Since this is a Dragon's Dogma thread about Quina let me ask one thing. I am playing for the first time. When I began there was some alternate quest where I had to seek Quina in the forest. So I went and found her there, but my pawns had died and I thought it would be dangerous, so I backtracked and went to Gran Soren. After recovering my pawns I headed back to the forest but she was gone, and so was the quest. What do I do? She said she would be waiting for me there when I left

I just completed Dragon Dogma recently and i am doing a second playthrough. I have some questions.

First

They warn you about how quests stop being available if you progress the story. Most people rush to Gran Soren to get access to the other vocations most times since you can still easily max Quina and still get Selene, though you lose some context if you don't meet Selene while helping Quina.

How do you people manage to end up with random NPCs? If you just did your side quests you'd naturally end up with some female NPCs because some of their quests give you maxed affection
The only way I can see someone missing this is by speedrunning

First: You either mean the Wyrm Hunt quest that takes you to the Catacombs (Seeking Salvation) or one given to you by Mason to track someone through Gran Soren at night from the Duke's castle. The story is really half-baked, though, so you might've missed Julien (blond foreign knight guy) in the background during the Catacomb cutscenes. Or maybe you skipped that one, as you only need 2 WH quests to go to see the Duke, but then that would be on you.

Second: Mercedes is featured in a couple unmissable story missions at the beginning (hydra at the Encampment, escorting the head to Gran Soren) then kind of disappears for a while. Her escort quest is worthwhile if you or your pawn are a fighter, it gives a very good shield. Otherwise she can be talked to for unique dialogue during Griffin's Bane and asks you to look after the men (although I think this might be bugged- I've never gotten a good response from her after the mission). Then there's Pride Before a Fall, and that's it for Mercedes. She's gone.

Third: It depends on how you act during the fight between him and Mercedes. If you don't interfere, he fucks off back to his home country never to be seen again. If you attack and kill him, he's dead. However, you can attack and kill him and then raise him with a wakestone, then he'll go to jail and you can visit him in prison underneath the Duke's castle.

Fourth: To get the beloved you want kidnapped by Grigori, it's pretty simple: it's the last person with max affinity (pink aura) you interact with (talk to, give a gift) before you do the quest Deny Salvation (where you re-take the Greatwall). So if you have more than one person at the pink aura stage, you have to be smart about who you interact with during the quests leading up to that.

Long story short, get/play Sorcerer. Mage is more or less irrelevant. Start mage if you're planning to play Sorcerer yourself because you'll still get some overlapping stuff in advance, but switch to Sorc as soon as you can. You can bring a mage pawn if you want a healer, but you're usually better off bringing a Sorc pawn (their AI is much better for starters) to actually kill shit and just use consumables to heal.

The game's already got black and ambiguously brown people, they can't screw that up.

That's why the game's at its best in BBI. No roaming around areas looking for shit to kill, just a big dungeon with unique challenges back to back.

Levelling is okay, it's just that it shouldn't have any irreversible changes to your stats in an action game that lets you change your vocation. What it should have done was have pre-set stats for each level for each vocation. Level 100 Warrior should have very high strength and low magic, but when you switch your vocation to Sorceror, it should automatically redistribute stats to have low strength and very high magic. This isn't as important as adjusting the damage formula, though. You should still be able to do significant damage to any enemy even with suboptimal gear (to an extent). I was struggling to damage enemies in the Everfall with pre-Everfall gear.

I legit prefer the ending where you just get the Seneschal to send you back home.

No. Leveling has no place with actual controls. Keep it to the RPGs where your damage is calculated by rules and dice rolls not for action combat. Not only it's simply retarded how one wolf can bite 10x harder for no reason but also it makes it harder to balance the game because players can be underleveled or overleveled. If you just make it an action game with equipment it'll just be much better. XP should be used just to unlock skills like red orbs in DMC.

Yes, although it's accessible from the very beginning of the game, you can go there at any time. Trying to get through some of it at lower levels can be a fun challenge, I'd probably reserve it for a second playthrough though. Also it has two cycles: the first time you go through it, then beat the boss, then you go through from the beginning but enemy spawns are much tougher.

Yeah, that one. It's not without flaws but it also has some unique ideas and mechanics which is pretty refreshing. Dungeons so far were interesting to explore and there's a lot of neat stuff to find or figure out.

how is hard mode with a new character? I know it's hard at first but then you quickly get overleveled from all the XP which sounds fun but does it fuck you up post-game and in BBI?

If you get someone to hire your pawn, then restart your save, when that person sends them back they'll retain all bestiary, location, and quest knowledge from your old save. Rift Crystals don't carry over, unfortunately.

Golem's are some of my favorites. Awful to fight against but their animation feels so floatly and uncanny, it's like a stop motion creature. Like I'm even more in a Harryhausen feature.

Nah. Post game amps up difficulty by adding in strong versions of existing mobs and new bosses to fight. Bitterblack is its own difficulty altogether. It's a mix of post game and new monsters, but they all hit very hard and can take a lot of damage. Honestly doing hard mode is a great way to tackle the DLC sooner.

Not exactly. You get materials either from monster drops (wolf pelts, goblin horns, etc.) or collecting them in the world (plants) and then those are used to upgrade your weapons at an armorer. You can also combine many healing items, crafting materials, and other things to make other items, but it's not a particularly deep or useful system.

There really aren't fetch quests but there's a shit ton of escort quests which vary in how annoying they are from being piss easy to aggravating as fuck unless you know what you're doing.

There's plenty of item crafting for potions and stuff, it's very wide but shallow in that regard. There's tons of armors and clothing to collect and can be upgraded 6 times(4 times base game) based on materials you've collected.

There's quite a bit of traveling by foot but there are also a decent number of portcrystals available and ferrystones are pretty cheap. There's quite a bit to find and discover just as far as the world goes but I wouldn't call it an open world game, there's a clear progression of quests.

There are quests about getting from point A to point B but they are minimal and contained in the earliest part of the game, most tedious ones are escort quests but they can be safely ignored unless you really want to get romance points with a certain character. The open world is quite fucking shitty, one of the worst aspects, the game shines in the dungeons.

It doesn’t matter if the game already have decent looking black/brown people. You just know damn well that they are gonna get the most niggest looking nogs and she-boons to play the characters.

Why is it that my game gets weird intermittent stuttering on PC? It's 60fps, but drops to 55fps every once in a while for a second or so. Drops into the 40's after pausing and tabbing in-and-out.

I'm I always get frame drops in certain areas of the game, no matter what resolution or settings, I even tried lowering everything I could and I would still get those drops. My guess is it's just a problem with the game itself.

You also get a lot of rift crystals from doing the From A Different Sky fetch quests off the notice board in the pawn guild's basement. And once you complete them once you can instantly complete them again on NG+ just by taking them out of storage.

I did my damnest but it didn't work. Gave Quina the ring and a stupid amount of gits. Made sure everyone else hated me. Kicked and threw Aelienore an absurd amount of times but still got her as a beloved. I guess doing her quest automatically locks her as a beloved regardless of what you do.

It'll automatically set her affinity to the max I think, and your beloved will always be the last max-affinity person you spoke to.
You should've left Quina's quest for last.

Plan what you wear when you face Grigori, find a group that tracks the Ur-Dragon and get him while he's in grace, farm Cursed Dragons on BBI. The other dragonkin's chances to DF are not that good. If you're talking pre-Final Battle, I guess BBI would be your best option. If you can get some Rancid Bait Meat somehow you can summon Cursed Dragons in the Duskmoon Tower (second area in). And I've never heard of an exploit with Devilfire Grove drake, although sometimes he flies into the ocean or something and you can get something dragonforged just running through the forest.

You can do the Blighted Manse and rescue Aelinore after completing Deny Salvation (which will lock her out of beloved, as someone's already been snatched, provided you interacted with a different max affinity NPC before you start Deny Salvation). You don't have to chase after Grigori right away, once the stuff with Elysion goes down you can leave and do whatever.

It's been years since I've played this game but after some googling I finally remembered how I did it years ago. All I had to do was to buy a maker's finger with fournival and then spawn the cursed dragon in that duskmoon tower room, save the game and then shoot him in the heart and pray to rngeesus.

I'm making a Bloody Knuckles challenge run and I want to get two of them as soon as possible and to get that ring you need to rarefy a weapon.

You can make your pawn a real human bean at the end of the game though.

Get the blessed flower and copy the fuck out of it. It makes leveling much faster.
It you have played the game through a few time try starting a brand new game on hard mode. Makes things much more intense.

Is your chosen confirmed in that goblin attack cutscene? I think I had the princess in it, but that pawn showed in the end.
