eh, i'm over the battle mechanics of total war games, and CA never manages to create an interesting strategy game out of the world map so half the game is extremely boring

Shilling garbage aside, the youtube videos arent looking good for battles. The combat looks really bad, and duels fuck up charges and create bubbles that armies have a hard time passing through. I sorta like the campaign map, but historical mode looks like romance mode without features. And of course the AI is always bad, ive already seen generals charging into spears from the front. if they can flank in warhammer why the FUCK cant they flank in any historical game? Meanwhile its spearmanii the game without any bravery (like warring states or something). Will let it ride and get it during summer sale if /vg/twg reviews it positively for a while.

Play Warhammer then, not this bullshit

Kinda. The campaign map not being a fucking shallow "Click End Turn" simulator whose only purpose is to have your units plodding around sounds very nice.

I hope the battles are fun, the sieges will atleast be better than Warhammer, but I am not sold on Duels and they seem to have had a ton of weird bullshit like explosive arrows.

I like the diplomacy stuff, the supply lines mechanic, the whole shared spy recruitment pool and all the things that enables when you can embed your spies into another faction's hierarchy.

This. I'm gonna pirate the game just in case it ends up okay. But Warhammer is where its at.

>never got into strategy
>picked up Civ5, finished on next to the last difficulty on mara+Huge map
I think Civ is a bit too simplistic in it's gameplay for my taste, I've heard Total War is something like Civ but more engaging. Is it true and which one is considered to be the best?

the overworld is a shit version of civ
otherwise the battles are actually fought in an RTS format

paradox games are what you want if you're looking for world strategy

Once you get past the early game Total War becomes a joke in difficulty and ranges from sometimes fun fights to slogs of just winning against broken lands.

It is nothing like civ, civ is 4x while total war is a hybrid between grand strat and rts, go play julii in Rome 1 then work your way up from there, paradox have more in depth campaign mechanics yes but they're spreadsheet sims with 300$ worth of dlc and no battles

The romance mode intrigues me.

Nope.

Liu Bei is a shit leader and everyone that picks him should feel bad.

Looks really pretty, and the diplomancy aspect is easily the best of any total war game. As long as the gameplay is servicable should be fine.

I was hoping we'd get another Shogun 2, and while it does have nice more like paradox diplomacy it still looks pretty bad and the battles especially look surprising shit from the few hours I've watched. no buy

>Not automatically choosing based Zhuge Liang

The only Chinaman who really understood what the fuck was going on.

How do I into the combat in these games? I just auto resolve in Shogun all the time

Its partly to do w role play, the actual commanding isn't too challenging unless it's some awesome battle where you win 10 to 1 against the odds, thems rare though, I love watching the battles though

its literally rock paper scissors. even more so than ever in 3 kingdoms. not at all difficult unless you're against some min maxing cheese lord in multiplayer

Shogun is different than the later TW games. Mainly the combat of Shogun is rock, paper, scissors.

Spears > Cav
Cav > Swords
Swords > Spears

Bow/Matchlock units are used for initial engage and the whittling down of the enemy reserves from your own back lines. Never fire your arrows into the front lines as it encourages friendly fire.

If you want to nigger the computer really hard, get Kisho Ninja units, keep them hidden, draw a front line with only shitty Yari Spear units, and then have your Kisho toss bombs into the front line. Typically the computer will always charge in with their veteran units, so you can easily pick them off with Kisho bombs early on.

Pic Related: The current legendary difficulty game that I'm in. I've made the Hojo recruit a holy army of monk warriors. I find that the legendary units come too late for the end-game to really matter.

Nah, after Warhammer I only pirate their stuff. Maybe I will pirate that too.

Once it's fully modded into dynasty warriors it will be the best total war game.

If this really does happen, then I'm in.

I've heard you can actually import models this time around. I look forward to my anime wars.
