LOL
Lisa
No one said anything about hollow knight you baboon.
My life was all a lie when I found out Shovel Knight is actually a 3D game.
>Probably one of the best games in its genre
>Fucking dies on release with no sales and its developer stops making games in that genre
It's not fair
The only way The Messenger could be more of a generic indie game was if it had a kickstarter.
Machines just don't have 2D hardware, 3D can do everything 2D can and more.
I mean, I guess you could write straight to the screen buffer, but it'd run at 2fps on the 3DS.
Wish it had sold better. Playing multiplayer matches against other people was fucking great
Papers please is the shit
Spelunky
Nuclear Throne
Mark of the ninja
Dungeon defenders 1
Charlie murder
Death road to canada
Hotline miami
This game is a solid masterpiece of its genre.
Iconoclasts
LiEat
Duskers
FTL
The story on Iconoclast is waaaay too try hard for my taste.
Furi
Is it surprising? Arcade style games always sell like total shit, Nex Machina is actually extremely popular compared to its "peers". Look at Bleed 2 or Fight N Rage.
Anyway BallisticNG for me, what an amazing game.
Freedom Planet
I thought it was pretty simple despite being interesting. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm curious why it comes off as try hard to you.
Someone redpill me. Is this game good?
Imagine being this poster
It's good but it's no FZero-GX on original hardware.
It's far better IMO, always preferred Wipeout. It's faster, too
I've just started fleshing out my GC collection a little, is GX worth picking up still for someone with no f-zero experience?
Lord help me, I'm back on my bullshit again:
>Voidspire Tactics (turn-based tactics with exploration)
>Until I Have You (Cyberpunk action-platformer)
>Unavowed (point&click)
>Thumper (psychedelic rhythm)
>Sword With Sauce (abandoned ninja/Captain America simulator)
>Super Cloudbuilt (best platformer of the decade)
>Strike Suit Zero (mecha-flight sim mashup)
>Spark the Electric Jester (the best Sonic game we've had in 20 years)
>Sora (bullet hell weeb shmup)
>One Way Heroics (strategic roguelite)
>One Finger Death Punch (those stickman videos you used to watch on Newgrounds. Those ones.)
>Lost Technology (Risk-style RTS)
>Long Live the Queen (Schadenfreude: the Visual Novel)
>Last Dream (Final Fantasy I but >rpgmaker)
>Khimera: Destroy All Monstergirls (Megaman but with punching, also totally free)
>Kero Blaster (remember Cave Story?)
>Grapple (physics-based puzzle platformer)
>Furi (action/bullet hell/boss rush/souls-like/buzzword/buzzword)
>Fight'n'Rage (side-scrolling beat 'em up. Come for the waifus and furry genocide, stay for the great gameplay)
>Environmental Station Alpha (metroidvania)
>DEADBOLT (2D tactical action)
>Darkwood (Poland simulator, also survival horror)
>Cthulhu Saves the World (parody RPG older than most of Yea Forums's userbase)
>BLACK BIRD (bizarre arcadey something or other)
>Battle Brothers (hardcore turn-based tactics and friend simulator)
If there's not at least one indie title on that list that appeals to you, I will be upset.
>Accidentally leaving on the 'story' mode with the voiced cutscenes
Jesus that was a mistake
reminder the saturn did this entire scene in just 2D and basically 3D is fucking gay
Yeah, F-Zero experience doesn't mean that much because GX doesn't play like the original or X beyond the very basics.
Finally bought it yesterday, and I am loving it. For once, Yea Forums wasnt shit
Is it at least fun?
King of Cards WHEN?
These are natural lines of dialogue and do not at all feel as though they were written by someone who hasn't ever interacted with a human bean before
The physics are all 2D and the graphics are only "3D" if you modify the camera that's being used. If this qualifies as 3D then any game that uses a Z-axis to determine rendering order would qualify too.
I would bet within a month of the end of the current 50% off sale they're doing, which ends on the 22nd
it's fun if you enjoy doing sidequests to make this gender neutral character get together with their boyfriend
The definition of "good" — or, rather, the threshold for what qualifies as good — scales with price, in my opinion.
If I had paid $60 for Devil Daggers, I probably would have had buyer's remorse. But instead, I paid $1, not just for Devil Daggers but for two other games as well. That's pretty great. Honestly, I probably would have been happy paying even more than the full price of $5 for Devil Daggers, because it's that good, but the $1 bundle happened so I got it for less. Maybe a better example would be Pinstripe, which I got with three other games from a $1 bundle; I effectively paid $0.25 for it. If I had paid ACTUAL MONEY for this game, I might have been disappointed. But for $0.25...? I was happy, despite it being just a generic indie platformer with good voice acting.
I guess my point is that, when you're buying $1 bundles, it's really easy to say that an indie game is good. I have lots of indie games which I thought were good. But anyone who missed the $1 bundles from which I got them would probably disagree.
People who pirate everything probably have a different perspective, because then everything is free. But, as long as I'm buying things... well, let's say I have $60 to spend. I can't really say I'd be happier with one single AAA game than with 60 indie games.
You already posted it OP
>doesn't lurk enough
>dares to post
lol retards
Fuck, oh well.
bought it months ago and was sitting in my library.
Super meatboy is still the coolest indie game,im really dissapointed by shitty super meatboy forever looks
actually everyone in this pic was a good indie game back then except for braid that shit started the trend of stupidly pretentious indie games
Katana ZERO was really fun, albeit short.
OST was great, too. Wears its heart on its sleeve with its Hotline Miami inspiration, but pulls it off really well and doesn’t feel like a knock-off.
It irks me as well. I'm a fan of indie games and pixel art. I'd purchase and play it if it came with a patch to remove all unnecessary dialogs.
If you'd have told me in 2012 that yooka laylee would be a steaming pile of shit and a hat in time would end out easily fitting into the top 10 3d platformers of all time I would have never believed you.

I will continue shilling Hadean Lands until I find someone else who's played it.
I've only played like three of the games on that list, but they're all great, so I have to assume you know what you're talking about.
Extended list because I love you and want you to have a good time:
>Breath of Death VII (Undead RPG made by the same team as Cosmic Star Heroine and Cthulhu Saves the World)
>KO Mech (a 2D game about flying and punching made by a Yea Forumsirgin)
>Marrow (a horror-themed metroidvania)
>Miasmata (a relaxing and immersive survival game about exploring the wilderness and making and taking dubious drugs)
>MOTHERGUNSHIP (Borderlands, but you build your own guns)
>Nelo (stylish 3D action game. Didn't quite grab me the way some of these other titles have, but I know someone else will like it more than me)
>The Quest (old, OLD-school, Gregor-tier RPG. Mod-friendly)
>Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale (Dungeon Crawler with a twist)
>Rochard (fun 2D puzzle game with an outstanding soundtrack)
>RUINER (cyberpunk action-shooter)
>Sunless Sea (JUST DO IT)
>Synthetik: Legion Rising (top-down shooter/roguelite)
>Tower of Time (Real time with pause CRPG)
>The Void (psychological horror)
>Warbanners (turn-based tactics)
>Wuppo (a cute)
loved this game
is this post ironic
REEEEEEEEEEEE GO BACK TO DISCORD, SEETHING TRANNY
Dusk.
It's probably my favorite game on the gamecube.
I must have played 30ish hours (and reset progress a few times at various updates) and still have yet to beat it
Das some good shit right there
>it's actually good
did everyone fall for the meme that indie games can only be political pixelshit or are people finally playing video games on this board
>no mention of Isaac
Unironically
I personally didn’t enjoy it very much. I made it to the (first) final boss in something like 10-15 hours, but just never came back to it.
It feels like it has an identity crisis, rewarding you for going fast by having time-locked gates with goodies, but also wanting you to take your time and explore each (randomly-generated) stage.
Nice animations, though, and generally controlled well. I just grew bored of it. Maybe worth picking up on a sale.
isaac looks and controls like shit and is inferior to half of the millions of other twinstick rouge-similars
It's good but it's not 30$ dollars good. Maybe if it went 60% off then I could recommend it, but not at full price. It's a weird metroidvania-roguelike-darksoul hybid and it doesn't deliver the experience of either a metroidvania or a roguelike or a dark soul clone, like it tries to do too many things but fails to hit the sweet spot, but the gameplay does deliver a constant stream of non-stop combat with extremely varied weaponry.
Good all the way up until the part where it stopped being a Ninja Gaiden clone. Then it became ass.
It did one thing well, it should've just kept doing it.
you did, just now
Shut up Matt
There are a lot of gems in indie gaming. When you compare it to the state of Western AAA there has probably been much better releases by independent developers than AAA ones in the last decade.
Also Stardew Valley
what can i do in isaac that I can't do in nuclear throne? gungeon?
This who the hell is making in the west decent single player AAA apart from rockstar, sony and CDPR?
>inb4 they all shit
Yeah the alternative is yearly Ubi tech demos.
You mean besides coming before both of those games and setting the path for them being made?
1.Play a crying naked boy.
You fucking retard.

Lurk
>a shit game is worth playing simply because it came first
I'd even quibble somewhat with the ones you listed. I think Spiderman is the best Sony made game, but God of War is trash and Horizon is an 8/10. I really enjoy RDR2 but it is inferior to it's preceeding game. Also GTA 5 is hot garbage.
Nice counter argument. It is a shit game but I won't say how it is shit or why.
There are people who liked it ironically?
did anyone go do ACEN? I follow the artist and I guess the expansion was playable there
Not that guy but you're a faggot because your only argument is Binding of Isaac came before. Atari Boxing came before Punch out but that doesn't mean that Atari Boxing isn't hot garbage.
Puzzle games:
>Steven's Sausage Roll
Expensive, but if you're into puzzle games basically everyone agrees it's the perfect puzzle game. You hold a fork and have to move around cooking sausages.
>Snakebird
This was made by two people who'd previously only worked on art for video games. As you'd expect, it's very cute. You control a (or several) snakebirds that move around like in Snake, picking up food to grow. But there's gravity. Level design is solid.
>Baba Is You
Probably the one here that everyone's already heard of, since Yea Forums realised how good of a game it was and kept generals up for like a fortnight after release. Move words around to make rules that define the level you're in! There's a free demo if you want to test it.
>Escape Goat (1 & 2)
Pretty old games, fairly nondescript puzzle platformer. High quality, though.
>Desktop Dungeons
Procedurally-generated levels so it's a bit iffy calling this a puzzle game, but it's like if a roguelike level were a puzzle game instead. Lotta HP / regen management involved, the game encourages you to pull stunts to kill enemies well over your own level in order to gain bonus XP, etc. There's an alpha version for this game available on the internet somewhere.
>Full Bore
You play as a boar in a platformer, roaming the world and collecting gems. Another one I have a hard time describing, but it's good gameplay. Only discovered it through jayisgames.com. Hey, you guys remember jayisgames?
>Toki Tori 2+
I feel everyone got this game for free at some point. And the company went bust after making it? Surprisingly, despite that, it's really good! A pretty big world with collectables throughout, so each individual puzzle is pretty well-integrated with the rest of the world.
>Hadean Lands
You wake up with no memories on a spaceship, and have to use magic rituals to figure things out. It makes you alter rituals to fit your aims / resources. Best game at making you feel like a wizard.
>Other game exist
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
His only argument is that they're better with no reason given, in fact he want me to make his argument. . Try again kiddo.
FUCK THIS BITCH FOR THINKING I'LL BUY HER BROKEN STATUE FOR 70 PIX
I sure hope not.
ITT: Several people REE away discussion about certain games that have "that scene" which triggered them way more than it should therefore the whole game is horrible.
Papers, Please and Obra Dinn
Lucas Pope's indie games are the only good ones
ALL OF THE DAY BRO
they're better because isaac looks and controls like shit like I said in my first post, dickhead
Synthetik. Never see it mentioned on here, but it's way better than Nuclear Throne and Gungeon in my opinion. Gunplay in it is probably the most satisfying I've ever seen for a top down game, but it's also a casual filter since game is balls tough and the reload mechanics take some getting used to.
I don't see any argument for Isaac not being overrated other than "muh trail Blazer". Dilate you fucking tranny. Isaac looks like shit, and it doesn't emphasize skill but rather luck, tipping further on the luck side than the other games mentioned.
Came here to post this
Yea Forums is the very hypersensitive assholes they meme about
it's a perpetual motion machine of cringe feeding itself
>it was good until it stopped copying Thing I Like and became interesting
It was good the whole way through faggot
what is this in reference to?
I lost faith in Yooka-Laylee the second i saw how blocky the characters were. Rare managed to make the characters round and proper on the N64 despite the lack of polygon, and instead you have the shit artstyle of Nuts&bolts.
Meanwhile one of the guy working on AHIT was the same that did minigames for g-mod tower so my hopes were high despite expecting a mediocre game. Turns out it was a labor of love
>They still haven't released their sell out battle royale game
Shameful, they will probably close when that bombs as well.
Cave Story
Rabi-Ribi

>it's another metroidvania
>it's another "inspired by classic 90s series" platformer
Literally nothing wrong with these.
I find Isaac to be more rewarding and interesting than Gungeon. I just don't /get/ Enter the Gungeon. I haven't played Nuclear Throne because it never goes on sale.
I actually like most of EGS' games. Recettear is by far their most objectively good game though. Fuck I wish they'd make a sequel, or at least release Territoire already.
ITT: the same indie games of the last years spammed over and over again
Super Daryl Deluxe, got this with humble monthly and played for 14 hours right now, and i fucking hate metroidvanias, don't expect an hollow knight level of details or animations but fuck me it's fun to play, you don't have a main attack button and instead you have to assign 4 skills you can use (i can choose from over 25 skills right now, i think i'm halfway through the game), it has levelling too much like castelvanias, but probably most people will shit on the mc's design which is original as fuck imho, whole thing reminds me of stick of truth
Soon to be this one.

Why don't more indie devs make 3d platformers inspired by ps1/n64 classics? There's A Hat in Time and fuck all else.
Because it takes forever. Especially when your staff is only double digits.
Decent 3D is hard. Why do you think indie dev is plagued by low effort nu-retro pixel garbage?
Supper smash bros

Clive n wrench is in development at the moment and gives me big Toy Story 2 vibes
Been playing CrossCode for quite a while since it was randomly mentioned in a thread here once.
It's an arpg based on golden age games like Secret of Mana or Terranigma. It's got a pretty deep system for customizing your combat style and it's actually difficult, both in terms of combat and the puzzles. Only shame with the puzzles is that sometimes, there are issues with the signposting. You walk into a room and you have no idea what the game even asks of you, or you dismiss something as impossible, but you were just supposed to hit a specific angle to ricochet correctly. Those are just frustrating as all hell.
Story is in an mmo setting, and it's kinda nice to see that, very often, you run into players that are straight up better than you. People talking about how they found all the chests in an area, talking about how a casual crutch weapon in the early game should finally be abandoned by their less experienced friend, pvp duels with twinks, stuff like that. It also lets you invite people to your party, which ties into the variable difficulty system the game has.
It's overall really fucking great though, from the Combat Style rating that pushes you to pull greater and greater groups to get more exp/drops, to parkouring all over a map to find every last little area and quests that push your shit in and force you to git gud. There is even a sidequest that forces you to learn dodge cancelling after the second main dungeon.
Pic related is straight up the level up animation from Terranigma. I love it.
I like everything by Skautfold. You all should play pic related, it's a "demo" of their "2d bloodborne".
Cook Serve Delicious 1 and 2
>Unironically
The image you posted. It's my favorite game. Other gems include:
Hotline Miami, Nuclear Throne, Cave Story, Lisa, Hollow Knight, Axiom Verge, and probably like 20 others I can't remember right now.
Ah man, this takes me back. Good shit. I still need to check out a few of these like Aquari.... Aquarius? Fuck forgot the name but it looked neat. Been sitting on my wishlist for years
I don't know if you're still here but that game is fun to play, but it's story and characters are LITERALLY feminism/sjw/gay etc. Not the kind of overreacting Yea Forums does to minor things, but it's literally unironically the developers sexuality awkwardly placed into the game.
>Good indie game
>Posts Shilled Knight.
I adored it back in the day, but as the years have gone on it's fallen lower and lower down my list. I'll always have a softspot for it though, just wish McMillen would move on already and make something new, or finish one of his 50 million fucking other projects. I was so excited for Mewgenics back in the day and followed its development closely, still pissed he just dropped it out of no where to make more shitty Isaac DLC.
>posts a Nintendo reaction
I'll get to it at some point. thanks user.
Aquaria. 11 years old, but still a great video game.
I think all three are good in their own rights. Isaac has a heavier emphasis on item combos and dungeon crawling, Nuclear Throne has more an emphasis on fast, high speed, adrenaline pumping action, Gungeon feels like both but I would say it's different enough to be its own thing, and that all three are worth their salt on their own.
Favorite game to play when I came back home from partying and everyone fell asleep back when I had a social life.
>the "Shovel Knight cameos too much in other games so his actual game is bad"
Fuck off. Fun game, fun DLC campaigns.
Rabi-Ribi has absolutely zero right to be as great as it is, it has the ironic weeb aesthetic but it's an unironically great metroidvania
Looks cool but

If you can handle the characters having a really awkward scene talking about polyamorous gay sex and wanting to suck cock near the end of the game, you'll like it.
Hyper Light Drifter is still one of my favorites.
And also the game that absolutely NO ONE has heard of despite it being pretty solid and charming: Fly'n. Not the best game ever, but it's always stuck in my mind.
I mean... I understand where you are coming from.
But AAA titles aren't exactly brimming with innovation either.
At least indies keep spitting out new IPs instead of just grinding the trusty old ones into the ground.
And there's obviously a demand for metroidvanias and platformers that AAA companies refuse to satisfy.
Who's Matt?
Enter the gungeon. There's a lot of good indies. More good indies now than aaa games
How did we manage to have games with more and better levels 2 decades ago but its hard to manage that now when we have far more tools, and money to throw into development?
Like yooka laylee had half of the levels banjo did and literally all of them are shit tier in comparison with the jungle being on par with rust-bucket bay
The original title is "Shrouded in Sanity", "Freebirth" is because it's the demo, but ESL here, so I woudn't care anyway.
Good timing, I'm playing through again. How do I do Specter Knight's Streamlined Grind challenge, though? That last jump at the end, I always go right through the wind, instead of being lifted and hit the enemies below. Do I have to jump a certain way?
Lack of will to create something good, and it's easier to shit out content in small burst for money. Also programmers have to think outside the box compared to those who developed their own tools to get the result they want
>cthulu saves the world
I didn't realize anybody else had actually played that game. Good taste my man
It's shit
Naw, everyone loves it
What part of being yet another indie metroidvania is interesting. Being a copy of 20 year old game done with modern twists was interesting.
Divinity Original Sin
I've never been able to get into these arcade games, but I think I got top10 or top50 score in the first campaign (forest?). Actually learning how to play the game and get the scores, learning where all the extra shit was really fun.
Yeah it is. Obra Dinn too. I just really like the idea of making a game of some ordinary job. I also love having a lot of small mechanics that you have to juggle around, like the book in Obra Dinn or the rules/passports in Papers please.
t. sameanon
tried the demo as well and its great.
widgets.gamejolt.com
I'm ride or die with Thumper. What a fucking great rhythm game. Also Furi was great.
Thats the best part of arcade games, and Nex Machina has a very simple scoring system compared to some 90's shmups. It's great fun, especially if you have a friend to compete with.
Is Grimoire good?
Deep rock Galactic.
Rock and stone to the bone!
You play as a space dwarf, mining the most hostile and deadliest planet in the known universe. 1-4 player coop ala left for dead, 15-30 minute missions with different objectives. 100% destructible world, leveling, gear upgrades, and GODDAMN SPACE DWARVES

Still haven't played a good indie game to this day. They all feel empty and without soul.
Nah, I agree with user. I loved the NG section, but it really sucked as a Metroidvania. And I usually love Metroidvanias.
Kentucky Route Zero. That was an interesting one. In my 3-year indie game kick, there were a lot of "ok this was better than I thought, but...."s, but this is the only one that really hooked me.
yeah this game's really good
too bad the fucking broken items questline had such a shit ending, still makes me mad
>not a guy to play indie games, only played Cave Story and Celeste.

>keep going with the game
>get to the bit with the broken ivory machine
>actually stop for a bit and think about how it'd fucking suck to just lose your arms or some shit because "you arms were worthy, but we didn't want you specifically"
>finally get up to the point where you fight mother
>at this point in the game, I was enjoying it but it was still just a bit of fun
>beat the boss and then see the oncoming aftermath
>still keeping my head firmly outside of the game world, it's just another game to me
>run up the stairs in the tower during the next scene
>notice the background for once, the murals of mother and her edges
>notice the religion that these people were believing in, the thing that I, as the player, technically destroyed
>noticed that the rapture is coming for these people
>run into the next room and just see all the higher ups fighting each other, praying to be saved, one of them even shot himself
>all while youtube.com
>just stood there and didn't move for a while, taking in the whole scene
That part hit me so hard when I was playing that I instantly changed my opinion of this game. I really fucking loved it by the end and did all the extra bosses and shit. A lot of other people had that opinion as well and the same scene changed their opinion. This was the scene that really opened my eyes to just what Robin was doing in the game. Kinda wish I played it when it came out to discuss it with people, even though it came out a year ago I feel no one talks about it.
it was really short and lacked depth tbqhh
still fun as fuck
It's good, but so grindy that I understand completely why it's putting off some people.
Werner Wermin was my favorite boss, mainly because of that twist at the end of the fight.

Have you played the sequel? It just got released and I am hesitant to pick it up.
Based Rabi-Ribi posters.
GODS WE ARE GETTING STRONGER.
This looks like an easier surf game.
No such thing OP.
I need to update pic related with more images instead of just obscure ones from 2017.
That's because it's Supercharged, a mode where you have practically infinite jet pack, one of the main 5 modes of the game. Normal mode just doesn't look impressive in webms. The game is absolutely fantastic with extremely minor flaws such as lifes system.
I don't get the boner for platformers like cloudbuilt, it's literal braindead memorization, miss the boost sphere because you want to find some other pattern in the map? game over, because fuck you for wanting to have even a bit of freedom in a 3d platformer. A Hat in time shits all over this garbage design, hell, even youtube bait games like Speedrunners are ten times better.
Works fine with my SN30 Pro controller.
>Still no new info on the DLC
You know, I'm generally all-aboard with game companies saying "the game is what it is and speedruns are what they are, don't patch the mechanics, just let them evolve." But Cloudbuilt speedruns make me sad. That's not what the game was supposed to be.
Not that Cloudbuilt made the best use of what it was. The actual levels it made were pretty linear w/ shortcuts and the most fun I had was the open-area debug room you unlocked at the end.
Oh well.
Grim Dawn
Valdis Story
>Pic related
If you are that bad that you don't have genuine understanding of the system and precise timing - it's not the game's fault. There are plenty of both intentional and not shortcuts in the game. While I don't speedrun the game, I did S ranks on most stages so I understand how the game works.
You are not wrong, I think grenade jumping is awful mechanic that should've only worked in pathfinder, that's why normal speedruns are mostly shit where people just jump from the very start of the stage to the very end in one continuous boost. Original had slope jumps, this one has grenade jumps and I don't know what is worse.
FTL and Into The Breach are indeed excellent games.
Rabi-Ribi
I just remembered Lone Survivor. I don't know how good it is but I liked it at the time. Checked up to see if the dev has made anything else since 2012, just music I think.
Haven't played recently, but I remember liking Dead Cells.
Cortex Command is good albeit barebones, mod support has helped its reception.
I remember Awesomenauts being a lot of fun but I think the player base is dead and I have no idea how balanced it is with the new characters they've added throughout the years. Its f2p now so consider giving it a try, I put like 500+ hours in it years ago.
Super Hexagon is a fun game and I remember liking the soundtrack. Not much longevity to it though.
That's all I can think of at the moment.
>Rabi-Ribi
this game is like hollow knight, except actually good
You know, I'm reading what you're typing, but I'm pretty sure all I read was "it's like hollow knight except it's actually anime."
tfw i ran out of browns
Being anime is one of the hundred reason to why this game is superior to hollow knight, but the fact that hollow knight is absolutely garbage is also one of them
also redout
>muh precise timing
Can't give a shit if i don't have fun, don't bitch about the game flopping if they don't care about making fun a number one priority
Nice.
It was fun for me. I think AAA games might be more suited for you since getting gud is not one of the things you find fun.

I love Rabi-Ribi with every fiber of my body, but I never played Hollow Knights.
Do you think I would enjoy it?
FPBP. I hope we get a Terraria 2 announcement at E3.
Vagante is pretty great.
I hate the term indie so much, but anyway
Cuphead
Undertale
Hollow Knight
Baba Is You
most overrated indie game of all time, only good if you're the kind of person who likes borderlands
Rabi fucking Ribi, the real platformer of the decade
Hey, I'm not defending Hollow Knights. Quite the contrary; I think if you said "I'm Hollow Knights but more anime" I would say "I'm 'stay the way from me', but 'really stay the hell away from me.'"
I'm just amazed that people are using either thing as a lure.
Hollow Knight is absolutely garbage in comparaison, pirate it to see if you'll like it but I'll recommend La-Mulana instead, it's not the same game but it's also one of the best metroidvania, Hollow knight is baby first metroidvania
Are you me?
They're nothing alike. What are you talking about?
I didn't say that Rabi Ribi is only Hollow Knight but anime, I said it was Hollow Knight but actually good, you decided yourself what you wanted to read there, you can switch artstyle with both games and Rabi-Ribi would still be superior even if Rabi-Ribi would lose some quality since being able to actually identify levels on the fly while exploring is important since in Hollow Knight it's a complete mess of an artstyle
Yeah because one is good and the other is trash but same genre
I've beaten La-Mulana but you can't discredit all other Metroidvanias just because they're easier. Also, La-Mulana is a lot different than your typical Metroidvania and if you're gonna compare it against many others in the genre, I'd say it even misses the point a little. It takes the approach of giving you a shitload of mostly boring items to unlock very few areas in the world, while games that do a better job of being similar to Metroid give you fewer but more interesting powerups to open up many new paths.
Where did I ever talk about difficulty?
the music reminds me of rayman 3
Being in the same genre is too minor a similarity to make sense of this post . What's the logic between this comparison?
This was Yea Forums's favorite game when I first started coming here. "Capitalism, Ho!" memes fucking everywhere. I still haven't played it.
>anime artstyle put me off from buying it for weeks
>wonderful gameplay made me a Rabi-Ribi fanatic for life
Rabi-Ribi is truly a lovely title.
Are you autistic user? not that user but it's obviously just either a bait or quick jab at hollow knight since this game is talked being talked about every day here despite being trash
Faster Than Light
It's shit.
hollow knight is better than almost every single game posted itt

Hollow knight fanatics are embarassing

they can't even shitpost correctly
Yes because those are normal talking points if you are a mentally ill faggot that only talks to other mentally ill freaks on discord and other sites that the mentally ill congregate.
not even close to a fanatic. i played it through twice. its way better than most the garbage posted itt. no idea why theres hollow knight troll bait

I feel ya, I hate all three of those. Indie games are nice because you can get experimental and unique gameplay, yet half of the shit in this thread is tired old shit like platformer#9001. Give me more shit like FTL, Starsector, or Exanima.
>its way better than most the garbage posted itt
Wrong.

only this way for the sake of 3DS.

Nothing wrong with anime. You have to go back.
>less than 10 hours long
Not an objectively negative thing.
How embarassing, fanatic.
Cloudbuilt is 1D platformer because you have close to none freedom where to go. They made amazing basic movement mechanics, but used them in in the most wrong way possible.

It's literally one autist that hates HK and goes around shilling a random indie game instead when shitposting, some time ago it was la mulana for example. Now it's staining rabi ribi with his shitty baits
Maybe someday he'll realise how obnoxious he is
Maybe nobody likes hollowniggers and you guys should have your own /vg/ containment thread instead of talking about your western reddit game here

there's really not that many GOOD indie metroidvanias. ANd the messenger is one of the best ones, so I'm not complaining.

I like indie psychological horror side-scrolling adventure games
Perler bead sprites are pretty cool, I made a few of them though some of them look a bit off like pic related.

Factorio is a lot of fun, you'll either love it or hate it though.
>I'm too smoothbrained to play metroidvanias
Well it's gonna be on sale soon enough, just be patient. Though I would argue it's worth for the base price. It's a well polished and long game with a great value/price ratio.
It was fun to do a no "dungeon run" and maxing your combos. Hard at first but you swim in cash after a couple of days.

idk I really enjoyed robins simple outlook verses the trivial; having characters around her be so intense and cutthroat and her just being a heroine of purity. especially makes the gap for the powerful and corrupt verses the poor and rapturous. The contrast its pretty fucking great to me.
regardless of how obnoxious it was, braid was a good game
>still no sequel to /ss/ in the countryside
>still no fucking daytona pc
The game was pure kino until the very end, when this fucking "joke out of nowhere" final boss ruined literally everything. What the fuck the developer was ever thinking?
Dipped a little too hard into the random access humor.

The game is good as long as you know what you're getting into.
If you only like the ARPG parts, the puzzles might be really frustrating. If you only like puzzles and exploring, the combat system might be really frustrating.
You should only get this game if you actually like both components.
That said, i think the game is at its best when it embraces the meta narrative of being a game inside an MMO instead of just playing like a self aware single player MMO
The whole Vermillion Wasteland sequence was pure kino

one game I haven't actually played but looks cash
called serpents of the staglands
lets be honest here, most of you just hate Hollow Knight because it got popular and you need to be contrarian
It's a SOTN / Order of Ecclesia clone with shitty level and world design, uninteresting time stop mechanic, and terrible characters and story. Avoid it.
Get Touhou Luna Nights instead.
I dont think there has ever been a game I wanted to like more didnt.
I hated hollow knight from day 1 so maybe you should rework your npc argument
>You should only get this game if you actually like both components.
I don't like puzzles and still finished the whole thing. What now faglord?
I wish the dungeon running was more fleshed out. Most of the characters are useless
It's shallower than it looks
Tried it, couldn't get into it.
What ever happened to the Anubis fag?
why the fuck is realm of the mad god there of all things
Yep, good game. Could use some fanservice though.
Vision Soft Reset, it's an hidden metroidvania gem, basically Metroid + Majora's Mask + Zero Escape. It's short but the time-travelling mechanics are very interesting.
Also, Environmental Station Alpha.
Kenshi was FOTM for a while so I'm sure most people know about it, but it surprised me with how much it sucks you in. The grind to level up characters is unreal if you're not using cheat mods or using prisoners as living punching bags, so that made me drop the game before I could get around to messing around with the factions, but I enjoyed my time with it.
Also, it has a really good if sparse OST, which I was not expecting.
its like a mix between the Braid era of shit indie development where they take one minor original gameplay element and draw it out with as many fads as possible to make an entire fucking game out of it and the YIIK era of shit indie development where you don't even need a game, especially not an original idea, just an aesthetic and a formula that's easy to copy
its a game that seems to only be an ersatz copy of a bunch of other much better things
as long as you aren't shitposting that half of the game is shit, whatever
Puzzles were overwhelming at some point and I think I used a visual guide for 1 instance of exploration on the gardens where the terrain perceiving issue was too much for me but I'm a brainlet who can't get past a single Layton game and finished the whole thing, both endings too.
Don't assume people won't like it at all because 1 aspect of the game seems tailored to a specific demographic. Game had a myriad other things that hooked me right back when puzzles sucked the fun out of it and that's what you should be highlighting.
Tokyo42
is that skin in the game? it needs to be unlocked?
He's working on a new game right now isn't he?
Wish I could handle horror. Got their previous game but I can't keep playing consistently 5 minutes in.

please fucking play rain world I'm begging you
you can play a game obviously more than once, but to do that especially in the case of HK you'd have to be a huge fan at least
This.
I don't even care if Streets of Rage 4 is any good - Fight 'n Rage has more than satisfied that itch for me.
Multiple playthrough paths, the three characters have great movesets, and although some of the extra modes aren't very fun, there are a lot of them so you can mix it up if you want.
why
> survival games
no thank you
I tried it before it blew up on Yea Forums and just couldn't get into it so I refunded it.
Fight 'n Rage was alright, the endings just were such a huge letdowns that it kind of pushed down my enjoyment.
Darkwood
Wait what there's a what now and it's how much
Its not real.
to be fair a second playthough of hk is horribly short.
>wow this is pretty good
>credits roll
>old school side scroller beat 'em up
>"The endings sucked"
To each their own, but the story has nothing to do with anything.
it's really good
yeah it's hard but if you take your time and learn shit, you can actually finish it
I just dont like sequel bait endings, it felt like all the beating em and upping was for nothing. Atleast in the old school beat em ups you save the girl at the end.
I HONESTLY tried but the controls feels to cumbersome. But the artstyle is very nice and SOULFUL, which is the reason I stayed with the game as much as I did.
Copy Kitty, it's absolutely fantastic, easily in my top ten favorite games. Has elements of Kirby, Megaman and a little Bangai-o but is very much it's own beast.
You collect and switch between three enemy powers at a time and can combine
them into a unique attack based on what powers you have. It's absolutely packed with content, not only does it have a hard mode with redone levels and bosses that essentially acts as the games sequel, it has a second character with their own unique play style and hard mode, a boss rush, an enemy compendium, and an endless mode with it's own unique level themes and bosses.
All of this made by only two people in like seven years. Everyone who's played it seems to love it, it's rated highly whenever I see it reviewed, but no one ever talks about it. One of those games that fell through the cracks, just tragic.
Graveyard Keeper.

This. That game couldn't be a bigger wipeout clone if it tried.
Bunny Must Die: Chelsea and the Seven Devils is an old bunny girl metroidvania. It inspired Rabi-Ribi.
This game was amazing. Not too serious, but serious and atmospheric enough when it wanted to be. Sound design and overall feel were amazing. The soundtrack is especially perfect for the foggy beach kind of theme it had going too. Probably going to play it again this summer.

>unironically great metroidvania
??? The metroidvania part (exploration/items) is shit, it is one of the worst metroidvania. It even have level scaling so the more items you find, the harder the bosses, wow thanks for rewarding the exploration. The graphics are also shit with its pixel size all over the place. They literally just resized the assets, for example just compare the pixel size of the characters with the background.
What it does have are great boss battles and artwork, but that's it.
Undertale. Suck my ass, post-election tourist.
Don't shit talk Rabi-Ribi's glorious movement tech you fuck.
I finished that game blind and didn't have issues with puzzles desu, you can easily work your way backwards from the goal which is always clear in the puzzle room.
and even though the last boss seemed a bit harsh at first, after a couple of attempts I actually beat him easily, it's difficult but really fair desu.
I played it and I agree it's shit, would love to get the touhou metroidvania if it were on gog.
The strike series. Desert/Jungle/Urban strike on the Megadrive. There's also Soviet/Nuclear Strike on the PS1 but I prefer the older ones.
I can't get into hyper light drifter, I love old school Zelda games and I love pixel art, but it's so fucking boring of a game desu
What's the point of having tracks when you don't touch them?
4 Elements Trainer
only in the last couple of levels the bosses started to get really unfair, for the most part they are excellent
