Why was this game so heavily overlooked Yea Forums?

It was buggy on launch but they patched it out pretty quickly. Is the singple-player FPS/RPG/Adventure genre just dead?
I mostly just hear about how people hate it. I loved it though. Put 45 hours into it before I finished it. Amazing atmosphere. Right up there with Alien Isolation as one of the best games this gen

i guess its cause it doesn't really trend new ground
but probably due to single player games generally dying
i hope it was at least hope it wasn't an entire flop. i mean they reused a lot of assets so probably wasn't that expensive
Because Prey came out like 15 years ago, it was an okay game but there wait was too long.
Bethesda didnt know how to market it. I didnt even know it was by the Dishonored guys until after it came out. Re using the name Prey only caused more confusion.
The marketing was garbage. People thought it was yet another shitty reboot, when it had absolutely no relation to the original Prey. The trailers also didn't really do a good job of conveying what the game actually was.
It's great, I really liked it!
It caused my laptop to overheat so I can't play it anymore...
some people on Yea Forumsee hate it but the majority say it's one of the best games in recent memory (at least in prey threads)

the single player genre is dead
only something that has as much marketing as an exclusive title from Sony or Nintendo
or something that has a lot of hype around it like DMCV or Kingdom Hearts 3 could sell
no way DMC6 will sell that well if it insists on being a single player game
We really don't know the budget of this game
but Single player games can't really survive as AAAs
Bethesda should make their games the way THQ expects their games to sell, they apparently were actually happy with how Darksiders 3 sold
