Rain world

Bought it yesterday, about 1 hour in and I don't know what the fuck I'm doing or what is the appeal of this game, is it a metroidvania? Do I have to plan a route from shelter to shelter until I have enough food/symbols to open a new area and repeat the process? Is there any pay off anytime soon?

Go back to playing it
The game is all about discovery and learning why the fuck do you want to be spoonfed

This is an exploration game. Explore. Just don't go into drainage early on, it might make you quit.

You don't get power ups.
The game is pure exploration.
There is an advanced moveset the game never tells you about, but it's hard to use and you don't need it to beat the game.
Having low karma caries no penalty besides not being able to pass gates.
Your goal is to follow the overseers directions. If you want to follow the beaten path.
Or you could explore and not give a fuck.

Here is an example of the mad shit the advanced moveset lets you do.
I never learned it past the fast slide.

Follow the yellow worm
When you get an achievement and go back to the main menu you get 1 fast travel ''token''
Elitist fags will tell you to not look at the wiki, but don't listen to them, most of the items you find have multiple uses that only autistic people find out about
There's also many advanced movements, all on the wiki too
General direction for story content is up-right

There is a payoff in the form of story content, outsmarting the A.I. and discovering just wtf happened to the world to travel

You can find everything's use just by using common sense and trying a bunch of shit with it. You might be a brainlet.

The payoff is reaching that next area and discovering new things.
Seriously, this is the game equivalent of a wildlife documentary.
There's some pretty deep and hidden lore too.

You explore and try to survive while doing so. The yellow fellow is the closest thing that you have to a guide, but don't rely on them 100%. Don't fuss too much about dying by the way, karma (your current symbol) is not as important as you might think. Generally gates to new areas with a higher requirement lead to a much harder off-beat path. If you end up going the "optimal" route that the yellow thing tries to lead you through you shouldn't have to worry about your karma too much, as long as you aren't dying constantly.

OH please tell me how you found out how to feed rabbit walkers, or that you could even feed them at all

>Is there any pay off anytime soon>
no

>Is there any pay off anytime soon?
Let go of desire.

Is it necessary to finish the game? Nigger.

>is it a metroidvania?
No. You unlock just about nothing except the ability to understand speech at one point. Which is why someone starting a second playthrough will fly through the areas and kick the shit out of lizards using the same mechanics that a new player doesn't understand or realize are there. That should be incentive to get better.

I didn't actually figure this out on my first run but still went through the farm arrays with their help, that wasn't easy.

>That should be incentive to get better.
why get better at a game where everything is random and you can lose even when you play perfectly?
always cracks me up how the fanboys of this piece of shit treat it as both a high skill platformer and as a "random life simulator" whenever convenient to justify its flaws

If you can get good at poker, then you can get good at Rain World.

To almost never die while styling on the wildlife and unlocking everything of course. Retard.

>you can lose even when you play perfectly?
that would imply you didn't play perfectly :)

You literally cannot lose unless you're playing hunter which you shouldn't be doing to begin with if you're bad lol.

>high skill platformer
nice job outing yourself, loser

>unlocking everything of course
yeah lemme run though coastline like 20 times back and forth fetching those pearls
embarassing "game"

If you don't like doing that good thing it's entirely optional. Embarassing "argument".

no it's not, getting the context to all that is happening isn't optional
again the cope with calling every broken aspect of the game "optional" to justify it wrongly being there
what a funny bunch of autists this game attracts I can't believe it
btw I have beaten hunter

kek

>getting the context to all that is happening isn't optional

It is tho :~)

>isn't optional
what did you mean by this

>literally a teenager that plays games to prove he is good at beating them, completely ignoring all the artistic subtext
thanks for showing that you are a retard whose opinion doesn't matter

Now THAT'S how you have a thread about a video game

When did I claim that I didn't collect a bunch of pearls like a turboautist? Which I might add was an entirely optional endeavor that I did out of my own volition :-)

Attached: 20190310204624_1.jpg (1920x1080, 209K)

It is optional. Your opinion doesn't change that. And you haven't beaten hunter. You clearly haven't beaten the game at all.

Your definition of what is optional is very peculiar user. if you want to read the log then why would you not just read the text dump and not waste your time playing this shit game then.

yeah ok what did you think the word optional mean

Obsessed

We're hitting levels of karma that shouldn't even be possible

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 15K)

are you simple, user?

No, he has ascended beyond our level of comprehension

You should see the guys who do two-cycle hunter runs

you're implying simulating the unfairness of nature is an inherently bad design decision.

Just explore, you cock fag. And don' t ready any wikis.

>You don't get power ups.
unenlightened beast.

>WHIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRR

How exactly does that help me find my family?

I swear those rabbit walkers are the biggest asshole in the game
especially when you try to get the red pearl

your family is dead.

and I have no family!

Attached: 1550661904204.png (758x700, 32K)

why is there so few r34 of this game?

why is this a bad thing?

Attached: 1543868095767.jpg (1200x864, 56K)

because slugcat is cute and I want to cuddle with him

>daddy long legs

You should stop giving out this advice, or at least spoiler the fucking thing. Discovery and experimentation is a large part of the game. You don't have to be autistic to figure out what items do, all it takes is some curiosity.

They're just enlightened
