he mostly had single player games but we would take turns playing them when one of us died.

this pretty much lasted up until the end of the SNES days. he had an snes and i had a genesis, eventually got an snes myself though. so we still continued to visit each other to play different games.
as the playstation was just about to come out, he had to move because his parents separated and he left with his dad. I never saw or heard from him ever again.

So i played nes and gba emulators by myself
Oh and little fighter 2 with sister sometimes
Later I got a DSi and played games on it via flash cart by myself as well, since nobody had dsi, one friend had a homebrewed psp so we swapped sometimes
Later i got into TF2, and only one friend liked it until he didn't a year later, yet i kept played until I got to Mid in the European TF2 League with my new internet friends.
Now good at twitchy shooters i played csgo really good after learning the meta, so i tried to play with irl friends since it's the big normie game and it was fun to be good, though i later quit gaming and got a gf, job and uni, so now i just play my homebrewed switch while commuting and with my girlfriend when we have time to relax after sex
