So I haven't seen anyone talking about this but I just read that dataminers found 16 extra character slots in the Smash data which confirms that there's going to be more characters besides the Fighters Pass Five, so if your favorite character isn't in this then don't worry, they still have a chance.

That's not exactly true. The developers have no idea what plans Nintendo will settle on for DLC, so they have the overhead in case this game is still getting updates in 2025.
The only info we have confirmed is that Nintendo had to approve the fighters pass characters, and basically they may or may not do anything else since it's pretty much a corporate matter.

Oh. Well Smash is one of the best selling Nintendo games of all time so I think they will end up using all of those slots. 90 seems like a pretty good roster number. 16 is an unusual number so maybe some of them will be free echoes.

I can see them potentially doing another fighter pass to end the games roster at 80 unique fighters. But even that might not happen.

No, I don't think they intend to use all of them, but they also can't fully rule that out. The dev time required probably wouldn't be worth milking the game until its metaphorical udders are sore.
I can say that there are likely plans for other characters, but probably no deals made.

Well, the way I see it, a second fighter pass would be more than enough slots for them to fill out all the characters that people were hoping for in the base game that didn't make it in. Kind of like how they looked at what people wanted in 4, and ended up picking K. Rool and others as a result. The first pass was determined by Nintendo without looking at what people were asking for, this time around they can look online, see what people are saying, see who they're wanting, and put Isaac in the game. Which is also why it's kind of dangerous that people keep bringing up Erdrick and Steve, it gives them the impression that people actually want them. Which they don't.

Fighter pass 2 is going to have assists becoming fighters, Isaac has a 99% chance to be in it and hopefully Waluigi because Camelot and Waluigi fans. I hope this comes true.
BTW, I speculated that there will be two characters in the two placeholder slots of the remaining 10 non-fighter pass slots (My best guesses for them are Rex (+ Pyra) and Nia (+ Dromarch) or Zeke (+ Pandora)).

This would be a pretty nice way to do it because it's three different categories of things different people would be interested in so the people who aren't interested in a certain category can just skip that one, and it would also be a way for Nintendo to test which ones sell the most and cater future Smash games to that crowd.

The pass being third party characters is practically guaranteed. People aren't going to line up to buy a bunch of Nintendo characters that should have been in the base game. It has to be something truly special. Look at the DLC newcomers in 4. The only Nintendo character was Corrin, and she flopped.
