It's Street Fighter style because CyGames wants to kill SF and buy Capcom.

There's some really weird decisions though that won't really be figured out until we actually get to fuck with it during the beta. Like, they made all these casual choices but then made those casual choices objectively the worst possible option.
One button specials and supers - but they have massive cooldowns that don't exist for manual inputs.
One button block and dodge - but you don't get access to instant/just frame blocks, tech throws will always be late tech, doesn't auto-block cross ups, might not switch between high and low, and don't have access to animation cancels with dodge.

Plus they're including shit like universal overheads combined with overheads being invulnerable to throws. They've got old school invincible backdashes. There's no comeback mechanics.

So it's weird.

Universal means everyone has one.
Overheads are attacks that come from above the head. They're used on people crouch blocking. Depending on the game and character they'll hit low attacks as well because hitboxes and aerial.
Being throw invulnerable means that they can't throw you out of it from block state and have to commit to a button like jab.

Good thing those go pretty hand in hand with Granblue.

Game's servers went down for half an hour. When they managed to fix it, the game lasted a few minutes and then WENT DOWN AGAIN for like a full hour. They implemented a new system for summon supports and apparently it caused issues due to too many people playing GW, the new system was probably not designed for peak hours (like Magnafest, GW, RoTB)

If Soriz gets in then that would be the fist fighting rekka character. Or if Nicholas got in that would fill for something like Ibuki, Guy, or Zeku.

Everyone is sick of rushdown with comebacks. It makes the game more exciting to watch for casual spectators, but ruins the game for players and people who know the game.
Defensive options make for legendary matches. There's a reason why the Daigo parry is still the go to moment to show off for fighting games.

I'm not sure that is true from a casual perspective. What they like is explosive moments in matches, but slower games with more obvious decision making is easier for them to follow. Though really 90% of if something gets views is down to branding and having notable players.

That being said I'm not sure GBV will be all that defensive. It has a decent enough range of defensive mechanics but it remains to be seen if you can easily keep people at that mid range easily. Like Gran's character profile mentioned he is also rushdown along with some other things, so overall I can see the game still favouring more offensive play. You even get meter for moving forward so it is a pretty clear sign of where they want you to go.

My #1 bet is on a Sturm/Drang duo character.

Then they've already fucked that up immensely since there's no SF2 in anything they've shown. It's mostly been SF4 with a dash of SF3. The push back is SF4 tier and the speed of the game is SF4ish.

That's the one thing you have to remember. Fan favorites will probably make it in eventually, but they're going to choose based on functionality first. Again, pointing to Ladiva, the character list of GranBlue doesn't have that many characters that could fill the grappler roll. We already have Gran, so they can't put in Luchador yet. Ladiva has the pro wrestler motif and can be the grappler that does shit like lariats and SPDs.

With just frame block and parries, along with cooldowns, they're building in systems to slow the game down. Invincible reversals usually force more thoughtful commitment overall as skills rise.

All you get meter for approaching, hitting, successful throw tech, and instant blocking. They're basically using the Under Night grid system but applying it straight to meter instead of the grid.

The first arc (out of now, 3) is the ultra generic JRPG plot: generic boy (or girl) meets generic girl who has a generic strange power and is being hunted down by generic evil empire you beat the generic evil empire at the end of that arc. After that the next arc starts being a little bit closer to the old Matsuno FF with political shit happening because of the power vacuum you left by beating the empire and with people trying to out-keikaku each other with schemes spanning over dozens of years.

To be fair, where Cygames fucked up here isn't meter gain. The fuck up was EX skills not costing bar.

The inputs seem to work like ryu and ken in smash.
They can do regular inputs for stronger moves but have the normal smash bros inputs for the same moves too.
Casuals didn't mind that, I think some pro players who play ryu/ken that can't do DP motions just use the special button in that game, I think it's a great way to casualize the game without pissing off veterans.

All the characters have their original outfit of their first version, even the weapons are not in their final uncap form.

There are some ( quite a bit actually ) SR characters that are still viable in a team , because they have great skill , or solid stats. It's better to have a Sr characters that match your team than to put a SSR that doesn't.
