Why did Yoko Shimomura pick a mainline FF game to make her weakest soundtrack?

unironically the OST is God tier. Unlike the game.

The majority of the soundtrack wasn't her doing though, she's only credited in all songs because of the VersusXIII bandwagon

no, she composed most of the songs.

bait
OST is pretty godlike, the problem is that its so clear that parts of it was made for different games/made for gameplay that was changed or cut

Some of the best tracks in the game don't really get played or interrupted often because of the game system working against it to the point where outside of combat, there are times where the game just stops playing its music

Imagine a featuring between Nobuo and Yoko on the same music. It would be like when two pop/rap artists do a featuring, but with Yoko and Nobuo composing a music.

Unironically tabatas fault

Attached: nomura and tabata.jpg (1714x1991, 487K)

even if you really like it. It's weak as hell compared to most other stuff she's done. Even fucking Heroes on Mana on the DS had a better soundtrack.

Her arrangements in ff15 were better than her arrangements in KH3.

Some of the songs that should sound orchestral decided to pull on nostalgic heartstrings and use what I can only describe as PS2 midi tossed into a blender. It's just like MH World's ost turns to midi shit after the jungle starting zone.

Arrangement can make all the difference for a composition, and unfortunately, FF15 was the last time she did it well.

Tabata sounds like one of those fodder hollywood directors

But XV has a great OST

Only 5 tracks from XV were solely arranged by Shimomura. The rest were either herself and some other dude, or fully done by someone else.

Why did FFXIII and XIV have the best FF OSTs, despite being the worst FF games?

Why couldn't FFXV have a soundtrack as godtier as FF13?

FFXIII has a good ost, not the best but still good.
As for FFXIV i hope to god you're talking about 1.0 or else your opinion is utter trash.

Who said she picked it?

None of that shit sounds good. It sounds like a cacophony, actually. Is this your babyfirst choirs tracks or what? Composition has no leitmotiv to it, no logic, it's soulless. FFXIII's OST is forgettable as fuck, heck I didn't even bother to download it, which was unthikable to me with how highly I regarded FF's music back then. Okay, its main theme had some soul put into it, I'll admit, and I liked its use.

>Still liking Nobuo "phone ringtone" Uematsu

>being an actual Sokenfag
I swear to god you people are just contrarians. Soken isn't even in the top 10 in terms of Square composers.

>I'm going to throw out a bunch of Yea Forumssic terms without understanding what they mean
The music in FFXIII is using very obvious motifs, taken directly from famous styles of music and composers. Specifically Paganini, Puccini and Holst. While still putting the composers own unique style on it. And that's just for the orchestrated music. It then goes on to blend orchestration with synth. Some of the best out there.

> nomura actually listens to music tabata just a-okayed everything
Nomuras only like 3 years Tabatas junior why is Tabata such an old man

> Composition has no leitmotiv to it, no logic, it's soulless
HEY GUYS I JUST LEARNED WHAT LEITMOTIF IS AND I'M GONNA ACT LIKE ITS AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY FOR GOOD COMPOSITION SO I CAN LOOK SMART!

>Tries too sound smart only to sound like an uneducated retard.

nah i just hate uematsu and still wonder why they hire that old fuck.

Probably hated the game about as much as everyone else who worked on it besides that faggot Nomura.

lol

What's wrong with Uemetsu

Ah shit, someone actually got the lyrics for the Bhunivelze song? I always thought it was just ominous-sounding nonsense.

nothing about ff13 or 15 is memorable other than the way they kill that little spark of hope in your chest that you would one day feel the same way you did when you started playing ff9. their ost's are irrelevant becaues the games are unplayable trash.

nothing, he's a retard on Yea Forums that enjoys acquiring (You)s.

XIII-2 > XIII.

FF songs usually Latin, don't they? They haven't gotten into to the whole gibberish language like Kajiura and MONACA.

embarassing post 3bh

Back when FF1 was being made, they just hired whoever they could find. One of the producers in Squaresoft knew Uematsu, who went through the same university course Sugiyama did (the composer for Dragon Quest). And since Final Fantasy was already modeling itself off of Dragon Quest, they used him. Basically, they wanted their own Sugiyama.

What they got was someone who had a unique sound. And became a bigger selling point for the games than the art design or story. Like him or hate him, Uematsu has a unique sound. I personally think he's a master at pulling every ounce out of a synthesizer. But when it comes to orchestrated compositions, he's hit or miss (more miss). Funny enough, the best orchestrated versions of his music were arranged by Sugiyama.

you're a fucking retard. Uematsu was already working for Square before FF.

Peak Shimomura is 1992 (all of Street Fighter II except one track and Wily Stage from MM5) to 2000 (Legend of Mana). Past that is a much more maudlin sound that too focused on violins the last ten years in particular.

Why do people think this OST is weak?

People just really like to shit on ffxv

I'm not arguing she can't do nice stuff outside of those parameters, just that it was her best streak. Anyway, I believe LoM is still her best work and KH1 ushered in a more inconsistent 'Silver Age' for her. She's still good, just not AS good.
