I played it a bit on emulator, and it's a really annoying game.
You start with too few lives, so dying is too punishing, you have to restart levels constantly.
The first boss is EXTREMELY difficult and frustrating, and combined with the low life count, you have to spend an eternity trying to beat it. It probably took me at least an hour combined, probably more. And you can't skip cutscenes either, which makes it even more annoying.
The levels are really annoying too. There are bottomless pits everywhere, and it's not intuitive how you control. You end up falling into the bottomless pits all the time, and have to learn every single part of the level to beat it. And there is something really off about when to jump and when not to, which leads to countless deaths and much annoyance.

The music really is great though, can't disagree with that. And I love Blaze.

You're right about the shitty DIMPS level design but the bosses are piss easy dude.

Boostshit is at it's weakest when it's in 2D, and you can't see shit coming like you can in 3D. Bad level design only compounds the issue. I like these games well enough for what they are, but a big problem they have is that one wrong move in what is ultimately a game of Simon Says, and into the pit you go.
