julian Ward
I kinda wish they added something like the Mario Paint composer as an option to make your own music, but that'd probably be a bit too complicated for younger players and easily abusable in hindsight.
Asher Harris
I would really like a music maker included like there was in Mario Paint so we wouldn't have to use up all our objects rigging enemies and music blocks inside of levels.
Jacob Johnson
I'm really excited but I don't plan to get a Switch until the revision.
Benjamin Bell
You'll be waiting forever then because it's not happening.
Liam Scott
Like how the cranes and doors in the snow style stand out in all the games except NSMBU. The edges of the NSMBU door has the same color as the background with no outline making it blend in. And in the forest theme, the bullet bill stands out in all except NSMBU. Again, the dark bullet bill blends in a little with the dark background. Yes, SMB has a dark background too, but at least the bullet bill has an outline around it. I know I'm being autistic here, but I just really don't like it.
Also, the lighting in NSMBU castle is ugly.
William Anderson
I mean it'll obviously happen eventually, but might be another 2 years
Jaxson Ross
geometry dash has an agreement with newgrounds to directly access their entire music library. nintendo could do the same thing.
Grayson Taylor
Is it really worth the wait though?
Caleb Evans
Beautiful user
Michael Perry
Not for me. I play docked 99% of the time. The only revision I'd be interested in is a much more powerful Switch that is docked-only or something.
But I guess the revision will be a handheld-only one with a stronger battery life.
Jace Bell
>make level aimed at multiplayer >place on/off switches such that people who are slightly behind can fuck up people ahead of them
I was thinking more something along the lines of 5 challenge gauntlets with Celeste's strawberry style coins, making the goal 75 coins and having like 80 total throughout the 5 gauntlets
Owen Gonzalez
>Even Undo Dog works for a living What's your excuse Yea Forums?
Juan Bennett
Can someone explain what the fuck is happening here?
He just has to work extra hard to support his chronic undo habit
Liam Hughes
>Make your own walking sim on the walking sim console No thanks
Evan Ward
Nintendo destroy poopy box x and cuckcee faggot for once, too bad it too is on a onions based console like the peeU
Alexander Morales
E3 hasn't even happened yet. Bit early to call GOTY when we haven't even seen Animal Crossing 2019.
Nathaniel Roberts
I've watched a guy play it for dozens of hours, I'm skeptical of it being any good. Seems way too restrictive for any ""real"" kind of game and for something set you'd be better off with shit like smm
Thomas Bennett
Do you ever read your own posts?
Luke Taylor
This is how I felt going from LBP1 to LBP2, level maker games are goat
World was always a mixed bag visually. The Bowser sprite is exceptionally bad though.
Easton James
No need for this shitflinging Level editor bros can live in harmony
Dreams and mariomaker are two different kettles of fish
Robert Watson
They like keeping little secrets for Treehouse to cover like Ridley's amiibo and Samus Returns.
David White
>There are people who unironically want this shit in 100 Mario Challenge.
Anthony Jackson
Kinda wish they'd just drop the earlier games. All the retrofitting makes them look nothing like the originals anyway. Only SMW and NSMBU look passably the same
Ryan Powell
>not only can you make kaizo levels, but you can make them in the night time theme with the gravity being reversed and mario walking on the ceiling, jumping downwards
It's E3, brainlet. Even if Nintendo isn't officially attending the actual event, and is instead only doing a Direct, it is essentially going to be their E3 presentation. Nintendo, like every other gaming company, is certainly keeping some things secret in the weeks leading up to E3 so that they can deliver an impressive showing when everyone will be watching.
Hunter Nguyen
I humbly ask all creative anons who plan on making a crap ton of stages to NOT force me see/ interact with this horrible little "angry" sun any more than I need to. I know you all to be kind and benevolent and I have no doubt you will not disappoint me with such a simple request.
Its issue is the opposite, it gives creators too many tools and no pre-made mechanics or assets (at least in the early access) A small number of people have made some cool characters with great mechanics though
Logan Hughes
Freakin' logic gates
Ethan Jackson
The fuck are you talking about. Nintendo IS "officially" attenting E3. Otherwise they wouldn't have a giant show floor with booths everywhere you clown.
Justin Bailey
I don't like dealing with the angry sun myself, so I'll probably never use it. Still, nice addition for people who liked it I guess.
Noah Sanders
It looks so fucking bad, and what's with the weird outline when nothing else in the NSMBU style has any outline
James Myers
Holy fucking based
Camden Ward
What
Blake Ramirez
Dreams already censoring an innocent frog
Andrew Johnson
Imagine believing that "better" graphics and more (shitty) options can overcome the extremely limiting level size and garbage engine Also, >Console warring in current year + 4
Angel Price
>mfw seeing his reaction to on/off switches He's up to something
>Bothering to make Sonic anything when Project Hero exists
Jacob Brooks
Yep. I've had way way more fun playing Mario Romhacks recently than I ever did in SMM.
Levi Harris
Okay, this is epic.
Angel Myers
Post Level Red Flags.
Ryan Flores
Uronically,not an argument.
Jaxon Wilson
can you import models and shit or did they actually make those? everything I saw in the game was just badly made stick figures, if you can import some stuff you can maybe do it
No you can't import any models, everything is made in game
99% of people are terrible 3D modellers so the small numbers of good modellers have to provide assets to the rest of the community, at least until the full game comes out and MM provide a bunch of their own assets too
Jason Gomez
You can import music though right? I saw some level that was just a voice recording.
Bentley Lewis
When the fuck will we get a Zelda maker? It can't be that hard to develop, right?
Jaxon Bell
A level where he gets cucked
Gavin Bell
they do look kind of derpy. And I say this as someone who is obsessed with Super Mario World
Christian Wilson
If Dreams is already out how come no one cares about it?
You can record with any mic that you can plug into a ps4, so anything USB or 3.5mm Not sure if you can import tracks direct from a usb stick or something though
This is probably one of the best characters I've seen from the community so far
All styles are good. They can all be great depending on what you want to create right now.
Although I'd say my least favorite would probably be NSMBU
Kevin Carter
Old project Hero looked better. Retarded dev decided to restart and somehow it now looks worse.
Jose Nguyen
Its in early access and has had no marketing, its got quite a big community now though
Gavin Barnes
Maybe it'll end up with something good if nip autists go at it long enough.
Samuel Clark
same. despite having wall kick and whatnot, it's the least aesthetically pleasing to me
Charles Jenkins
Felt bad for the guy honestly
Brayden Fisher
>SMW's desert theme is actually the mountain theme >SMW bowser is still ugly as sin >SMW luigi for some reason has his all-stars head on mario's body >SMW goombrats also looking ugly as shit how come the objectively best style always gets the worst attention bros
There is a tag for 'themed' levels, seems pretty weird that they would include it when most 'themed' levels were based around playing a different characters.
Jonathan Walker
Fuck yes, it’s finally time for Bit Crusade 3. End of next month can’t come fast enough.
I think it's safe to say that if they have more to announce, this is where they'll be doing it. I'm pretty excited. Remember youtube.com/watch?v=bX1ccFY6XAs ?
Easton Ortiz
ah yes can't wait to spend $800 to remake old Nintendo games (now with even worse muddy graphics and sloppy gameplay) and half-naked girls walking around (until Sony reports my creations). Yes.
David Sanchez
Maybe we haven't seen all the tags yet. SMM1 had a Costume tag on the bookmark site.
Thomas Ross
They should add an "advanced tech" tag or something so kids don't accidentally play and boo difficult stages
Julian Myers
Add Troll and Kaizo tags and everyone will be happy
Justin Green
Does the old site still exist? When I go to it, it just shows Mario Maker 2 stuff
Leo Bailey
ESCAPE THE DUNGEON WITH YOUR DAD one of the first levels i made was a glorified escort mission where you had to make it to the end while keeping a big goomba alive. it was very flawed but people liked it a lot. kotaku played it and i feel dirty that they probably made a couple bucks from youtube revenue. god the original Yea Forums SMM threads were so C O M F Y, how the fuck was that over 3 years ago
Never played the first one, so I'm giving this one a try. My main question is, how do people come up with ideas for fun and creative, yet somewhat challenging stages? I feel like the moment I'll try to do one, it will be the blandest shit ever.
Adrian King
Don’t tempt me with a good time
Jaxson Thompson
people who play the levels ca add tags to it too IIRC plus lots of troll levels have 'troll' in the name anyway
Caleb Ramirez
The Zelda games are in vastly different styles and have vastly different mechanics, will probably never happen. At best you would get a Zelda 1/LttP/Link's Awakening editor.
Noah Gutierrez
sorry if i'm being retarded, but now that i think about it, have we ever seen it moving in the NSMBU style ? maybe when being placed it looks like that but then it actually gets angry once it's moving ?
Jacob King
Pretty sure that's what most people mean with Zelda Maker anyway. It would be fun to see ALTTP items in Zelda 1 and vice versa.
Elijah Nelson
you're probably correct.
Jason Lee
Look at what the old Mario games did for level design for inspiration. You don't need to copy them, but look at how they challenged the player, followed a consistent theme, and introduced new mechanics in a way players could understand.
All I do is pick one gimmick and center the entire level around it. It could be something like a snake-block course where you have to wall-jump off it to progress. Or it could be aesthetic, like trying to create a beach level in the confines of the editor. Then throughout the level, I attempt to come up with variations on that central gimmick, slowly getting more and more challenging and complicated. If I can't come up with a gimmick, I just pop into the editor and start throwing random items together, seeing if I can find a synergy.
Ryder Perez
*defeats you with one click* heh... not bad, kid...
No you don't. You can literally boo it right at the very beginning if you want.
Eli Richardson
...
Jordan Sullivan
Anyone else hyped for Yea Forumseekend mario maker threads? We're gonna be playing through tons of stages together with other Yea Forumsros fucking each other over at any possible moment
Are there even the necessary colors to make it? The answer is still most likely though. For some reason these people really took to the Switch for their crusade. Splatoon 2, Smash Ultimate, and likely SMM2 will see that mentality, yet for some reason, Splatoon, Sm4sh, and SMM did not. Guess trans rights activists didn't like the Wii U.
Noah Cruz
At least that guy was smart enough to break things before everything blew up the way it did
Asher Peterson
The first game bookmark site only let you tag someone else's level if they let you, although the option was enabled by default and a lot of people didn't know or bother to disable it. It's overall better if people only tag their own levels, hopefully accurately.
Ayden Sanders
I guess it was easier to control it with miiverse
Leo Hughes
Bump because the thinly veiled e-celeb thread needs to die instead of this one.
Ian Wood
Based
Which costumes would you want back? Also, some are clearly not coming back. Babymetal for example, what the hell.
SMM had a lot of bizarre costumes. None of the promotional ones would probably make it back but those are the best ones. Shit like Babymetal, Shaun the Sheep, and just Mario driving the Mercedes. If costumes haven't gotten the shaft, I hope we get some more ridiculous promotional costumes.
Matthew Sanders
I just want Shaun back man
Carter Butler
I want the JAMPU girl back
Samuel Nelson
I mainly want the ones like Megaman, Sonic and such back. Because of all the themed stages you could make with them.
Lucas Reed
Reminds me of a Scribblenauts video where they attach a magnet to a car and it actually goes forward. I almost choke that day.
Adam Flores
The fact that Sonic was just a straight up rip of his Sonic 1 sprite always threw me off. Not in a bad way. But seeing his sprite against the Mario 1 backgrounds was pretty nuts. One of those things where if you saw it like 15 years ago in some screenshot, you'd probably just say the person doctored the image.
Aiden Robinson
Mercedes might make it back considering Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had them brought back as unlockables.
Dylan Sanders
I really regret not saving the miiverse drawings people left on my levels.
Xavier Wood
So exactly what would keep costumes from coming back? I'm confused. I can't really find any issues besides the fact it'll be probably hard to discern each player when you play multiplayer in costumes. Obviously copyright shouldn't be the problem when Smash exists.
who fucking cares? the costumes were a bunch of nothing
Carter Reed
I just wish costumes weren't basically replacing the mushroom powerup. It sucks to have a player lose the costume after taking a hit.
I want to just "spawn" people as that costume I picked and then they stay that way for the whole level, you know? I'd also want costumes across multiple styles not just SMB
Jason Thompson
This fucking thing is unsettling and I think I figured out why, it reminds me of those suns on the walls in OOT that you have to shine light on with the mirror shield. If you get it wrong, sometimes it drops a wallmaster on your head.
Ethan Edwards
Fun fact, OG SMW Bowser was actually part of the background (Mode 7). The background is stretched and zoomed to make it look like he's flying towards you.
im going to make easy comfy levels with an airship theme and theres nothing you can do to stop me
Jason Jackson
And you'll probably get way more stars for it than any of us making hard levels
Bentley Thompson
The online multiplayer looks more fun to me than Smash Bros. It's taken them like 10 years to finally put online multiplayer in a Mario Platformer but I'm finally glad it's here
Blake White
How many more years until we get a Mario Party game with full online for the main board mode?
Wyatt Taylor
i hope we can still pick each other up in the NSMBU/3D world styles. i want to fuck people over.
Carter Ortiz
I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the next one
Isaiah Smith
SM3DW is literally tacked on, they couldn't even be assed to integrate the shit into the main game so they made it its own thing...
Bentley Gonzalez
Players are too powerful in the NSMBU style due to that mid-air spin extender thing and walljumping.
Ayden Sanders
God, imagine the potential the multiplayer in Mario 2 has if they really end up putting that style in
Ethan Ramirez
I hope we can still vore each other with the Yoshi
Cameron Martin
Or, get this, they wanted it to be its own thing with its own unique mechanics and assets and doing that would have been impossible if it were limited to the same feel as the main four themes. Why is this even a complaint anyway? Just don't use the theme if you're so opposed to its existence.
>no world builder to place your levels in >limit on verticality, only having vertical sub areas >no koopalings >no giant moving blocks to create the castles/caves from world
I'm disappointed
Henry Anderson
To be fair, I'm okay with not everything working in every single style. I don't care too much about the ability to change the style and have your entire level instantly swap over since I usually have a specific style in mind when I start creating a level anyway.
I'd rather they add unique stuff to styles and give them to us than not have them at all because they don't want to or can't add them retroactively to all other older styles, too.
That said, some things don't make sense. There is no good reason to only have water in the forst theme. Why wouldn't you just let people place liquid as they want to in any style?
Adrian Wood
Would you ever be happy, though? Yeah we didn't get an overworld map maker or vertical levels in the main section.
But we got a ton of other things like basically double the themes due to night mode. We got a story mode. We got 4 player online. We got infinite mario challenge with global rankings depending on how far you get. We got a boo function. We got the ability to only show a small section of the course in the preview picture instead of a complete horizontal view which already gives away some things.
Julian Barnes
>no world builder I don't get this complaint.
Jonathan Butler
By only allowing water in forest stages, a player will know that if the stage coming up is a forest stage, they should expect water. Just like how they can expect the minor differences between the other stage types.
Isaiah Roberts
They could at least port enemies from 3D World to the other themes
We don't even get certain enemies that were in other games, I'm talking about enemies like Fire Bros
Elijah Ramirez
Meh. That's a really weak reasoning imo. I'd rather be able to have small oasis style water puddles in the desert theme, or make simple lake levels with the ground theme and water or whatnot.
In fact I'd rather be able to "place" water than just set the water level. Same with lava desu.
Eli Morgan
Other games had water in other levels, look at NSMBU, they had water in castles and boo houses.
Other mario games did the same thing.
Parker Cooper
>paying $60 to make your own game
Zachary Gomez
Ching chong ping pong.
Sucky sucky sucky wong tong
Ian Murphy
I actually paid $70 for the extra year of NSO.
Jaxson Bell
where the fuck is peach bros
Robert Scott
and that's a good thing
not paying it is for COWARDS
Tyler Kelly
100% they are showing it up in the SMM tournament at E3
Michael Rogers
After the first game, taller levels, overworld and giant moving blocks were the three things I really wanted. Koopalings would be nice, but I'm not really disappointed by their lack of inclusion
Gives a reason to make normal levels and have secret areas to give 1-ups and such.
Levi Edwards
>Not even kidnapped this time She LITERALLY just decided to sit this game out.
Blake Hughes
I like how the Nintendo hour trash people can't be trusted with a copy of the game to show off
Chase Howard
>tfw want the stylus but want to buy the game digitally + the 10 dollar NSO deal what do
EUbro here
Aaron Howard
No kids shitting up my endless Mario, a net positive
Adam Brooks
Are they still doing that? Poor Kit. Krysta always hated his guts. Some videos you could really tell she just wants to tell him to shut the fuck up. He's a good lad.
Lucas Diaz
I'm using my stylus from my wiiu
Jace Sanders
Take note of the level preview, and the actual level map.
If you already have NSO, the new subscription gets tacked onto your original expiration date. I thought it would overwrite my original expiration date, but it literally did just stack right on top of the old one, so now I have a little over a year and a half of NSO left to go. If that does anything to help you with your choice.
Evan Martinez
WiiU and 3DS have a resistive touchscreen. The Switch has a capacitive one.
Owen King
That's... kinda obvious? In what world would they just "overwrite" your sub? People would be outraged.
I'm saying I can't have both, can I? The physical stylus AND the digital game+nso bundle.
Cooper Perry
Boo after first death
Jordan Cook
>kid starts a well made challenging level >dies on first jump >"this is bad! me no likey!" *boos*
Dominic Collins
Quiet you. Ross is a pro, took the cucking like a man and promoted some of his favorite people
Carson Parker
based
Nathan Brown
I'm not in EU, but I thought I heard or read somewhere that the digital special edition would come with a voucher to order the free stylus. That might be JP only or something but I'm not sure.
Leo Rivera
There's less gravity in NSMB night mode so it makes sense using a background that could be either a night sky or imply you are in space.
Daniel Butler
You can get the NSO deal digitally or physically. Just look for or wait for the bundle pre-order to show up where you want to buy it.
Juan Morgan
Becauae theyll outnumber the people who can actually beat it sure
Blake Anderson
Apparently this one. It's a pretty simple little wall jump check but I even placed coin trails to act as guidelines in hopes that could possibly help any less experienced players who'd run into it. Maybe the decision paid off after all. Going for a Pipe World kinda aesthetic also got it some bonus points I assume.
No I'm paying 60 for everyone else to make me a game
Zachary King
Reminder that the game comes with a story mode with over 100 premade levels made by various Nintendo employees
Liam Sanders
Yes and they are all short gimmicky tech demos like "use this conveyer belt to move the P block." or "use Yoshi to set these bob-ombs on fire".
Oliver Richardson
And infinity levels levels by everyone else
Juan Gutierrez
Won't this game cause a schism between 3DW levellers and everyone else?
Kayden Cruz
Probably, but who cares. 3DW is considered an extra theme for a reason. It has to be its own thing for the sake of 3DW's unique features.
Gavin Hernandez
In what way?
Ryan Sanders
Unironically my favorite addition
Chase Davis
Why isn't 12 months version on Best Buy yet? God damn it, I don't trust Amazon to deliver on release day any more.
Hudson Rogers
>collect 10 coins level >make clear pipe traveling around the entire course for 5 minutes >at the end you drop right back in and get sent all the way back, but not before noticing a trail of coins leading to the goal just a bit away to the right >you were meant to jump onto the pipe and run to the end instead >people do that, collect the coins >notice they only have 9 >there's an invisible block with 1 coin back at the beginning
Good because zoomers only care about good graphics so they'll tend towards 3DW and make garbage there
Matthew Walker
What are you top 5 shit level design flags?
>random instadeath pipe/door >lakitu enemy spam >random mobs stacked on each other for no reason >long-ass firebar spam and the cherry on top >mind-numbing boring-ass dragged on boss fights such as killing a giant Bowser with koopa shells throws only
Anthony Williams
They cut it from the 3ds version, but they forgot to make it so Magikoopas can't turn blocks into Mystery Mushrooms, so you could technically get a half broken powerup/
Lincoln Barnes
I keep checking for it on BB every day. I still have plenty of GCU time left. I hope it shows up.
Logan Parker
Honorable mention to starting a level with something that kills you immediately.
Angel Miller
>entire level is just spelling out a word with blocks or coins as you run to the end >level is just one million random enemies spawned on top of each other
those two are 95% of the time made by 8 year old kids so you can't really hate on them too much for it but man.
What I hate >stages you can accidentally ruin by picking up a trampolin you weren't meant to pick up >puzzle level is actually just a "wait for this slow ass enemy to walk for 30 seconds" level >epic auto level where you stand still and watch mario fly around >single screen level that is just a bunch of blocks around the flag with a hole at the top
I don't know why the last example was such a common occurrence. Must be kids too.
That level at 1:45 is the epitome of what I would call "little kid makes his first stage" Has it all.
Parker Phillips
Because 2D > 3D
Bentley Roberts
>level is just a featureless, empty straight line across the entire max-stretched out level
I don't know why people do this.
Jayden Martin
>that dev door on the first level kek
Jace Anderson
Can't really fault the first one. It's very obviously made by a child.
Easton Mitchell
I think they all are.
Jayden Cook
What are those fucked up goombas on the top left, they don't look like the ones from smw
Cameron Walker
The Japanese one seemed like someone just wanted to fuck around with collision. It was kind of amusing to watch Mario spin stuck in one spot like that.
Lincoln Walker
They're not normal goombas forgot the name tho
Grayson Ortiz
I fucking hate the disco sound theme. I hope there's a way to turn them off.
Carson Powell
can't
Xavier Adams
Sound effects were a mistake. Completely out of character for Mario and always overused.
Ryan Miller
and the funny part could added more useful enemies/obstacles/items but no.
Thomas Robinson
Actually I think 3D World has more assets than the other styles. Which makes sense since they can just grab assets from the game and not need to make 3 other sprites.
Joshua Carter
>FARTBUCKET spelled out above you in blocks as you run the featureless path This was a real thing that happened.
Grayson Gonzalez
The 3DW theme has a bunch of extra features, and I've heard it won't have all the features of the other themes, making them incompatible in a way completely unlike the interactivity of the other four themes. When you switch between 3DW and the other themes in the editor, your work gets deleted and you get a blank slate. That's got to cause some sort of separation of the playerbase.
Landon King
Don't really see why. I decide on what theme I want to use before I start making a level. Nothing is stopping me from making multiple levels in every style and SM3DW is no exception.
David Hughes
Okay well I guess now people are going to have to apply some toddler level thought and not just mindlessly switch to or from the theme that's obviously going to erase your work.
Isaac Garcia
>Man they really got some shit planned. Just mountains of games that haven't been detailed, there are no new announcements from Nintendo at E3.
Blake Brooks
I think compatibility between the styles is overrated too. I'm glad they've eliminated that restriction. If it's just 3DW though, seems like a waste. There's no way they aren't announcing SMB2 at E3.
Camden Campbell
sad thing is that SMM2 will probably be flooded with them as well. idc about kids having fun making stupidly levels for them and their family, but why do they upload them ?
I bought the SN30 Pro because I believed in the best d-pad meme. The d-pad is not very good. It is very tall and hard and totally inaccurate on the diagonals. The controller is fine, however. Note: I have already tried using my Dualshock3 because the d-pad is infinitely better, but the input lag gets too high with the 8 Bitdo adapter. Now I bought a contole called Hori Pokken, it's my last attempt to have a decent dpad on the Switch.
In multiplayer they should just make costumes give you the alternate coloration of your character instead of the intended costume, but keep single player the same.
Also, odyssey style costumes would be awesome.
Ryder Barnes
everything is esport with the right button switches.
Cooper Wright
Will this be the return of John F. Numbers?
Parker Brown
I would absolutely love this controller if they'd just made the x, y and a buttons the same size as the others. It's the ine thing dislike about the Saturn controller and they kept it
Owen Allen
Pretty basic underground level, I tried to make a level as legit as possible, no weird gimmicks or puzzles, just a solid level that hopefully feels like it could be found in an actual Mario game.
Probably the one that requires you to get over 100 midair shell jumps.
Lucas Cruz
Do you mean actually hard or "You have a 1/1 billion chance to win it" thing
Kayden Clark
The one that takes the most skill to clear.
Parker Morris
>obnoxious overuse of sound effects >giant hordes of enemies that can only be killed with a hidden star power-up that's hidden in an invisi-block >level that nearly instantly kills you at the start unless you move or do something that might not be obvious >those "pick a door, one leads to the exit, the others kill you" shitfests >auto-scroll set at the slowest setting while barely anything happens
I wish the SMB style had the most sprites since it's easy as fuck to do, even if it was unfair to the other game styles. Here's an example I did just fuckin around for a few minutes. Also I really need that SMB Sky song Kondo did as soon as the game's out.
I did the same and returned it for the same reason. Then got a mayflash n-s and have tested it with a DS4 and there was no difference in latency to a switch pro controller.
Cooper Sanchez
Why do people think this based on nothing?
Isaiah Wilson
I made a few themed levels with DK and diddy, those got a lot of stars even though I focused more on aesthetics than gameplay.
Ryan Ortiz
>did you think they'd let you play rammstein only after the rammstein mystery mushroom costume comes out
Joseph Martin
A man doesn't "take the cucking" that's what a cuck does
Adam Lee
They wanted to add a zelda and metroid pallate to SMM1 iirc, so I could see this happening.
Nolan Rivera
Dreams doesnt look like it'll really be worth getting into until it gets ported to PS5, its just too limited right now.
