This is by far the worst one. Media franchises milking money by pretending that liking a show or movie or whatever turns everyone who does so into a member of some sort of connected hippie commune. Terrible how people who have lost any meaning in their life cling to vacuous shit like that and truly consider being part of a "fandom" to be what their life revolves around. As if enjoying a show suddenly opens the door to being part of an in-group.
I had a neighboor who dedicated his life to Marvel, to the point where he covered his walls in vintage comics, collected funko pops of his favourite characters, and got a MARVEL tattoo on his arm, as well as several superheroes.
All he wanted to talk about was new marvel or DC movies and also about his favourite streamer. I could feel my IQ dropping just from being in his room.

Your character in Fallout 4 isn't from the past and that was just a matrix-like simulation used to keep you from freaking out while inside of a preservation tank, but you are accidentally released and have to track down your son who isn't actually your son and is just part of the simulation, which you later find out from him. You were actually a prototype human courser from the same time as Kellogg, who use to be your partner, but the institute manipulated your memories in order to make you think he was a bad guy who killed your wife and kidnapped your son so that you would track him down and kill him because he was becoming a problem for the institute's interests

but stories are not true user
they're whatever you want them to be
and in cases where a franchise has been taken over by a soulless company, and they tarnish it just because they want money, you don't need to accept that at all
If I bought the mona lisa and drew a big dick on it, that would the be the new canon mona lisa. But you have a right to not accept these new changes and instead appreciate what it was, or how it should be.

you then find out that you suffered a massive amount of amnesia from a past trauma involving a super mutant outbreak in the institute. The institute then told Kellogg that you were dead, but in reality they just put you in suspended sleep and wiped your memory, creating your "past" life for you, then when Kellogg was becoming a problem, they supplanted the memory that he killed your wife/ husband and kidnapped your son so that you would track him down and kill him for the institute. After you retrieve his brain augmentation and scan his memories you see memories of yourself inside his head which brings back the memories the institute buried and you realize the truth about your past and that the entire life you had known; the one with a wife, child, pre-war house, cryostasis, etc. was all a lie
