Strange Journey Redux is probably the shorter of the two, if you're low on time. There's plot, but it's not to an overwhelming degree. With SJ, you can simply pause the game and hop right back to dungeon crawling.

Playing Strange Journey for the first time. It's... interesting. Not sure I like the demon coop thing - press turn is much more engaging. Plus, am I seriously not gonna use like 2/3 of the demons because of the alignment affecting demon coop? Jesus christ, how horrible.

How is it short?
I have clocked in 53 hours into Redux right now and I am not even.at the second to last sector.

Don't go in with much expectations, the game doesn't live up to DDS1, at least that way you will leave feeling "That wasn't as bad as that user told me"

Demon Co-op barely matters after the beginning portions of the game, unless you play Redux you don't have to focus on it.

Fuck, I don't think I have the motivation for this. If I remember right, I never even had a demon with debilitate. I only got so far by exploiting weaknesses constantly.

Honestly when you get down to it gameplay-wise they're all just fairly decent dungeon crawlers made on a shoestring budget with reused assets everywhere. But the series has so much charm and love put into it it's hard not to enjoy it. Even Persona, regardless of opinion at least it pays the bills for the series.

God, the Fiends were so broken in Nocturne. They're immune to most ailment effects, Death, and had powerful skills to boot. What broken demons. If we do get a Nocturne remake, I hope they make them late game demons. Put them around the 60 to 80 level region so you can't abuse them early in the game.
