A bit late, but what's the deal with this game? I play a lot of gungeon and I really want to try it out, so far I know that:
>devs bad
>it's abandoned
How much content does it have? and is the gog version good?
I guess this can be a roguelite thread.
A bit late, but what's the deal with this game? I play a lot of gungeon and I really want to try it out...
... wrong image, I was thinking about NUCLEAR THRONE.
nuclear throne is even worse than gungeon, also binding of isaac is better than both. twin-stick roguelite shooters are kind of an obsolete genre because none can top isaac
I've played enough isaac for this lifetime
i feel you but these games are just worse versions. you might get 10 hours of fun out of it just because its new but thats about it
I've played over 200h of gungeon so far, you underestimate me, I need more cracklite
also isn't isaac in not a very good spot right now? I'm planning to play it again when they add antibirth
well if its twin-stick roguelites in particular youre looking for i dont think anything comes even close to the quality of gungeon even. not nuclear throne, not our darker purpose, nothing that i know of
>not a very good spot right now
what do you mean? theyre making that free mod antibirth into a commercial release which might be seen as scummy by some people but ill happily buy it since the mod only works with the base game without any additional content
I think the overall feel of the game, action and shooting, is a lot faster and more satisfying in NT but maybe it wont give you as many hours of content as gungeon did. It's still a hell of a lot of fun and if I had to come back to one of them for a round I'd likely come back to NT just because it keeps going much faster and is great for a small shot of adrenaline.
Can someone explain the difference to me from NT and GG? I like Isaac, so wonder what these two are like as well. Are they different enough to be fun to play too?
if you like isaac you should definitely try gungeon, what do you like about isaac?
gungeon is a lot like isaac just with way less stuff in it (and some new things, granted). NT is less for roguelite fans and more for pure twin-stick shooter fans
In a nutshell NT is faster, has even more satisfying shooting and can be fucking ridiculous with the enemy if you reach far enough as it never stops getting harder (you can loop at the end of a run to keep going to even harder levels). Characters are also mote unique and interesting both in design and abilities. However it doesnt have as many guns, content and polish as gungeon, its a rougher game. I say, pirate and try both.
The enemy variety, the random events that can happen. All the mysterious loot you could potentially come across. There’s tons of characters too, but that’s kind of whatever since I mainly play Isaac anyways. Probably, really like loot and just building up to be a beast with different combinations.
enemy count*
isn't issac a 4 way shooter?
>The enemy variety, the random events that can happen. All the mysterious loot you could potentially come across
you will love it imo, especially synergies
Have you tried Wizard of Legend?
no but I have watched it a bit, looks interesting, how is it compared to other titles?
you sound like me so i can say why i personally dont like gungeon that much even though ive put around 40 hours into it
there are lots of different enemies but the variety is poor, its not significantly different types of enemies like you get in isaac for the most part. passive/activated items are fucking boring and not even in the same universe of quality and variety as isaac. synergies are next to non-existing, again compared to isaac. the only thing you got is different kinds of crazy guns but these are independent weapons, its not like collecting tear upgrades in isaac
>finally 100% everything in gungeon
>uninstall it and never feel inclination to play it
I don't feel this way about any of the other roguelites I've conquered, and still go back to those. Explain.
NT is a much more rough around the edges game. It has less content, is stuck at 30 FPS, and has much simpler graphics.
However, where it shines is its simplicity. Despite having less guns, Nuclear Throne’s guns feel more satisfying to use. Having only two weapon slots requires the player to make critical decisions.
Builds are somewhat more linear due to their being clear better choices in some cases, some mutations are definitely weaker than others. However being able to pick and choose your upgrades to suit your build gives the player a degree of creativity.
After playing NT for so long and being able to roll freely around levels as Fish or even as Plant, Gungeon feels like a slow, clunky, and bloated experience in comparison.
>other roguelites I've conquered
such as?
Over 800 hours here, but i am kind of bored of gungeon now
The spells are nice. Only real issue I had with it is boss variety. Every run is the same bosses in a different order because plot. The order does change their difficulty though
NT, Isaac, Necrodancer, Slay the spire, etc.
Try out turbo mode in gungeon, ever since it was added, it became the new norm for me
tfw aria is 2hard4me
I’ll check it out, there were some bits of Gungeon I really appreciated and speeding it up would fix all the issues I had with it.
>synergies are next to non-existing, again compared to isaac. the only thing you got is different kinds of crazy guns but these are independent weapons, its not like collecting tear upgrades in isaac
Here's how I can tell you haven't played in a long time
>it gets good after 100 hours
sorry, no. 40 hours should be plenty for any roguelite
>Get hit on first boss
>"Well there goes my fucking flawless"
>Restart
>Repeat until I give up and close the game
I wish I hadn't watched a bunch of egg playing this before I bought it.
>also binding of isaac is better than both
wotl is slow as molasses and has a good deal of utter bullshit, like getting s. envy on the first floor/the fallen in the caves/etc but i suppose you could make a case for it
rebirth is awful though, its very easy to snowball so long as you get a good devil deal early, and if you don't, youre stuck with base stats until the womb
I said you haven't played IN a long time. They added a ton of synergies with their first major update.
Synthetik is better than both of them. Yes I shill it for free, it's that good.
Just play issac with antibirth also never think of getting afterbirth since it ruins the game.
Once you learn how to play use hard mode. Also it is still easy to die even if you get good items.
base game with antibirth? why is afterbirth shit?
