ps3 still makes a huge amount of money in Latin America and other 3rd world places. Partly because of the no subscription payment for online play.
As long as it makes money they will likely keep it up although I suspect the time when it does close will creep up on us.

Yhy would that stop you from installing? If you're talking about patches for physical games, I doubt that will go down in a foreseeable future. It works independently from PSN and you don't even need an account.

And this is why I have an Xbox. 100% free cloud storage which includes backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 and now even original Xbox games. All digital downloads are stored in the cloud for me free of charge, and I can keep them on my hard drive if I desire. Also, I can literally stop paying for Xbox Live and the games are still stored for me and accessible.

PS3 store was great early on (before web store existed) but it's pretty much unusable now, might as well be removed.
I don't disagree with you, I use the web store for the most part on the rare occasion I purchase anything anymore (Last thing I really bought was ps+, before that was MHW), but it's still a good thing to note that sony kept the PSP store open even after they removed the ability to purchase titles. It sets a good precedent for the future of their online services.
