Imagine that you could push a button that would generate an incredible, perfect, mindblowing game every time you pushed it, but after pushing it your consciousness would be trapped in an empty void for 500 million years, unable to sleep or die, with nothing to do but think. After the time is up, your consciousness would return to your body exactly as it was when you pressed the button and all memory of those 500 million years would be completely wiped. Would you push it?

If you could push a button and be transported to a parallel universe paradise to live out the remainder of your natural live adventuring with your waifu, but returning to this world as you left it with no memory of these events, would you do it?
500 million years of suffering for one game.
are you retarded? did you think people would even consider this?
>ruining your life to create a children's toy
Imagine being this retarded
How does it ruin your life? All you do is push a button and out pops a game.
there's no suffering because your memory gets wiped, retard
>suffering for 500 million years just to play a video game
>Ruining your life.
What are you talking about? Just press the button. Here.
Bam. Perfect game. Bam. Perfect game 2. Bam. Perfect game 2: First Strike
It's that simple user.
I have a better idea. Every time I pushed the button it would let be fuck a perfect big tittied girl and get her pregnant.
so then there's no real cost. Why was this thread made again?
you still have to live 500 million years in a void before your mind gets wiped, retard
ignoring the OP's stupid senseless dilemma. would you press the button for a fully functional going into games machine? All functions included, including interacting with NPCs.
And you forget all of it at the end. Free to live the rest of your life as if it never happened.
There is, exactly 500 million years of suffering. However long you live after getting your memory wiped still isn't going to come close to the amount of time you were in the void. Your experience living will have been entirely about suffering minus the 50-70 years you possibly live afterwards.
Takahashi Meijin style!
yeah I read that skyrim doujin so the answer is yes
Fucking post it
does the void have good wifi
>how does getting a permanent trauma ruin your life
Gee I wonder
What fucking trauma? Literally nothing will happen from your perspective because of the memory wipe.
What trauma? You forget everything at the end. So all that happened was you pushed a button and got a perfect game.
Insanity isn't limited to memory.
No physical damage is done either. Your conciousness is transported and eventually you become god.
>this thread again
You do realize that erasing peoples memory to heal psychological trauma isn't new, has been done and didn't succeed.
>hurrdurr I lack the basic understanding of how memory and traumata work
Yeah I don't think being god can be up and forgotten.
Try this.
I put you to sleep with a perfect anesthetic and flay you alive. I then meticulously fuse your skin back to your body in its original position without any error or damage. I then wake you up and as you how your nap was.
Alternatively, I flay you alive as you scream and beg the whole time. I then replace your skin without imperfection or damage, then administer an amnesiac, knocking you out and erasing the experience from your memory. When you become cognizant again, I ask you how your nap was.
These scenarios are identical in terms of the influence on your neurology. Any distinction you conserve is irrational, and any complaint about the premise itself can be solved with the fact that I'm using magic to perform these tasks without error or fault.
Watch the video retards.
It's a magic box. Science doesn't apply here.
Oh yes. Because there has never been a crazy person who repressed the cause of their trauma and continued being crazy without remembering it. Dumb ass.
>. I then meticulously fuse your skin back to your body in its original position without any error or damage.
That would leave scars on the skin.
Why are you commenting despite not even knowing what the thread is referencing, stop being retarded
If you choose to press the button, why not just work your ass off for money? You'll forget the suffering when you die and won't remember a thing after 70 or 80 years. Why are you just sitting around shitposting? Get to work. You won't remember the pain one day after all.
>These scenarios are identical in terms of the influence on your neurology.
This is factually wrong and the reason ketamine isn't used in human surgery anymore.
I assume the premise wipes it from your subconscious too.
Well since I don't believe in magic why would I believe the box works and bother pushing the button?
it does. watch the video. He explains it all
You will just stop perceiving time with no frame of reference such that hours, days or even years will pass in what feels like the blink of an eye. At some point you will just stop thinking completely. You will pretty much shut down mentally, at which point you will also stop perceiving anything consciously
>immediately establish the thread's premise is retarded
>thread goes on because it's now all about just HOW retarded the premise is
I love this
It's 500 million years. You shouldn't be assuming shit and make damn sure.
>dude just suffer for 500 millions years for a videogame lmao
The fucking state of this Reddit faggot's thread right now
Pushing the button essentially created a whole new person. It's like a mirror version of yourself. You sentence someone else to a liferime of pain and misery.
The thread references a stupid Japanese cgi short. You're the only one being retarded here.
I know your type
>Dude, if a tree falls down in a forest, does it make a sound?
Yes
>But dude like
Vibrations make sound, a tree falling would cause vibrations
>Yeah but how would anyone know
Because that's how sound works
>I won't accept your clear cut obvious answer and will give you asinine rebuttals until you agree
>Without damage
Ketamine is not a perfect amnesiac.
Read the whole post next time.
Yet here we are on the thread about said CGI thought experiment
Ok. But like what's the sound of one hand clapping?
We are talking about magic that is unheard of. You are going to have to make assumptions about it no matter what you do. You assume it's gonna fuck you up, I assume it's a full wipe, and would be fine afterwards.
Yeah. Calling it dumb.
Trees aren't real, so they can't make real sounds
No
I'm already enjoying mediocre to poor quality games immensely, anything beyond great would ruin this all for me
>would you have 99.99...% of your life be abject suffering if you forget it for the final 0.0001% and get to play a video game
No
Philosophylets begone.
Damn, that was fucking kino.
Philosophy is literally retards circlejerking about science they can't otherwise understand with their nigger tier IQ.
>Get basic details about experiment wrong and try to argue it
>everyone is dumb but me
This. Trees don't exist anymore. What you think are trees are just bushes and shrubs. The real tress are only dead stumps now, aka what you call mountains.
There would be no science without philosophy. Philosophy gives us reason to advance science in the first place.
>>would you do X that will result in Y and you get Z
>NO WHY WOULD YOU EVER WANT "W" TO HAPPEN TO YOU THATS NOT WORTH Z AT ALL
>>no, only Y will happen to you. like i said.
>NUH UH IDIOT W IS TERRIBLE AND WOULD TOTALLY HAPPEN
You are actually retarded.
You realize that everyone is anonymous and you don't need to try to save face after being proven to be retarded
>thinking W doesn't exist
>here drink this poison it'll give you a video game
>drinking poison will kill me, no
>NUH UH IDIOT I SAID POISON GIVES YOU VIDEO GAMES
Nah, looks like you're the dumb one.
Why wouldn't I?
if i tortured you rn there is no suffering because you'd just die eventually anyway, retard
I'LL GO FOR A BARRAGE
I'm just being retarded on purpose to bump the thread, don't mind me.
If user deletes his post after being retarded was he ever really retarded?
Unironically a decent motivator, I realized something along those lines years ago, and started my own business and took a greater control over my life.
The real question is why the fuck did that little bitch have the button and why is he like an emotionless robot compared to his friends? Does he benefit from when they push it? Why only 1 million yen? Did he press the button himself?
The means is not worth the end, even if you forget it.
That's like breaking my arm over a penny, yes I'll forget about it later but that's not the point.
Not worth it purely just for how long it would take.
My theory is that he gains the knowledge that they accumulate over the eons in exchange for a mere 1 million yen.
>hey bro can stab you in the stomach?
>what the fuck? no way.
>dude you'll forget about it in like 10 years its fine bro
>no fuck off
>COME ON DUDE YOU WILL LITERALLY HAVE NO MEMORY OF IT SO ITS FINE JUST LET ME STAB YOU BRO I'LL GIVE YOU A NICKEL
>bro you can torture infants bro
>it’s totally fine they won’t remember it later so it’s ok :)
>and bro I’m gonna torture you too but it’s ok because when you die you won’t remember it so it’s ok :)
Absolute state of the brainlets on this board
Theoretically, what would happen if this was possible? It's like that Black Mirror episode with the girl being forced to stay in an empty room for 6 months but imagine 500 million years? I would like to think we could eventually stop thinking and meditate but I don't know if that's really possible.
Would appreciate discussion.
Watch the video.
its just the retarded faggot OP
What video
>what would happen if this was possible?
You'd go insane and erasing the memory wouldn't help because of a fucked up subconscious.
But how insane? I would love to hear an audio clip of someone a few million years into the wait.. I'm curious exactly what they could say.
>Would you trade your sanity and time for a videogame?
HURR
Make the consequance a little less worse, retard.
i'd imagine the video (search 500 million year button) isn't too far off besides the whole ascension bit. you'd try to kill time for a while but eventually you'd just cease all action and wait/think
>But how insane?
Non functional vegetable tier insane, like a combination of Kars and Diavolo
Why did this video get posted a few times here lately?
I remember having a thread or two about it around 3 years ago when uchikoshi tweeted about it close to ZTD's release.
Imagine you could push a button and op would stop remaking this thread
Hell no, I can't afford to buy any video games right now.
No but i would probably trick people into pushing it
>eventually you'd just cease all action and wait/think
But that's the thing. Is that possible? Are we really capable of just "waiting and thinking" for 500 million years? There must be huge gaps in between where we absolutely cannot stand still.
>you push the button
>endure 500 millions of years of suffering and madness
>come back to reality, game is there
>its for a system that doesn't exist yet
Tbh i think everyone would simply go insane after a couple months. Afterwards you're not even gonna notice the passing of time because you'd be having one delirious allucination after the other
i'd rather rip my own dick off desu
The money i'd spend on a video of someone in that journey.
Build a machine that keeps pressing the button over and over.
>tfw the game is basically your own delirium given coherency and made interactive
There's nothing to say that this doesn't happen every time you go into deep sleep.
The challenge is getting over the initial fear of the idea and trying not to get addicted to pressing the button
Way to take the metaphor literally, tardinsky.
Unironically this is how I think we got the universe. Oh boy is the rebound gonna be bad.
I'll do it for all of you. I'm tired of loving something so much yet being constantly disappointed by it. Show me this machine.
How long can you stay insane though? 500 million years is a long time to maintain delusion.
You can't prove a negative. See:
This is I believe the third time I've seen this thread now, maybe the fourth.
Post some other philosophical bullshit.
A better way of phrasing it: push a button, and someone else in the world experiences 500 million years of suffering, and then dies. It's functionally the same question.
Not quite. That person would need to have magically been brought into existence, and then die for it to be the same. Nobody actually dies in the original question.
BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM
>doing this for 1 (one) fucking videogame
Still retarded though
Not even close. People on the whole are much less inclined to harm themselves than other people, our survival instincts are built on that premise.
My favorite conspiracy, thanks Jason
If you'd also push it, we'd have two, faggot.
>you will experience 500 million years in limbo
>NUH-UH SOMEONE ELSE WILL
Stop trying to justify this retarded button so damn much.
god that video is really nightmare fuel
feels like something junji ito could write
wich he kinda did with "long dreams"
Yeah but dreams are fucking cool, you can do just as much if not more shit in dreams than in real life.
But with this button, you've got NOTHING.
>implying the world is loaded outside of my field of view and the random news event generator
>i accept the fact that this box can transfer your consciousness in antother dimension that will last 500 milion years and time is stopped in the real world while this happens
>but i can't accept the fact that it can just erase memories like this! it makes no sense!
This idea is most interesting.
During a botched meditation I was taken to a world of utter void that seemed to lay underneath the illusion of our universe.
I can tell you that the realization of the immensity of time comes within seconds, not months. I saw there that I had lived an infinite number of lives and each an infinite amount of times. All just distractions from the fact that there is indeed nothing out there and no explanation as of why I or any of us exist. Felt like the source of a lot of existential dilemmas and the basis for a lot of the more disturbing works of fiction.
Hopefully it's not true, haha.
I don't think you can stop being insane after you do
Gotta love when weirdos and stoners think they got some eureka moment when they just had a 10yo kid's shower thought. Yeah the universe is a machine, the cogs , we're small blah blah
How do I into meditation?
>OP makes a thread proposing the same question and throws a hissy fit any time someone answer with "no."
gettin' really tired of this episode
Why is it always the stupid name of this contraption that gets me the most?
takashi meijin style
I wasn't doing anything special. I just found myself doing it better for no other real reason than a boost of confidence I had at the time.
Sit down, back straight, breathe in, breathe out, in a continuous motion. Don't lose yourself in thoughts, they're all equally unimportant. Remind yourself that all you should be doing is breathing properly at any time you stray. That's it for method.
Read up on shit that might occur during trances, should you enter one, you don't want to get caught off guard, because you could somatize any thoughts that pass through your head.
For a lack of a better way to put this... something might test you during your meditation, very much like when you're trying to do your homework, but something interesting keeps on happening outside.
Only this something is (probably) another part of your own mind that knows you inside out and is just as smart as you are, but seemingly more cunning.
Meditation isn't a toy nor just a 'mindfulness' exercise. I kinda think that you need to be prepared to meet whatever is inside your mind through some sort of discipline embedded in your personality. Then again, the way I felt about it is that nothing could really prepare you for it. Proceed at your own risk.
>ywn have a going into games machine
That’s just easy mode user
>itt people too autistic to take an analogy at face value and have to insert their own irrelevant variables to try and make it believable and miss the point of the thought experiment
>Imagine that you could push a button that would generate an incredible, perfect, mindblowing game every time you pushed it,
What, and have to share it with the casual faggots? Screw that. What's the positive side?
>but after pushing it your consciousness would be trapped in an empty void for 500 million years, unable to sleep or die, with nothing to do but think.
That sounds like it'd be more like torture than any positive side. I dunno, I know the real world can be a shit sometimes but 500 million years is a REALLY long time. Even going 1 year without IRLshit could be a double edged sword.
There is no positive, only downsides. I opt not to press the button.
Now, if there were some positive that'd be worth sacrificing my life on, such as "Clear out the casuals from gaming", then sure, I'd press it. Hell isn't so bad if you know you've managed to spend your life helping people.
>If you could push a button and be transported to a parallel universe paradise to live out the remainder of your natural live adventuring with your waifu, but returning to this world as you left it with no memory of these events, would you do it?
Only if my waifu could press the button as well, and spend a lifetime adventuring with a more ideal version of myself.
I fully believe that guy was speaking the truth and he actually comes from some kind of reality where GIGMs exists. The detail where the game wouldn't even register him as an NPC just made way too much sense.
I want to hear the sound of Susie's ass on my dick
>analogy
OP's question is based off a video and that's what everyone in this thread is referring to, ya dunce.
youtube.com
>not just masturbating during the 500 million years
based retard
Yes user. I know the video. I am saying people are retarded for missing the point of the thought experiment by trying to add irrelevant variables thus making a mess of the topic. Such as suggesting it must be causing some kind of subconscious trauma because amnesia doesn't always erase traumatic events. When the point of the video is to just assume the entire experience is wiped from your mind as if it never happened.
It's time for the.... RAPID FIRE BUTTON PRESS
you have no idea how long a time 500 million years is
you probably get bored to death waiting for your hot pockets in the microwave
I never understood this one. By definition clapping requires two hands. One hand clapping isnt clapping. It makes no sound.
Are you a literal retard?
It's a metaphor for "if something happens but there isn't a living being to perceive it, has it actually happened? Even though the aftermath is observable, there can't be any proof of it all not being simply arranged to look like that something really happened."
Think for a moment before you open your whore mouth next time, autismo.
I would pick that option without a doubt. You see, I have perfected a technique that has allowed me to effectively "skip" years of my life in the blink of an eye. I mean, I could even "teleport" myself to my deathbed right now, if I wanted to. So in retrospect, 500 million years is not such a long time, if I take the neccesary steps to undertake such a journey.
waiter my pasta has gotten really stale
>500 000 000 years
>182 500 000 000 days
>4 380 000 000 000 hours
>262 800 000 000 000 minutes
>all of this doing nothing
>for a SINGLE video game
go on, press it
>respressing is the same as literally wiping it from your consciousness, unconscious included
i agree that there is more to all this than what we could possibly understand within our lifetime, but just go with the thread, you autists
I would press the button if i don't get my memory wiped. If i'm given 500 million years to think, and get my consciousness transported back to my body, it means i know everything, but still keep all my human desires. In this situation i either live a perfect life, or if immortality is achievable with natures laws i become an all-knowing god.
sorry for the autism
>would you press the button for a fully functional going into games machine?
This depends entirely if the stat increases I experience while I'm in the games carry into IRL.
Even as a dumbshit muggle, it's possible to buff your stats like Strength, Health, Dexterity, Intelligence, Luck, Wisdom, Speed and others if you're cautious about how you set it up and you don't try anything risky.
Even if you assume that magic and sci-fi stuff don't work IRL (and I assume they won't), you can at the very least make yourself a hard to kill supergenius, and that'll give you some good chances of making a positive change on the world.
>have going into games machine
>return to irl
I entered this thread looking for this extremely retarded post
I'm happy now, bye
Well you have to come out to switch the game if you want to jump into another game
>If i'm given 500 million years to think, and get my consciousness transported back to my body, it means i know everything
That's not how learning works user
that is the only acceptable reason and thus you should not care about keeping game gains irl
I'd wrap my hand around your testicles and squeeze like a vice, forcing you to press the button for me, dozens of times, fag OP.
while the 500 million years with no memory of it is safe and sound to me, the video game that suddenly pops into existence would break the law of conservation of matter and due to no history or documentation existing of the developers it would likely result in the button and anyone who pressed it to be gathered up by the cia or some shit.
