Celshaded, with a eurobeat soundtrack, and a 6 hour campaign that you cant save. That way it relies on old school skills of memorization to finally beat the game in one go.

Adventure 3 that is just a fusion of 2 and Heroes. And if it's a dream game, it has to have 5 times more levels playable with all characters and an infinitely replayable chao garden

Generations with more competent developers with more time and money and mania physics/drop dash for the 2d levels.

A sequel to adventure 2
I actually like the emerald hunts and mech levels.
I like the chao garden
And the sonic/shadow levels were pretty fun
Jank and all, Adventure 2 remains my favorite sonic game to this day

Sonic Mania 2 with the playable characters from 1 + Amy.
Knuckles back to his original 3K glory instead of the nerfed landing form he has now
Insta-shield unlocked from the start with the power to deflect projectiles.
11 new original levels + Chrome Gadget as a remixed level.
Puyo Puyo and Blue Sphere as minigames
The bonus games from 3K all return.
Sonic goes back to his 3K design.
2-player online co-op but without it being split-screen and with the players being able to move beyond each other's screen.

Focus on combat and plataforming with some heavily scripted fast sections but ones that are actual y cool not Just making Sonic to through a loop because thats what people remember
Combat is arena like with bosses who have missiles and arena atacks you hace to dodge
You get to Play with blacksonic with a fin and tails too

A game that's just a designer that lets people easily make Sonic levels so that we could forget Sonic Team even exists. At this point, it would be preferable to having to rely on them.

Sonic Adventure 2's engine, get rid of the fire roll, first game cutscene all friend characters get cancer and die; game has no other cutscenes and no boss battles. End level object is animal container and plays generic end level tune. Final battle shows shadow running up to you, but then he gets cancer and dies. Roll credits.

A game that finally brings back Cream the rabbit after being excluded from the mainline series, the spin-offs and a fucking racing game with TEAM ROSE on it.

Anything that remembers what the series was originally all about before it turned into an amorphous blob of whatever Sonic Team thinks will appeal to the widest audience at the time. That is to say, momentum based physics, level design that complements it, surreal environments instead of realistic ones, and less emphasis on story, for a fucking start. And don't let anyone currently in charge at Sonic Team anywhere near it. They've long since forgotten what the series should be about and are just in it for a paycheck now.

Can we not though? They already tried the Adventure formula like three times and it never really worked out. Iizuka is actually right for once about this. (For what I can only assume are the wrong reasons, of course, but still.) It would be a total step backwards. A small one, you could argue, but a step back nonetheless. Budget Sonic isn't great, but at least you're not getting bogged down by three to six different gameplay styles, and up until Forces reared its ugly head, we weren't bombarded with an endless stream of cringe inducing cutscenes from a hamfisted and completely tone deaf story. Don't let your nostalgia blind you, kids.

Sure you could say that, but you know what? At least the Classic games backed it up with real tangible quality that the majority of people agree on. Can you honestly say the same about the Adventure games? Because from where I'm standing, the general consensus on them seems to be "mixed", at absolute best. It can't just be all nostalgia. And yeah, I realize that could apply to the Adventure games too. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy SOME parts of SA1 and 2, but the high points are drowned out by the lows. Again, there is a reason why they stopped making those types of Sonic games. They clearly just didn't work on a fundamental level.

What you're missing is that all the 3d Sonic games had a glaring flaw that made them garbage specifically. 06 and Unleashed stand out specifically, because all the potential in the world was there, but tossed away for gimmick. If unleashed hadn't had the transformation nonsense it would have been the start of a new series of 3d games for sure. There are so many things done right, especially in Unleashed, the only way to make that game bad was to add terrible gameplay, which the werehog segments absolutely did. The suits just keep polluting the formula.

The problem with the boost games is that Sonic runs so fast in them, that you could clear a game that has nothing but regular boost gameplay in about 2 hours or less
That might work for a budget release like Mania, but not for a AAA game that costs $60, hence the need for gimmicks that stretch the game's length
Honestly, boost is just incredibly cost-ineffective in general

For stretches, I think it's fine. They just need a way of redirection, like using homing jumps to solve platforming puzzles/beat enemies. Going fast is supposed to be the point. I'd also love the bosses to amount to battle race tracks.

Anyone who seriously wants a """Sonic Adventure 3""" is a dumbass. I just want Sonic to be a good 3D platformer. I don't care if it's 1:1 classic Sonic physics. I just want them to make Sonic as a good 3D platformer with a concept that can carry a whole game. Lost World could've been good, but it had some shitty execution throughout.

Sonic generations boost engine not that restricted colors or forces boost engine. Make an entire game focused on it. No added gimmicks (werehog) or another mandatory gameplay style (classic).

That's all I've ever asked for and they can't fucking do it. You don't even have to make the other characters that different. Tails flies, Knuckles climbs and glides, Amy hammers, etc, just do it.

3D open world sonic game playing to Sonic's strengths, would play out a lot like Spiderman PS4. Travelling, navigation, and movement is super fun and interesting, the entire world is an obstacle course, and you use it to travel between more structured levels. Fast travel exists but just going somewhere is fun enough to make you never use it. Your speed has no limits other than your own skill to maintain it. If you reach a certain speed, it even has a little sonic boom effect, and at that speed you can run over water.
The world would generally be pretty creative in design and not focus on a more realistic world like BotW. There would be a section of the map which is just grasslands, a more mountainous section, a city, a casino, an ocean, angel island, etc.
I would also enjoy the partner system from Sonic Advance 3 but I'm not sure if that could work with an open world designed specifically for Sonic's moveset.
