The threads probably going to be gone soon but I wanted to know is this a good game? I'm thinking of buying it.

Good lad, building organic little settlements instead of commie shit.
I like you senpai.

It's really good, a little old now (given that it was in early access for a long time). Mods help a lot.

Yes its a great colony builder, i can hang around and keep it alive if you have specifics?

What are some "must have" mods?

hospitality
camera+
natures pretty sweet
real ruins
replace stuff
share the load
trading spot

some of the really good ones off the top of my head

Praise jesus

Im a pretty big fan of making nice flowing bases or hive style bases as well

Cultist mod I would say isn't a must have but once you want to try some very interesting stuff and play a mod thats pretty well developed I'd give the cultist modpacks a shot

This was my base from 1.0 release. Shit was getting crazy by the end but I was able to take off without too much dramas. My base was getting way too full.

Is modding NEEDED for new players? Or could I just jump right in?

Is windpower actually reliable if you have enough? I only make those when I got some empty land by farm plot areas

Just jump in and enjoy your first time. Look at mods later.

You can jump in. Once you get a feel for it, download mods.
Windpower is underrated, use in tandem with solar so you're still getting some power at night

I'd Jump in without mods for at least 1 playthrough or after you have done most of whats offered in vanilla. theres def Some really good quality of life mods that I wouldnt say change the game but just make it easier but I would avoid them for at least a couple of games. Tons of content in vanilla to mess with. I put in around 200 hours before trying out mods.

no play it vanilla first.

finally not a reused img

How is wind power in the mountain gullies / area surrounded by mountains?

What a range of lights you have there

Bout to load up a new game what theme do i go for?

Rimworld of magic
or
Sole survivor vampire with medbay of raiders/food

I stopped playing when I finally managed to make a completely impenetrable mountain base. I felt like I accomplished all there was to accomplish.

These quality of life mods. I feel like they're the only "obligatory" ones and all the other mods are up to personal preference.
>Allow Tool
>Defensive Positions
>Colony Manager

How do you make use of colony manager?
I've tried adding it in a few times, but I felt like it was all pointless stuff that either I'd never need like the auto hunt or random ass tree cutting.

manager is definitely not obligatory.
makes things a little easier when you farm chickens or fast producing animals as it auto culls males or at pop limits.
Other than auto hunt to keep up on lavish meals / tree cutting to stock up your art bench/auto gather ambrosia, it's not really that useful.

rimjobworld

I'm trying to do a medieval run after not playing for a long time. My guys keep going crazy and I can't get enough food. I suck though. Any tips?

Just play DF instead. It's free, has z-levels and more content.

Hygiene is great as it also adds water management to the game.

just build massive food plots of rice
it spoils after 40 days almost a year

Boy it smells of base builder difficulty in here

I read there was a beta branch of Rimworld out that helped cut mod load times. Has anyone tried it out yet?
