5pin?..

Looks like you needed a 5p, actually.

But, how? Does 57 or 89 count as a two for the complete hand?

whoopsie

You were waiting on 5p, you idiot. Discarding 5p would've been a lot better, even setting up a nice suji trap.

still need 1 more if anyone wants to clean me out

holy shit what's happening in this room (there's one spot left)

Three-in-a-row second places, all negated by a single loss.

Use terminals or honors for a tanki wait next time.

now that the game has been out for a bit, tell me:
what is your current rank?
how many hames have you played (approx)?
how much experience did you have with mahjong prior to this?

Well this is the most interesting wait I've had playing this game. Can YOU name them all?

Correct, I got pretty wide-eyed when I declared riichi for this one.

Ranked gives you rewards like bond and gifts but if you're planning on f2ping for waifus you have a long road ahead of you. I only hit up ranked when i can't find a friendly room.

like 40 something ranked and a bunch with Yea Forums
played on and off for a decade

adept 2, 19 east games and 27 south games.

At least each time it was a different person, getting ron-bullied by the same person is tear inducing. Fun games regardless.

You should save 5 of the purple gift because you need that to bond them

if you care about unlocking the 3 emotes and bond outfit for those girls who need those specific gifts (bear - chiori, sweets - cat/yui, gem - hag), then save them.

43943

Sick of cheaters literally blocking my Rons

played it in yakuza 2
didnt understand it
used peerless tile to auto win the substory requiring you to win then didnt touch it since

played slant-eye chess though, that was kind of fun although as a regular chess player, slant-eye chess moves are super unbalanced.

Just Novice 3 since I'm a noob and didn't really want to do much ranked until I got a better understanding of how the game works. I've played 93 games according to the log. Before this game, I was going to try learning riichi mahjong with tenhou since my friend kept asking me to play it with him, and I had just installed the client when this got announced. Also wanted to learn so I could check out Saki and Akagi.

>slant-eye chess
Which one?

I remember having a winning hand, but couldn't win in Japan because I didn't have a richii or some shit. Chinese mah jong makes way more sense even with the scoring.

You should've discared 5p instead of 2p for better suji trap (assuming the other players are good)

How can it be unbalanced if both players have the same possibilities ?

Adept 3
50 games
a lot

retard

Why didn't the chinese developer make a chinese mahjong game instead of japanese?

chinese mahjong is shit

You're full of bullshit, in Chinese mahjong having a winning hand don't mean shit either, you need to have at least 6 points. It's way easier to make a hand in riichi than in Chinese mahjong.

Sounds like you were calling like an idiot making a worthless hand that barely fulfilled the base requirements of a hand.

chinese mahjong is fucking boring and pure gambling with 0 strategy whatsoever.

So how does mahjong work?
I've never played it before

Adept3
Slightly above 100 toppusen
I've been playing "seriously" mostly till end of 2016 but i dropped my tenhou account for some reasons back then. Nothing to brag about because it only slightly licked tokujou.

63 LUK in ranked and 77 LUK against Yea Forums.

We're all playing Mahjong Soul, it's in English, and even has a tutorial. Just start playing games in bronze East, you don't even need a basic understanding of the rules to win games there, never-mind another language.

See

>you don't even need a basic understanding
youre just begging for him to come back later on asking why he cant win with no yaku / furiten

This but play in bronze south.

Adept 1
Probably 30 or 40, playing at least only up to 5 times per day
Not much, I only knew the basics because of Akagi, Saki and Yakuza minigame

If only there was something in game that could help you familiarize yourself with riichi mahjong.
Oh wait there is a tutorial, just finishing the tutorial will put you at the same level if not better than bronze chinks.

It was a ranked match and I've never posted my name here, so I don't know what you're talking about.

They're extremely exploitable compared to normal chess moves. In particular the generals, and how after promotion pieces tend to gain additional backwards movements. It heavily encourages early round rushing which means inexperienced players have basically zero chance, much like other slant eye games.

The number of people who post here who spent all the cash required to get anything can be counted on one hand. If you're not using cat or hag, there's no point censoring your name.

But it's fun.

I heard there was a rule on dealer deal-ins costing extra indeed but people dropped it. There was also the rule of having a second "dealer" in the sense of the payment plan including these dealer deal-ins - considering the person whose wall contained the dead wall with the dora indicator and rinshans, but apparently both of the rules are more about balancing cheating, and in the usual game that would be overkill.

There should have been tiles that were safer than the one that you dealt in with – even if you didn't possess a tile already discarded by the player on riichi. You shouldn't just discard randomly.
Well, unless it happens early in the round. You should up your game to be able to play in such a situation better by feel-nya.

No, I'm not a 60 year old woman.

Well, it wasn't completely random. Since I didn't know what the nyagger had I just put myself close to tanyao, hoping I potentially could steal it quickly with a lucky draw.
If it were any big brain deductions to be done I sure as hell have neither the experience or the knowledge to have done it.
If you got any resources on how to learn that shit then you are welcome to share.

3 and 5 aren't that hard to remember, although it's mostly luck actually getting one

Have fun having that for 20 turns before dealing into a hell wait.

Did you open your hand there?

if you go into your logs you can find a link to the game if you feel like posting it

i have a couple of questions
what do you do if you have a yakuhai pair early (dragons or wind)? it feels bad ponning it early because then your hands open but also if you dont people seem to throw most of them away early anyway so youre less likely to get the third and may have to just use it as a pair or throw it away
also do you always fold if another player riichis or looks to be about to win? or does it depend how close you are e.g. if youre in tenpai or 1-shanten you wont fold

>playing a RNG game
Why?

>2nd four times in a row

I guess this is what peak defense looks like

Attached: [HorribleSubs] Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_04.13_[2018.10.29_10.55.35].jpg (1280x720, 65K)

I don't open my hand unless I've got like a 10,000 point lead

It's like poker, the kind of rng that feels good

so what do you do with the yakuhai pair? dump them?

Usually I'll end up discarding them yeah but sometimes I'll just keep them as a pair, worst case if someone gets a quick riichi a hidden honor tile pair is (usually) pretty safe

It depends, if I have a flexible hand, I'll pass on the third and make a decision when they drop the 4th one.
if I'm 1st or 2nd, I'll pon it and try to end the hand before anyone can do anything.
if I'm last, I'll just try to go all in building the most valuable hand I can make, even if it means leaving the dragons as a pair or discarding them altogether.

>It's like poker
Maybe if you had 4 decks and could replace your cards 70 times spread to 4 players and had retarded winning hand rules

>make three calls in the same suit
>everyone stops dealing that suit
>actually on shanpon wait with two sets of yakuhai, one of which is the dora

DEVIOUS

>living a RNG life
Why?

using it as a pair is fine most of the time, if the other tiles are on the board you can (almost always) use them as safe discards if you need to fold. if you're not specifically going for pinfu/tanyao there's no real need to dump them if you aren't calling
depends on how close i am, how much my hand is worth, how much i think the guy i'm folding against's hand is worth, etc.

If I'm looking for points, I hold onto the dragons as pairs. If I'm looking to end the round fast, I yakuhai.

As for riichi, 2 away or worse is an automatic fold. If I'm 1 away I walk on thin ice but if I'm in tenpai I yolo.

where do I learn how to actually play this game? The in-game tutorial is shit

>how are you guys this bad? I just got lucky lol

It took me thirty
I'm currently getting my ass knocked around in silver though, probably not gonna hit expert for a good minute

Inflexible strategy like this is what leads to people going "OMG I LOST TO A HELL WAIT BUT MY AWESOME RIICHI NEVER WORKS OUT!!!" Throwing out dragon pairs instead of calling them is absurd

just play a bunch of games

Not interested in having Yea Forums shit on me more than necessary, but here is the fatal decision.
"Decent lead" and "shadow realm" might be hyperbole, but what wouldn't you do for a (you)?

? Keeping your hand closed is the opposite of inflexibility

Attached: kizuna rtard.jpg (842x699, 42K)

Mahjong is not a game of luck, individual hands are, but long term success is very much about making good decisions

Doesn't mean shit if you're putting yourself 2shanten farther from tenpai immediately because you think low value hands are for noobs or something

Post stats b*tch

I don't think that's gonna be enough

The true Akagi wait would be waiting on some other suit.

To get point you only need to get into 2nd+
Also against bronze leaguers you should be winning about 50% of the time

You can easily get to adept with a bit of luck, it's about 4-5 games to get the 200 points of novice 3.

A tanyao only like this isnt worth pushing a suji tile for user.Just go full betaori next time.

Yeah, or you can get there by just not being bad at mahjong, do you think im new to playing this or something?

I wonder what this book is about

Attached: aeb91f72103bf616eaf3a81b3ec0edaa.png (1067x497, 187K)

I have not heard of the term suji. What does it mean and what tiles should I have dropped instead?
I assume I should have dropped the eight now when I look at it again.

So you're shitting on new players getting into adept after a lot of games because you could do so in less games .
People bragging about being better than newbies are just retarded, stop posting anytime.

I am shitting on new players yes, go be mad somewhere else lol

>Mahjong is not a game of luck

Are you sure about that?

Attached: 1555279800004.png (611x556, 382K)

Not as much as people would like you to believe

Consider a wait where you have the incomplete sequence 4-5. If you drew and discarded the tile 6, you would also be in furiten for the tile 3. Therefore, a player with a 6 in their discards would be less likely to need a 3 as their winning tile. Obviously this isn't bulletproof with the existence of stuff like single waits or pair waits, but it's a useful defensive tool when you have no actual safe tiles.

There is just too much to the game to learn it all without even playing. The best way of learning this game is to start really simple and to pick up more things as you play.

Here's a beginner strategy:
Try keeping you hand closed(no pon/chi). Only open you hand if you have Yakuhai(look it up) or Tanyao/All Simples(look it up). Learn more about Yakus as you play. Discard single/non-adjacent tiles in the following order: Honor tiles, 1/9, 2/8.

In reality it's a lot more complicated than that but this should get you started.

Suji is a way to defend again ryanmen wait (this kind of wait 23 45 ...78). Like assume someone riichi with ryanmem wait and 1 tile pass, suji of that tile X +-2 is relatively safe ( not in this case because hes waiting with 78s instead of 45s) .In this case without safe tile you should discard 4m because its suji to 1m and 7m in his discard pond.

Does anyone here have experiences with this set? Why is there no green color?

>only one kan
Saki-san is disappointed user

safe tile order from safest to least safe
6m (safe tile)
8m (one chance + suji of 5m from right player)
4m (suji from 1m and 7m)
5p (suji from 8p and 2p)
6s that you discarded (need 9s in discard pile to be safe suji)

You're ahead and it's against a dealer riichi while your hand is tanyao only.
You absolutely shouldn't push there.

gg, my first double riichi, even if some autistic brat nearly ruined it.

South is too long and boring. and the 4th place punishment is gruesome.

Basically no modern Japanese sets use green ink anymore. If you ever find one it'll be some limited expensive luxury set so it's probably not even worth looking for.
You made a good choice those, it's a nice set. I have the slightly smaller one but the Max has nicer point sticks and wind marker

I thought 6m is safe at first glance too but it isnt user.

Oh hi Cat

I did not kan her, I did not!

They're basically perfect. Used them for a couple games, had them drop onto tile and hardwood from table height without damage and it comes with all the shit you need. They look very pretty in person.

Nice to hear!

This might be a really dumb question, but do you think it would damage the tiles if I drew arabic numerals on the man suit with a non-permanent marker? I think it would help with teaching the game to my friends

please don't do that, just print out cheat sheets and give one to everybody

Attached: 1527293541923.png (739x531, 100K)

You can use some transparent tape to do that too.

Both of those sound much better than drawing on the tiles, thanks for getting that idea out of my head

yeah, basically you hear RIICH and get to panic-memorizing those zero tiles immediately

Why are mahjong kids so obnoxious? Just make a fucking general already

Wrong.

Weird, they look significantly shinier than the max and gabin. I'd actually prefer that so maybe I should have gone with the monster.

Does Japan actually have middle and high school mahjong clubs and national tournaments, or did Saki make that up?

Time to try to get today's tasks done

Time to watch someone else complete them actually

1 more

Does anyone have any reliable information on the 1-sou's history and development? I understand the sou were originally (arguably still are) coin strings rather than bamboo, and the 1-sou was a single chord in early sets, but I can't find how we got from that to the multiple varieties of birb on modern sets.

Does USA have middle and high school poker clubs or tournaments?

You mahjong folks are actually retarded.

Yup

I can confirm that these are very shiny, though I don't see any difference from these pictures but if you're describing the gabin as matte these are definitely not matte.

I'm learning through Yakuza Kiwami 2.
I never ever got 1st and I'm still on the easy table, I never once was able to call riichi and completing a hand before my opponents or the last turn seems impossible

I'm pretty sure what fucks me are the yakus but I try to make sure to have a triplet dragon or wind every time but I still can't win even though my hand seems valid.

no but i just reached the mahjong part in kaiji without knowing shit

You can't riichi if you've called on someone else's tile.

it is on this game, since everyone goes for quick hands

That's the third rinshan I've seen in two days of friendlies with Yea Forums.
What the fuck.

Attached: rowboat.png (500x506, 438K)

Get four melds (three of a kind or three consecutive numbers) and a pair.

Easy yakus:
- No 1's, 9's, winds or dragons
- Triplet of dragons
- Triplet of the round wind (game starts on East, after at least four hands goes South)
- Triplet of your personal wind
- Riichi: Can be declared if you only need one tile to complete three melds and a pair, and you haven't called any tiles from other players

I did this all the way to adept 3 and it suddenly stopped working.
I don't know what's going on any more, I think I've been cursed.
Attacking is pointless, my hands are worthless, and never make it to tenpai anyway. Defending is also pointless, no-one else defends under any circumstances, so defending against one just gets you ronned by one of the other two.
All I can do is pass time losing 1000 points over and over again until the game is over.

Attached: aiharamai-7.png (240x240, 81K)

I know they place dots on the red dora tiles for the color blind and for actually blind people but God, a pure red 5m is an absolutely boner inducing piece.

Typo on riichi part, of course you always need FOUR melds

Does Beyblade actually have international tournaments where world-renowned teenagers battle for the most prestigious title on the planet, or did Beyblade make that up?

dykes are raiding Yea Forums games.

You don't either faggot

If you have triplets or sequences, or a mix of them in a closed hand, you have a Yaku (two if you riichi and win)

Even If you open your hand:
and have a triplet of your seat wind, you have a Yaku
and have a triplet of the round's wind, you have a Yaku
and have a triplet of a dragon tile
and do triplets/sequences without using 1,9,wind,dragon, you have a Yaku
and do sequences and triplets of the same suit, you have Flush
and do sequences combined with wind or dragons ,you have half-flush
and have seven pairs, you have a Yaku
and all triplets, you have a yaku

remember those, they are the easiest

K thanks, I guess I'll follow the advice of playing with a detailed list of Yakus at hand

if you ever notice a chink playing abnormally well they may be cheating
i found what is basically a cheat, it can show you the most efficient tile discards as well as which tiles are most dangerous to discard

I do remember Beyblade having tournaments when it was still big in the west. Not sure about now, even though the anime and toys are still going.

why is it always the chinese who are most likely to cheat? no other asian country is so fucking full of hackers and cheaters

Care to share with the class, or are we just going to take your word for it?

I folded most of my hands and mostly got 2nd and 3rd places too, but I managed to avoid 4th place all the time.
There are like 6 3rd and 2nd places with only 1 1st place already overwritten in that graph.
Rather than praying to get lucky, you just need to know how and when to fold while winning with whatever you have, really.

Get good or get beat. It's honestly not that hard to see what tiles you arent suppose to play. You guys are acting like Mahjong is some mentally hardcore 8D chess

110 is the Chinese emergency number, it's not going to say anything to most people who play in English

I don't know, but it's funnier this way imo.

justanotherjapanesemahjongblog.blogspot.com/p/list-of-defence-theory-articles.html
Here's a rule of thumb for you, don't push against riichi unless you're tenpai with 3 han and a good wait or iishanten for mangan or more.

That book is basically the bible of modern mahjong strategy. Stats-based digital theory, lots of data, highly recommended for anyone who can read moon.

If it means not having to play against retards I'd say go ahead and make it public. Majsoul players need all the help they can get.

why not translate it as 911, the most logical choice?

Folding doesn't even help!
You fold against the guy in riichi and get ronned by the guy with 2 open melds on the left, or the 1 open meld on the right. My games have become completely 100% random, so I'm making no progress either up or down. Trying to defend makes almost no difference to my deal ins, because I just can't defend from 3 different people at once, and they never ever fold themselves under any circumstances.
Every game recently seems completely random, either I'm the lucky idiot who gets a stupid fast baiman and coasts to the end of the game, or I'm the guy who is ronned by that lucky idiot.

I think it's funnier like this frankly

pain

Shitty mahjong set we have has bamboo that use circles for the notches. Every player has confused them for pins multiple times. I'd show you, but There was a domestic dispute under our apartment. At least 4 cop cars got called in and I didnt want to be around to see it escalate. Especially because the dude that lives there is creepy as fuck.

My guess is that she's supposed to call about harassment, not for a medical emergency, which people associate 911 with

You aren't folding right if you're dealing in, period

Attached: folding is not a sin.jpg (728x1057, 131K)

>efficient chinese anons use perfectly legitimate resources to improve their play
>ignorant and ape-like gweilo respond with copy pasta because they think it has magic powers
president xi please civilize this backwards land

I don't know how good you are, but you'd be surprised how average players have absolute garbage efficiencies that they rarely get into tenpai and all they do is blame their own luck for that.

110 is apparently police only from what I've heard, while 911 covers a bunch of emergencies.

There are many more defensive measures than just betaori

That's their fault. Get better. Mahjong newfags in here ask dumb fucking questions it's embarrassing.

You're talking as if you're always fighting against 3 players in tenpai at once. situation like that rarely happens. If it happens as frequent as you say, then why aren't you the one in tenpai? either you have shit efficiencies or you aren't folding properly enough.

Poker isn't very big here

???
Okay? so, you have nothing to say? what's your stance on that efficiency cheating program, then?
You're fine with it because you just don't give a shit about average players? Okay, then.

okay, retard.

...this proves my point. Mahjong kids on here are actually the most braindead posters on this board.

It's 1 han while open and often relies on an edge wait. It's a noob trap.

It's not like an aimbot you fucking retard

Calling Ittsu is only good when you are waiting for edge or closed wait to prevent furiten.
Like having 123 46 89, you might want to call 5 and 7.

user I don't even know what you're talking about or what you're upset about
I'm sorry about your autism

it's 1 han open so it's basically the same as yakuhai/tanyao except a million times harder to make
like if you got 8/9 tiles already go ahead but don't wreck your hand for that shit

Call for itsuu is always a trap unless it give you tenpai with a non-furitenable wait. Even then its still a bad call because open itsuu is only 1 han it isnt worth the trouble.

It's only worth 1 han when open and you usually only have a single sided wait (or otherwise you risk of furiten), so it's often not worth opening your hand for it. If you have other han, such as a bunch of dora, and/or you've got guaranteed ittsuu with one call, then sure, go for it.

No user. I'm sorry for your autism. We need to nuke the mahjong threads or send them over to /vg/

Having suggested tiles might make new players worse, as they are less likely to think conciously about their choices. It will just make newbie rooms harder for no benefit.

Sometimes there are no safe tiles, especially if there are 2-3 people in tenpai, you didn't fold until late, and you have 10 seconds to think.

No it's not. Show me where it says that.

Then don't stay here. This is the equivalent of bearing a child and complaining that the are weak, they can't help it.

Fair point, bit ot might just be delaying the problem and forcing players that do not understand the game to play at ranks they shouldn't.

Did you really expect a band of steely-eyed veterans to pop up out of nowhere? Serious veterans are probably never moving from Tenhou. Novices and the stupid shit they do is the lifeblood of these threads.

*Beating a child
*They are weak

Man I need sleep

Oh fuck, I thought meta shitposting stopped yesterday.

There is weak and there's fucking stupid. Like braindead retarded. The amount of times some retard wonders what the fuck furiten is and they search it up and they still fucking ask here what it is despite the wording being easy as fuck to understand. Even worse that the tiles are already colored red to show which fucking tile it is.

What does it matter? You are still boasting of your skills in a metaphorical kiddie pool. Just go somewhere more appropriate.

the threads getting the attention of a few of the king autismos from jayp was inevitable and they'll literally never go away until they're bored or forget. they've been here for longer than what is likely the average age of Yea Forums posters these days.

best not to worry about it

>open threads on a general board
>loads of people asking questions and loads of people posting guides and reference information
>loads of people posting beginner rooms
hmm

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH EXPERT IS SO FUCKING ANNOYING.

Literally the process for each player is like this:
Is my hand shit? if yes, rush a 1000 point crap hand.
If no, hit riichi by turn 8 on a semi-decent wait, or bluff like you have a good wait.
It doesn't fucking help that for 2 gmaes in a row I couldn't finish a fucking hand. I keep comign to the situation where I have 2 2-sided waits and I'm waiting to self-draw something decent, but as luck turns out, everyone else is waiting on those same tiles as well and they're in tenpai after calling some winds.

Is there a gallery with all the emotes in the game?

I'm not boasting. I'm questioning why mahjong newfags are actually braindead. Is it the anime autism that just rots the brain?

>why are people just learning how to do something not very good at it?

i do not fear them, they have been made weak from the influence of touhou and i will stand over their broken bodies after the shitposting war has ended

I guess it's just my sense of humor, but anons coming in angry at you because they don't understand how furiten works will never not be hilarious to me.

>How do you spell Hippopotamus?
>Oh I googled it and it says it's spelled Hippopotamus.
>Hey Yea Forums how do you spell this word????
Hmmmm

Probably just Yea Forums that rots their brain, just like what happened to yours.

absolute garbage-tier bait

Check ofn3ul in the archives.

"Hey guys why can't I call Ron here it says that I'm in furiten??? I searched it up and furiten apparently means I can't Ron on a tile I discarded." -puts a bunch of screenshots including one that shows a red tile SHOWING WHAT FUCKING TILE IT ID.-

Come on. Am I expecting too much from you people?

>>How do you spell Hippopotamus?
>>Oh I googled it and it says it's spelled Hippopotamus.
>>Hey Yea Forums how do you spell this word????
>How do you spell Hippopotamus?
>Oh I googled it and it says it's spelled Hippopotamus.
>Hey Yea Forums how do you spell this word????
>Hippopotamus was probably meant to be a verb, not an adjective.
>Did someone at Yea Forums make this into the article you linked?
>Hippopotamus is not the same as hippopotamist, but it could come from the same name.
>Oh look... I think there's a good explanation, which you're right.
>Hehe, thanks for pointing this out.
>If there are any other questions then please do so, as all knowledge is subjective.
>Hippos are a lot bigger than hippos, they're much bigger with a trunk than anything, it's so much bigger they could have wings
>>Please elaborate what exactly you mean when you say that.
>>If they're smaller in size with their trunk, and bigger with their arms which they can throw, how large are they?
>>I guess smaller for being smaller in size because the legs have less distance (this one's easier when you add up the distance of the arms), but the trunk

Stay in silver. it's more fun there anyway.

Stop responding to it please
let the autist cry to himself

Lmao fucking loser with the passive aggressive remarks.

Stuff like this happens every time something niche and difficult to learn touches on mainstream appeal, whether it's a strategy game or a fightan franchise with a surprise hit. There are always dum-dums pulled in by the hype that huff and puff because they can't grasp basic ideas, and they're the first to wash out after the initial wave of enthusiasm. I just don't get why you're affronted by this instead of busting a gut.

host here, thanks for the games

no prob and have a good day

I was totally losing on purpose by the way. You know to get luck while laddering. I dealed to your hands cause I totally could see your waits he-he.

t. 4th place

>south 4
>I'm fourth
>third place does early riichi
>just fold, first place is just barely above 30k points
>third place rons first
>goes up just over 30k
Well, no comeback for me.

Not only that, these threads are moving fast enough that they are basically chat rooms. A newcomer to mahjong very well may not know what furiten is, or even heard of the term (let alone what to google for), so it's no surprise it's something that might get asked around a lot. It's not like there's a short supply of players who can't explain it.

It says when you're in furiten. Literally fucking Google it

>every time i see this posted it gets longer
i wasn't going to read all that shit the first time around and i'm not gonna even more of it now

>can't explain it
can*, I'm too tired.
