This. She's always been shown to be ruthless to her enemies and willing to do anything to get what she wants. Combine that with all the events of the last two seasons (her lover has a stronger claim than her, two of her dragon children are dead, her oldest advisor is dead, her only girl friend is dead, her inner circle is plotting to replace her with Jon) and it makes a lot of sense for her to decide that ruling through fear and bloodshed is her only option, even if it was a bit rushed.

There's a lot of great shows that have shitty endings or some shitty last few seasons, doesn't mean they weren't worth watching. Seasons 1-4 of GoT is still probably the best television I've watched and I'd still definitely recommend you watch them.

The Emperor in 4-6 is a simple character: He's a more powerful Sith that desires galactic domination, as well as the destruction of the Jedi.

His characterization is not impressive because he narratively exists as a manifestation of the evil of the empire, as Vader's master.

Giving him a backstory in 1-3 did not change the Emperor's motivations in the slightest. It simply explained how he put Vader and the Republic under his thumb.

the emperor is the embodiment of the dark side and the empire. he was more of a force of nature than a real character. he didn't receive much characterization because simply put, he was the will of the dark side itself, the madness that had been haunting both vader and luke to an extent. darth vader tossing him in the pit was metaphorical, that is when darth vader cast aside the darkness within his heart (like pottery etc). the scene also acted as a metaphor of empire itself falling to its own hubris. there was a lot of subtle movie magic that made his appearance and death feel way more satisfying.

meanwhile in rian penis' film, they give us snoke, who's like a guy in a robe with strange motives, and then he dies because he wasn't paying attention to the weapon pointed right at his vital organs
