>stealth game that incentivizes not being seen and taking out enemies quietly
>halfway through introduce enemies that can only be reliably eliminated by blowing them to kingdom come
I was actually enjoying the game even though the story and characters were shit
Dishonored 2

I played through all of Dishonored 2 in four different occasions and I don't remember the enemies you're referring to. Who did you have to blow up?
What?
>he has to take out enemies
You don't mean the skelly-doggos, do you?
do you mean the robutts
the story and characters being shit is what stopped me from enjoying the game. If I'm not immersed in an immersive sim I ain't gonna play it even if it has the best gameplay in a vidya ever
Jindoshes robots, I think?
Oh, yeah, you can just turn them against the enemies but that doesn't work if you want to go full bloodless.
You can also just stab them from the top twice. They don't actually fully detect you after you drop-stab them once since you rip their head off. They can only hear at that point. Cool enemies.
The story and characters are good compared to other “immersive sims” faggot
Except they're not, especially compared to the first game you inbred
Name some “”””immersive sims”””” wuth better story and characters then.
Try not to mention the first Bioshock.
I already did. Dishonored 1 and its DLCs, a bunch of which D2 ruins btw.
So you have only played one game in the genre? Lmao retard
>stealth game
nice meme
its not a stealth game
No, you asked for a better immersive sim, I mentioned one. The fact your brain can't comprehend that tells me enough
>playing dishonored stealthily
They're worse compared to the first one. I'd also say PREY is better if only because that one doesn't ruin what came before it (Prey 2006 and Prey 2 being pretty much different franchises) and it was also directed by the better D1 director of the two, and it shows.
>durr autistic me cannot play immersive sims with bad characters and stories!
So you can’t play many of them you drooling retarded nigger
>me cannot play immersive sims with bad characters and stories!
Exactly. At least you recognize D2 has a bad storyline and characterization. Have a nice day.
That one also has a bad story and characters.
Literally git gud and sneak around them. I love the series but blink alone makes it easy as piss to ghost non-lethal.
I play stealth unless I'm forced to kill and even then, I only kill bad guys AND THOSE FUCKING RAT/BLOODFLIES INFECTEDS AAAAAAAAH GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME
>>stealth game that incentivizes not being seen and taking out enemies quietly
wrong, you mean do whatever the fuck you want game that incentivizes hitting your sword against a wall and instakilling every guard in the surrounding 3 city blocks as they come running round the corner one by one
Bad compared to the first game, good compared to the genre. Have a shitty day you smelly cunt.
Explain how so and I'll probably explain to you how you're wrong
>caring about story in a game like this
Dishonored 3 when?
Probably never, their games have been flopping lately
>not caring about story in a game like this
Maybe it was me missing a lot of stuff but outside of the outsider giving me magic powers he sure didnt mean a whole lot in the first game.
Delilah was reused for nothing
Billie is unsufferable.
The hub between level (a boat) is pathetic compared to the first game's
Less stakes than the first game because your loved one isn't killed before your eyes, just petrified, so "all" you have to do is reclaim your throne, which for some reason is hard when public opinion should clearly be on your side seeing as the witches are all insane. I don't really feel "Dishonored" when the one claiming I'm a traitor couldn't fool a five-year-old into thinking she's telling the truth
Outsider is basically your bro now instead of the shady non-human *thing*, make you wonder why he even gave power to Delilah
The subtelty of the Heart in D1 being the Empress is lost
None of the non-lethal target takedown felt satisfying except the one with the witch
Daud not included as a playable character in the DLC because they just knew no one would pick Billie if he was
how hard is nonlethal assault without powers
Wat
You realize you're agreeing with me? I dislike D2
>Doom 2016 runs magnificently on my rig from 2014
>Dishonored 2 runs like ass
Shame, one of the main reasons I loved the first one was the great optimization of the port.
>Name some “”””immersive sims”””” wuth better story and characters then.
>Try not to mention the first Bioshock.
Bioshock isn't an immersive sim, it's a corridor FPS.
Its story is also atrocious.
The Dishonored franchise is on hiatus, in the same way a teenage girls favorite boy band is "on hiatus" when the members start hitting ~30.
you have brain damage
>Doom 2016 runs magnificently on my rig from 2014
>Dishonored 2 runs like ass
Doom 2016 is a very unambitious game tech-wise
>max limit of 12 enemies at a time
>dead bodies instantly disappear
>combat takes place in enclosed arenas, literally locking the rest of the game world away
And it still managed to look like shit, which is quite an achievement
Ah well, I feel foolish
>can't disable robot enemies
>had to use mines
at least you got to finally use lethal weapons, luckily they don't count towards your kill count
og Doom is brown and red
>get to rescue Daud
>hell yeah, now it's going to be couple of interesting missions with two mark users
>he just sits in boat
>dies
Cringe
everything about that is minor complain at best, the gameplay and level design improvements make it up for that.
It's ok, maybe other anons will start to see why D2 is so bad in the story department compared to 1
The Bank Level in Death of the Outsider is the best level in Dishonored history. Fight me.
>not caring about immersion in an immersive sim, whose defining trait is player choice and the interactive universe the player does said choices in
Do you not care about the story in Deus Ex? Fag
Oh yeah, it's still good, but it's a shame that you sorta have to bear the story while playing.
How is BioShock's story bad
>Do you not care about the story in Deus Ex
Not really no? Go read a book and have sex.
wrong, it's A Crack in the Slab
it's full of holes
>Not really no?
Then go play another genre, you're objectively in the wrong here.
>have sex.
Ah, so it is bait. See you around.
Based. Probably the only use of time travel in a video game that I ever enjoyed. I fucking hate time travel as a plot device.
i mean, the story was shit but damn if the powers and levels were some GOOD shit.
the fact that you can rob the black market if you find the way to do so is pretty damn well executed
bloodflies nests have some genius sound design, creeping around fearing those cunts to pop off was some tense shit
baited
>you play immersive sims for the story
Lmao
Crack In A Slab is tedious as fuck. It's a cool gimmick but it doesn't make for an actual fun level. Titanfall 2 was executed better.
If you're gonna go with gimmick meme answers, just talk about the Clockwork Mansion
>mfw I first possessed a bloodfly
Man, for all their flaws, these games are fucking great.
Explain them niggy
what the fuck do you mean
>Asylum mission
>Shit my pants when the Ms. Hyde comes out and disenbowels some guy in front of me
>Oh fuck oh please don't make her pursue me in all the level
>She quite literally stays in her room, on the floor
>Relieved but also disappointed
The setting is also so damn nice, I loved exploring the environments.
I enjoyed Dishonored 2 a lot, but my memory of the flies was just me slashing indiscriminately at their nests until the buzzing stopped.
>>Shit my pants when the Ms. Hyde comes out and disenbowels some guy in front of me
I don't remember this
>incentives not being seen
>all of the cool and fun abilities require non stealth
Dishonored isn't a stealth game
>the hub is a boat
so you're pretending it's not a ship, cool
Yeah, I just sprinted out when that happened
That's really a huge missed opportunity. From there, the whole level should have become a stealth mission against the Crown Killer.
name an immersive sim
the fact that me and you have different memories of the fact speaks volumes how well designed it is desu
someone else here probably remembers burning the nests with alcohol bottles instead
>How is BioShock's story bad
>the task of harvesting dangerous chemicals is left to 8-year old girls
>we are expected to take this seriously
>said girls are assigned a big daddy to protect them
>yet during gameplay they are completely invulnerable from harm, they literally are immortal outside of qte prompts for 'rescue' or 'harvest'
>story is about the downfall of Rapture because its population got addicted to using Plasmids
>99% of enemies in the game never use plasmids, with the sole exception of a single Houdini Splicer type enemy
Trying to seriously analyze Bioshock's 'themes' is like trying to make sense of a Kojima game. It's all bunch of style over substance nonsense masquerading as a 2deep4u story
haha thinking plotholes ruin a story. you'd be funny if you weren't so fucking tasteless
Reminder that they made the ship have less interactions compared to the inn because all the cuck reviewers complained about it being boring not to have constant action
If you talk with her assistant that's on the bed this happens
youtu.be
What are some crazy bonecharm combo you found? 4x speed increase while carrying a body + 4x speed increase while sneaking is just so fucking silly.
Maybe not disenbowel, but she throw you against a window and while you're half-buried below a shelf she kills some guy and then leave you for some reason.
Oh, right. That was a cool scene. But you made it sound like it was somewhere more at the beginning of the level.
I bought this a few years ago on some sale and just got around to playing it last week. Ran through the whole game in a few days. I liked it and wish they would do a 3rd.
4x sword swing speed made the game OP. You could just outspam everything if they ever caught you.
>tfw no prequel where you play as vera moray on pandyssia
Boat, ship, whatever, it's fucking tiny, has less characters than the first game, and isn't particularly appealing
Have you played Death of the Outsider yet? Cause it's pretty damn good.
>But you
Killing off Daud and retconning the Outsider as well as adding a future time travel plot to fucking Dishonored sure is great...
The last thing this world needs is more fucking prequels.
>pandyssia
the ice land? how would that work?
Tyvia is the cold one. Different user but I thought Pandyssia was full of jungles?
I don’t even care if they make another game in a different genre, the Dishonored setting is so fucking cool and underrated.
>muh Daud
>muh plot
Holy cringe, I'm dealing with a terminal storyfag that can't appreciate fun gameplay because muh lore.
>gameplay, world, and level design on steroids from the previous game
>barely any side quests to fill all that extra detail
>story does absolutely nothing for most of the game other than retreading shit we basically did in the last game, what are the fucking stakes, I already did all this shit in the last game, monologue after monologue of characters nobody should really care about enough to love or hate
God the game is awesome but the story really sucks.
It is. It's this game's Australia with rabbits with poisoned stings.
>First time around play as Emily and go low chaos. Gets frustrating at times but is fun sneaking around until you get to the witches. Beat it in like 30 hours from being careful.
>New Game+ Play as big daddy Corvo start game with all the perks that make me better at killing, beat it in like 5 hours. Had a blast.
this is not dmc thread user
Backstreet boys releasing music videos nowadays is just weird.
>Holy cringe
You have no right to talk about others
Played through D1 two times. Couldnt even get through one playthrough of D2. It was worse in every way it seemed
I always thought of Africa. Doesn’t the continent also have savage ape men? I guess that could be either niggers or aboriginals
Dishonored 1 had some soul. This game was soulless with a shit story. Why did they fuck this up?
Clockwork Mansion can be cheesed with the time stopping power
>brand new, successful IP
>fuck it up to 'The Last Jedi' levels as soln as the sequel
>top it off with DotO
R-thanks Harvey. Colantonio was the better director and it shows
Different user but you do know you can have both right? Good gameplay AND good story aren't exclusively mutual, Dishonored 1 and PREY (you know, the one directed by the other guy) show that.
Everything can be cheesed with time stop.
God shut the fuck up, the sequel is great.
First time I played that level I snuck around and never pressed the first switch because I always tried to find ways to go up. I killed him without him knowing and turns out that was an achievement. No wonder I didn't have a lot of enemies after me that level.
Hey remember when Anita Sarkeesian complained about Dishonored 1's portrayal of women even if literally the most important position in the universe was Empress? Remember how Harvey Smith said that he "took that to heart"?
Remember when they added a transexual character in 1800s not-London?
>twitch.tv
Remember when Emily now has a partner that has literally no reason to exist as it affects nothing yet it conspicuously has no defined gender?
jesus fucking christ why did you inform me of this
>SJWs can't make good ga-
/pol/tardetties eternally BTFO
nuh uh it has a female protagonist
It’s fucked up how some devs listen to the loudest screeching idiots who are a minority.
As I wrote earlier they also made the ship so shitty because some people complained about the inn being boring and a waste of time away from all the action.
Even though I liked 2 I’m also happy that it flopped because the devs are a bunch of morons.
>Bioshock isn't an immersive sim, it's a corridor FPS.
>mfw i went through both games not reading any on the books/worldbuilding stuff
>God shut the fuck up, the sequel is great.
This reads like you're such a fucking fanboy holy shit
We did it, guys, we managed to have a 100 post vidya thread before a /pol/-browsing obnoxious obsessed and retarded faggot decided to derail it to cry about muh SJWs
Give yourselves a pat in the back, we'll manage another one of these in 5 months or so.
>Even though I liked 2 I’m also happy that it flopped because the devs are a bunch of morons.
What makes you think it flopping will send any kind of message?
Cuckenstein 2 was an even bigger flop, yet they're doubling down on the SJW stuff in the sequel with you playing as two ugly strong independent women.
Dishomored 2's woke content was relatively minor.,
The Wolfenstein's game isn't the "main" sequel to the last game, it'll be another, yet unannounced title
>there are no politics in this vidya
>even though the director for the game explicitly stated in an interview how his team and himself took what Anita fucking Sarkeesian said to heart
Fuck off with your boogeyman
Hopefully that one will be a flop too then. I honestly don’t know much about the new one and didn’t play New Colossus.
Even if it is a spin off is till takes place 20 years after TNC so unless it's non canon we already now BJ fails to stop the Nazis beyond America and he grows old, sad and pathetic
What a nice bunch of allies
Who are you quoting?
I guess. I don't exactly have much hope either.
(1) I adore the first game, easily one of my favourite games of all time, and they screwed everything up with the second one. How.
Why reuse Corvo and Emily? Their story was done; the story of Dunwall was done. The universe is rich af in lore yet you repeat protagonists that had no reason to be involved in conspiracies and the Outsider no more. He's existed for thousands of years, giving powers to few people, and you're telling me the same people in a span of 15 years get involved into the exact same altercation? The Empire betrays its Empress, again, not even 15 years later? They get the Outsider's Mark, again, not even 15 years later?
Talking about repeating stuff, Delilah was 'good enough' as a side villain for a DLC. Not only she's shit as a main antagonist, we already defeated her THE EXACT SAME WAY in the first one's DLC. Same backstory, same motivation, same way to deal with her, they literally extended the story of the first game (main theme and protagonists) and its DLC (villain, reason for villany and way to defeat her) for a sequel.
Also, if they knew from the get go that Emily would be the canon choice, why even create Corvo? They used dev time and resources for nothing when all trailers, gameplay, and Death of the Outsider makes it pretty freaking clear Emily's the one supposed to go through the story, you could've tried and use the time it took to implement Corvo and all his dialogue/skills/whatever into making the game less shit.
These are all valid complaints, but the game is still excellent because gameplay matters more
Different user but you can have both
I agree, they goofed up hard on the story and shouldn't have. I'm just saying the game is still great.
Yeah, Dishonored 2 was literally one of the first post-anita games where the beta male developers caved to her demands and they even hired some awful female writer.
Surprising no one, Dishonored 2 and its stand alone, completely financially bombed and had incredibly mishmashy weak story lines and cliche Strong Empowered women.
(2) The supporting cast is laughable, The boat, Billie Lurk, Hipatia and Sokolov are nothing compared to Havelock, Callista, Cecelia, Piero...
>they were shit too with no personality
A whole lot, and I really mean A LOT of stuff is missable in the first game. You can go out of your way every time you return to the pub to talk with every single character mutiple times, and they always have something new to say, new audiographs they've recorded, or new lines from the Heart. The game never tells you, you'll miss around 80% of that shit in a first playthrough. Nothing nowhere near as that exists in 2, or if it does, it's nowhere near as interesting as it was in the first game, as if an intern had write it instead.
Karnaca is literally SOULESS compared to Dunwall. I'm not saying to make the game take place in the city again, I'm saying to make Karnaca suck less, and make it more intreseting. It has nothing going for it, the art deco, the lore and the technology are all inferior to that of the first game. If the setting in an immersive sim sucks, half of the game's gone with it
The villains. How did they screw this one up? Not like the first game's villains where the best written character ever, but at least you remembered them: the bald zealot you can brand, the twin brothers in the pub, the masked girl from the party... In 2, besides the Duke and maybe the Crown Killer, they're all forgettable. Even Delilah, but we've talked about that before.
>Play Emily high chaos
>She gets more bloodthirsty and savage as the game progresses
This makes my benis the big benis
>MUH REALISM
It's inspired / based on england (with inspiration from others). your own argument against the trans shit doesn't even work idiot
nazis btfo
(3) The non character that is Wyman. Why create a character so close to the MC if you're gonna do nothing with it? No backstory, no relevance to the plot, nothing but a mention here and there on Emily's journey. Why give her a lover, someone she should care for a hell of a lot (the equivalent of what Emily was to Corvo in D1) if it's gonna be nothing but a background character? Why give 'it' no personality, no gender, just a blank state?
(4) When will devs realize people don't hate MC's being gays, they hate it being made to gain brownie points? Make Emily a lesbian, but explain how it affects the character. How did she meet Wyman? Why did they fell in love? How does being an Empress affect their relationship? How does the fact that everyone in Court expect her to have offspring affect her? How does Corvo react to the relationship? There's so much stuff you can do to influence your characters, and yet you half ass it all so it feels Arkane didn't even care and just did it to show the world 'how progressive' they are.
I have beaten the game with zero detections on very hard, without reloading or anything.
The clockwork soldiers are easy to elude, most of the time you either want the high ground so you can pounce them, or a max upgraded mines
you can jump on them with your sword and pop their heads off, and you can use a rewiring tool on them
how is Yea Forums so bad at this game, it is easy as fuck like all arkane sims. there are a billion ways to neautralize clockwork soldiers, get motherfucking good jesus
(5) They screw up both the Outsider and Daud in the expansion. The Outsider's supposed to be an entity that's lived for thousands of year, older that the city that existed before Dunwall did. Associated both by in universe sources (like books) and actual proof (the Void, the Heart, Piero's dreams) with the whales and the Leviathans. NOTHING, not a single thing in the entirey of Dishonored 1 or its DLCs, even remotely points into him being a random kid that was sacrificed eons ago and actually is a kinda good guy that wants to die forever. It breaks his character, all associated with him, and shouldn't have happened.
Ackshually the whole Outsider backstory was planned for a while, it was revealed by one writer in their Twitter and was canon for years before D2 came out.
But it's underwhelming.
>the outsider is not a leviathan anymore
what was the point of changing his origins?christ arkane you just can't have one cool "guy" in your story?
New va sounds fine in doto but in d2 he runs through his lines so fast it's unnerving.
Finished the game a few days ago and it seemed like the definition of soulless mediocrity. By the time I got to the shitty gimmick level that took your powers away (trudging through all that environmental clutter without upgraded dark vision is torture) I stopped giving a shit entirely. Emily's powers are op but in such boring ways too, domino is straight up a delete this encounter button with barely any mana loss.
Had way more fun bumbling through the first game, so much more heart in it even if it was a little basic.
>Mouse sensitivity tied to FRAMERATE at launch
>Lagged like hell for no reason
>durr, sci-fi game has things that are not realistic
invulnerability of little sisters is explained if you actually play the game, brainlet
would be cool to see more active plasmid use from splicers but do you realise that plasmids also include tonics that make you stronger, more durable, fast etc? technical limitations are probably a factor as well
>eliminating enemies in a stealth game
Argument dismissed
Yeah, I was pissed off about The Outsider's backstory well before Dishonored 2 came out or was even announced
He was actually never meant to be a leviathan. His backstory was set in stone before the first game came out. It's just that the fantasy what-if delusions of a mad woman they wrote on an in-game book sounded much more interesting than the actual reality.
