What are your favorite Sonic games (for whatever reasons)?

Yeah, I think the bad levels heavily outweigh the good ones, but when they're really good, I dig them.
Cosmic Fall is really neat in concept (though maybe it wasn't that good and I'm just remembering the GREAT soundtrack for it, not really sure, maybe you can tell me.) and you already mentioned two of the other really good ones.

It has awful voice acting, terrible physics to the point of lacking them, and the mission structure is antithetical to playing efficiently.
Less egregious is how the true story must be unlocked. I agree it should be hidden behind a playthrough, but *one* playthrough, how the player wanted to do it, should have been enough. Forcing them to do things they'd rather not 8 times is just moronic. The replay value should have come naturally from the gameplay, which unfortunately, Shadow the Hedgehog doesn't hold up at all to SA2, or even SA.

The aesthetics being a dealbreaker is an utter meme. The story isn't even that bad. The developers just failed on the technical end of making a well functioning game that feels nice to play.

I find it hard to believe she used to be good because looking at the rest of her gallery will reveal nothing but really amateur, probably straight up bad fanart.
I wanted to believe there was more to her, but she's not a great artist.

Outside of the classics, I'm actually oddly partial to Sonic Heroes. The reason I think it doesn't get much recognition is because its a terrible game that I only like for nostalgia purposes. If I were to try to make it a better game, I would try, you know, fixing it. So that it actually works the way it's obviously supposed to.

Sonic has not gotten more popular, it's just a matter of kids who grew up with the shitty Sonic games coming of age and concentrating themselves in one place. And since there's a lot of Sonic related activity on chan boards, they tend to come here. Sonic is more popular than Mario on these boards, arguably. I doubt you would find that to be true anywhere else on the internet outside of deviantart or Sonic/Sega specific sites.

I already have one; it's your problem if you don't have access to a completed save file to just pick and choose which you wanna play through

Plus, Shadow is a really short game---you can play all of Sonic-like stages from SA and SA2 and get a better mechanical experience than doing just Shadow the Hedgehog's.
Again, there's nothing really wrong with the aesthetic experience.

I love SA1 and SA2 but I really feel like they were on to something with Generations (Not the 2D stages though those were good). It's by no means a difficult game, but blasting through stages was fun and trying to get better times and hit all the shortcuts just right felt very satisfying. On top of being able to select your own music for the different stages it was just a blast. Colors is good too but I don't like the power up gimmicks, just having Sonic and being fast as fuck is enough.

Yes, I have played all of them and still own physical copies of them in the box. They're not good. Bad physics, poor, monotonous stage design, awful music, and tacky, cheap looking graphics. Fine if you were a child in 2002 looking to play some Sonic on the go (though even the first Game Gear game would be a better option), but not worth playing in 2019 unless you're some sort of die-hard Sonic fan.

Favourite Sonic games are Unleashed and CD. I like the combat, exploration and platforming with the werehog and the fast stages with day sonic. I like the time travel aspect in CD, the art style of the levels, and the exploration.

Unleashed didn't get good recognition because people took 1 look at the werehog and noped the fuck out because it seemed weird and didn't give it a chance. It could've been made a better game if they explained the importance of medals better (and maybe lowered the required amounts.) There needed to be more day content to balance things out, and it needs a steam port to help with the lag. CD doesn't play like a normal Sonic level where you go from A to B so I think that's why it didn't get good recognition. To make it better it needed better bosses, and maybe a toggle button for time travelling so you don't time travel by accident and waste a sign post.

I'd argue SA1 had the better physics, especially with the more classic style of level design. Beyond abusing glitches SA2 doesn't have the same capacity for shortcuts as SA1.

The game also has a lot of interesting ideas. It, unironically, gets the closest to translating the momentum and physics of the classic games out of all the 3D games. The isometric camera fucked it all up. If the game was developed with more time, and strictly for the Saturn, it could've been something really special.
