Stages too long
Bosses too long
Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still perfect and now has a high quality unofficial PC port

I still like it

I don't know if I'd say stages themselves were too long, but having 3 acts did drag things on. I totally get why they dropped down to 2

Sonic became gay.

/sthg/ shitposting.

Sonic Mania has 2 acts per zone
You might be thinking of CD which is megatrash

>people suddenly don't like Sonic Mania now
More like adventurefags shit on Mania because they're resentful about their "era" not being as well-liked as the classic one is.

Game is nearly two years old so we're at the stage where people are gonna look at it and say it was overhyped, overrated and nitpick it to death, then in another year and a half the shitpost cycle will circle around and it'll be liked again, bonus points if another shit Sonic game is announced to compare it to.

What about Mania 2 with more original levels this time? Or are the devs not competent enough to go beyond nostalgia level?

People who say Mania has bad bosses are just bad at them. The spider one in particular. The only one I dislike on replays is the puyo one.

no one really thinks the game is bad, get better bait

>they're resentful about their "era" not being as well-liked
This, 100%, OP. Adventure fans are insecure about their games since the reception is mixed at best and their games are often pinpointed as the downfall of the series while classicfags don't have to worry about that. Mania's overwhelmingly positive response triggers them because casual audience changed "Sonic was never good" to "Sonic was only good when it was 2D".
That said, I like both eras, but you're still gonna see people shit on me for saying the hard truth.

Nice bait, OP. Literally no one says that Sonic Mania is bad aside from the people that think the boss in your pic is completely broken and unbeatable, who're idiots.

Of course they are if you actually play the game. The rehashed levels were a mandate.

More like Sega demanded it had old zones in it.

>Implying Taxman/Stealth actually wanted all those throwback zones
All mandated by Sega.

>devs not competent enough to go beyond nostalgia level
The original levels are by and large the best parts of the game, user. Sega forced them to redo old levels and it shows how skilled they are when these "rehashes" are complete overhauls that change the way these levels play entirely and usually for the better.
Except for Hydrocity Act 1. What the FUCK were they thinking with that bubble shit?

i'm an adventurefag and i love mania
stop trying to get us to fight classicfans

The bubble gimmick in Hydrocity Act 1 was a gimmick taken from a level in one of the Game Gear games.

I'm not, user. A lot of these Mania hate threads are very clearly done by people who uphold the Adventure Games in extremely high regard. If it's a falseflag, it's a damn convincing one.
Sorry Adventurebro. I ain't trying to start a fight, I'm just explaining the situation to OP.

I'm not sure how you could not like Mania. It is essentially an official romhack, nostalgia panders way too hard, and plays itself too much, but it's classic Sonic. Nowhere near as good as S3&K, but it has no real flaws.

People still like it, they just never liked how Sega made it 2/3 reused levels and it's a wannabe Sonic 3 instead of proper Sonic 4 or 5.

It sucks being a fan of both when everyone else hates each other.
Why can't people just come together to laugh at archiefags or something?

Attached: 1477592592067.jpg (500x374, 43K)

Mirage saloon act 1happened
Makes the game unreplayable

Why cant we come together and frottage and cum at the same time?

Also puyo boss is fun the first time but really fucking annoying in replays

>Archiefags
I haven't read the comics, but some of the shit looks cool.
Plus it has my favorite Sonic girl.

Just spindash, hold down on the d-pad, and move up and down on the stick (or vice versa). Fuck that level, though. You're right.

I wish the AI wasn't retarded. I keep lining up a combo and Eggman just jobs immediately before anything happens. Shit's laughable.

Glorified romhack. Would never have cut it in the Saturn era as it relies entirely on nostalgia to sell itself.

Never liked mania(could not even finish it),2 and 3 are still pretty good though.

Some of the new levels were stinkers, some of the revisited levels were fatiguing, some of the music wasn't very good. Bosses got a bit tedious at times. It's a solid game, right up there with the original quadrilogy but is underwhelming in ways the original games are not. At times it can feel like marble garden but stretched for an entire game in terms of its design, spaciousness, gimmicks and quality, but at times it hits the highs of ice cap and casino night. It's a celebration of classic Sonic but it's also a celebration of things I've been playing for 25 years.

most 2D Sonic games are good
most 3D Sonic games are good
prove me wrong
>protip: you can't

If it were released during the Saturn era, Sega wouldn't have mandated the old stages, you retard.

>hmm what to do for this boss
>I know, let's just take the old boss and copypaste a random mini boss from another game on top of it
Why did they do this

>now has a high quality unofficial PC port
Wait what
Where? Link me up user

>some of the music wasn't very good
It has one of the best Sonic soundtracks. What are you talking about?

Attached: 1547330618358.png (540x720, 488K)

Sonic fans are fickle as fuck

Yeah the Sky Chase tribute is always a slog on replays. And the Puyo Puyo boss too.

If the Sonic fanbase is willing to tear into literally any decent game they get after years of shit and are still split on which games are actually """""""good""""""", maybe it's time to admit that Sonic was never good after all

Attached: 5.gif (555x555, 555K)

Not him but Hydrocity's theme doesn't even sound remixed. It just sounds like the original with a reverb added. I also found the boss theme underwhelming compared to the other games.

Fuck blue spheres

don't hold out on us duda

>third zone is just a boss arena
>too long
You absolutely fucking dense motherfucker
Sonic CD is Kino

There are more good Sonic games than there are bad ones

>Sonic CD is Kino
Nigger what
It's almost unanimously agreed to be the sonic game with the absolute worst level design. It also has the easiest bosses in the series.

>Sonic CD is ki-

Attached: latest[1].png (1680x1050, 269K)

>Hydrocity's theme doesn't even sound remixed
If you listen closely at the rearrangement, you can tell the differrence right away. The fall after the opening note is smoother, since the organ sound is updated. The horns also change it a good bit. The remixes, for the most part, weren't supposed to change things up all that much. The CD and Sonic 2 levels got special treatment because they didn't have Act 2 themes.
>I found Boss theme underwhelming compared to the other games
I don't like the second boss theme at all, but Ruby Delusions is not only my favorite boss theme in the series, but probably in my top 3 tracks overall.
youtube.com/watch?v=BlNqBy53_lo
A straight up perfect piece of music for my money.

fuck this zone
fuck this zone

By casuals
You need high IQ to see how genius CD really is

>The remixes, for the most part, weren't supposed to change things up all that much.
MM's songs are significantly different from the originals and they just so happen to be the best songs in the game.

If you dont like mania then you just don't like sonic games. Genuinely not sure how someone could hate it, does almost everything a good sonic game should; great stage design, fantastic soundtrack, best special stages in the series, playable super sonic, multiple characters that are all fun to play

Mania 2 is confirmed never happening right?
Devs got hired elsewhere or something?

Yeah, but you take a listen at the tracks for Flying Battery and Lava Reef and they're practically rearrangements with better instrumentation and nothing more. Except for the GENIUS decision to add a repetition of Lava Reef Act 1's breakdown, which made the song much less awkward.
I also agree on MMZ's tracks being stellar. Besides Boss 1 and Press Garden 1, they're my favorites by far.

>Get free brownie points for just shopping a gay flag in a character's hand
Hey, it's free publicity.

They started their own company. Doesnt mean Sega couldn't contract them to work on sonic

Why can't the special stages in sonic games be an actual test of how good you are at the game? It's always some completely different minigame. How am I supposed to practice if I only get one shot at a special stage each time, and there are a limited number of special rings in the game?

Companies pretending they have politics aside Ive learnt to not look into the fanbase too much, even in this site, it IS very much filled with gay furries

I love Blue Sphere, but making it the bonus game was a fucking mistake. It completely ruined the flow of stages. It didn't need to come back outside of side content.

But Sonic Mania had the best special stages by FAR in any Sonic game.

That has nothing to do with my post.

It's good, and the team behind it definitely demonstrated their love of classic Sonic in its design

But the levels drag on after a while, level transitions are ass because it's a mess of old and new levels, and the bosses are shit. Especially pre-changed Metal Sonic. Sonic 3&K is still the best Sonic game. But I'd like to see them take another crack at the formula.

Maybe its supposed to be a little difficult to get super sonic??? And play through the game more???

>would have never cut it in the Saturn era
Are you fucking retarded? Sonic Jam was lapped up because it was the ONLY 2D Sonic stuff on the system, and it's just a rom pack with a 3D extras menu. Mania would have done poorly critically because "3D is the future why play 2D games for kids?" But it still would have been well received by fans you humongous mongoloid.

So give me a difficult bonus stage that actually plays like the rest of the game

>Best Special Stages in the series
>The only ones that have clear instructions and mechanics
>Easy to understand, but challenging
Your complaints are invalidated by the stages being fun, well designed, and fair. You don't need to practice that much.

>stages drag on
???

They felt about the same to me as 3&k, about 2 or so minutes each. Only exceptions were flying battery 2 and titanic monarch 2, but 3&k had stages like that too, like sandopolis 2

It's still a gameplay shifts and I always hate gameplay shifts. When I buy a game, I want to play that game and only that game.

This prick will never reply, Google Sonic 3 A.I.R

worst part is that it was not allowed to have a conclusive story

Funny thing is that the people who play Hardlight's games pretty much openly shat on them for that tweet, except for the Sonadow fags.

Nice
Thanks a lot

>The stages in Sonic Mania are too long!
>A glitchless run of Sonic Mania is shorter than a glitchless run of S3&K
What did shitters mean by this?

Sonic 3fags get really upset when you point out that like half of the zones in Sonic 3 blow complete fucking dick. Marble Garden is the absolute worst classic zone bar none.

Mania takes pages out of the 2/& Knuckles sides of level design and thankfully is a much better game for it, but the bosses are pretty fucking bad as an unfortunate tradeoff. Still not enough to make the game bad by any means.

Can I use any sonic 3 rom or does it need to be the steam one

>Marble Garden is the absolute worst classic zone bar none.
Nah, fuck that. Metropolis is fucking garbage.

Furthermore, it has the absolute best classic zone, bar none: Launch Base

>stages too long
Yeah, like Marble Garden and Carnival Night that get bashed because some people are mentally challenged to find new routes and shortcuts to decrease the time they waste in the stages. Same goes to Mania, where some say "Flying Battery Act 2 is way too big"

>"blablabla classicfags and adventurefags"
>"but attention! I like both"

Great job avoiding that silly discussion
The "sonic was never good" started with e-celebs and their sheeps, not the 3d or 2d games. Some games were mediocre or bad around 06 era, that is true, but there was still advance and rush games that were good, or solid as you wish. Unleashed got bashed unfairly by reviewers because the trend of the e-celebs was big, to a point reviewers had the balls to say the Wii version was better than the fucking HD version

just trolls. ignore

>The "sonic was never good" started with e-celebs and their sheeps
No shit. I know that and I don't agree with them. Do you think casuals actually play the games they're told aren't good? Or do you think they're more willing to not bother checking shit out for themselves? 06 happened and the series started getting over analyzed and great games like Advance and Rush were getting tossed aside as people started bashing the jump to 3D. "Analysts" started comparing Sonic's jump to 3D with Zelda and Mario, pointing out that it was a lot rougher, so people turned on the older 3D games, the ones that used to be good.

Unleashed was pretty bad though. Some of the day stages are good, some are poor. And the nighttime stages were incredibly awful and existed solely to pad the game out, alongside the dreadful medal bullshit which was even more padding. They should have poured everything into making quality daytime stages and let you just go through them all with no medal roadblocks. There's a reason Colors was so well received.

Only zoomers have a problem with perfection. Let them rage and die from a stroke LMFAO!

press garden sucks, boss music sucks, miniboss music sucks, mirage saloon is mediocre, studiopolois 2 is weak, title theme is shit, titan monarch has forgettable music, metallic madness is almost good.

>Marble Garden is the absolute worst
Those are fighting words nigger

Attached: 1555877097289.webm (272x320, 745K)

You might have the worst taste in music I've ever seen. "Press Garden sucks" alone is unacceptably bad taste.

No, nigga. The dude I replied to said it was and I said that it's actually Metropolis zone that deserves the worst classic zone title.

Best and Worst Zones of each Genesis-era Sonic:
>Sonic 1
Best: Star Light
Worst: Marble
>Sonic 2
Best: Casino Night
Worst: Hill Top/Wing Fortress
>Sonic CD
Best: Palmtree Panic
Worst: Collision Chaos
>Sonic 3K
Best: Ice Cap
Worst: Carnival Night

Attached: 898.jpg (680x453, 59K)

Falseflaggers and people with shitty taste happened.

-t. ym3438er

Worst zone is marble zone, no fucking contest

To be honest the classic sonic formula hasn't really aged that well, people upvoting are pretty much all about 'muh nostalgia'.

You run fast and the game is on auto pilot, otherwise you're awkwardly platforming. All of the charm of the game is in its music and art-style.

After beating the game once I had no desire to play it again.

Attached: interesting.webm (400x300, 441K)

>Sonic 1
Best: Star Light
Worst:Scrap Brain
>Sonic 2
Best: Hill Top/Wing Fortress Funny how that happened.
Worst: Metropolis, again.
>Sonic CD
Best: Stardust Speedway
Worst: Wacky Workbench
>Sonic 3
Best: Launch Base
"Worst": Ice Cap. I love it, and it's by no means actually bad, but it's the weakest zone in the game, for me. It IS, by far, the most aesthetically pleasing level in the game, maybe the whole series, though.
>Sonic & Knuckles
Best: Death Egg
Worst: Sandopolis

I'm sorry? I had to google this and came up with no results.

It was alright, should have had a sequel out by now.

>I'm sorry? I had to google this and came up with no results.
because you're a newfag who doesn't know the first thing about Sonic's sound

I too copypaste reddit messages
Not really
Kill yourself

>Marble Garden is the absolute worst classic zone bar none
Play Sonic 1 again, retard

Sonic CD is shit, it has absolute shit level design, and wastes space best used on new levels on that retarded future bullshit, even Amy's design is trash, the only good thing it does is metal sonics design, which is legitimately good, a few of the tracks are good at least.

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot that people add "-er" to the end of shit.
"Sonic's Sound" doesn't mean shit. Composition and production, does. If you can tell me, on a fundamental, compositional level how Mania's music is bad, feel free.

There were a couple that were too gimmicky for their own good, and I just ended up facefucking them while abusing my invincibility frames and holding on to a single ring rather than fighting them the "right" way. Chemical Plant 1 and Oil Ocean 1 come to mind.

Have you gone back and played Colors recently? I'd say more than 80% of the game comprises of 2d segments, with mechanics that are not at all suited to 2d. It's like playing Sonic 1 but without any of the interesting physics

So while it's not quite as bad as the night time stages in Unleashes, they're still not good and take up 80% of the experience instead of just 50%

>port
its just emulation you tard

Sure. Press garden is a piddly piece of mediocrity that toils in its down tempo that lacks meaningful hooks and fades away evading any memorable traits what-so-ever. The remixed old music is basically just a bit of reverb with each beat being punctuated by a few vocal samples and chunkier beats instead of being any remote improvement. The mid-boss theme is a tedious slog of pure build up with no pay off, the boss theme is a gaggle of carnival farts and clown honks unnecessarily sped up to give a sense of franticness to it despite it being a lame track that fails to create a sense of danger, only annoyance.

Now it's your turn to defend the extremely mediocre soundtrack of Sonic Mania, guy who doesn't even know who Kenichi Hirata is.

>Kenichi Hirata
literally who

exactly, plebe

This. Simply tanking the hits worked best for me

Sonic CD is fucking weird. What kind of drugs are the people who like it taking?

This is true for all of the classic games though

Well, you are right.

Colors was good but is overhyped for being on a Nintendo console. The presentation and carnival idea are good, the jokes were alright since it was the first time and the game played well. But level design is weak with many corridors, way too many automated sections, with the 2d sections being bad blocky shit and levels are short, which reminds a lot of Forces and how similar they were(even how the stages were divided into short acts)

Unleashed is not bad at all. The opening of the game was 10/10, the graphics to this day look amazing, the details input into things and even the hubs were good with npcs that added something to the game(but yeah, some people dont care for them).
Stages were longer and nailed the sense of speed something no other boost game did, setpieces were great, alternative paths existed and 2d wasnt the same shitty blocky sections Kishimoto loves to do. Werehog was mediocre and boring to most people, but not bad gameplay-wise.
The medals werent a problem at all because you were supposed to retry the stages and get them in alternative paths like in the daystages. Only Adabat can make you grind for them

Overall both are good games, but there is not much of a point to replay any of the games from the beginning, only a couple of stages you like.
Still, Unleashed does get too much shit, even daystages do with "Generations mod is better" when Generations mod misses the sense of speed Unleashed had

i want to have sex with the hard-boiled heavies.

Can't we all just agree that the worst classic game in the series is Sonic the Hedgehog

Only low IQ zoomers and actual shit-taste plebs dislike Mania

>with the 2d sections being bad blocky shit and levels are short, which reminds me a lot of Forces
That's because Morio Kishimoto worked on both games, as well as Lost World and the Storybook games. sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Morio_Kishimoto

that boss fight is horseshit as knux

>piddly piece of mediocrity that toils in its down tempo that lacks meaningful hooks and fades away evading any memorable traits what-so-ever
That's a lot of verbage that means literally nothing.
Depending on the track, Press Garden
Act 1
>Uses compound meter to push forth a mechanical, unrelenting pulse that the melody builds onto. Represents the industry of the stage.
>Establishes the first of the main melodies through a guitar line, which are later replicated and rearranged through a softer synth part in 2
>The bells for the B-section establish the second main melody, recreated with bells, gain, in act 2
>Great punctuation and counter melody provided by the horns
>Goes into a neat little organ solo, all while keeping that stern, mechanic tempo
Act 2
>Meter is taken back, given a slower pulse to represent the slower, more natural section of PGZ
>The flute replicates the backing line of the first act
>As mentioned before, the melody given by the
guitar is redone by the synth, building up to
>The bell melody of Act 1 is recreated with a slower, less busy line to fit the smoother, relaxed pace of the piece
>No solo, since the primary melody leads into the B-section with flair and an emulation of improvisation
I can keep going, if you'd like. Boss theme sucks, I talked remixes here >Boss theme is a gaggle of carnival farts and clown honks
Where? The Boss theme has a drastic piano ostinato to start with for that tension and energy. Before entering the first primary melody, we get a jazzy horn section. The main melody is fucking awesome, especially when it's joined by a higher octave harmony in the second section, all punctuated by a nice little horn run. Bassline keeps the energy going without getting overbearing. Then it gives a slower section with another great melodic line, building back to the piano ostinato. It's actually perfect, what's wrong with you?

Almost at text limit, but you get the gist.

Nice dodge, you pseud.

Nothing happened. It's just retarded falseflaggers, you can see some of them in this very thread.

Attached: 1545678763460.png (569x1500, 407K)

>Boss theme sucks
Oops, my bad. I meant Mini-boss. See, I ran out of characters since I actually made points and didn't spew pretty words to sound smart.

Attached: 50127695.jpg (512x288, 28K)

>people are pointing out which is the worst classic sonic game
>nobody is ever mentioning this pile of dogshit from sin itself

Attached: file.png (220x304, 154K)

Let me forget, Ive been trying to forget for 20 years

>a friend owned the Master System version of that
>borrowing that shit from him

Dont remind me. That was so... so.. so. why the fuck it had to exist? They should have ported Triple Trouble for the MS instead

Here's a quick spiel cause this shit pisses me off. Everyone can analyze music. I may not have the best words, the vocabulary might slip past my memory, but I always listen to music actively and you should to. But don't do it out of a desire for superiority. Don't do it to feel better about yourself. Do it out of love for the craft, otherwise you become bitter and start caring more about trivia and things to make yourself feel smart instead of the content you're looking at.
Sonic has tons of great music, and as someone with a deep passion for that shit, I can't bring myself to tell others how pleb they are because of uncommon knowledge that what little meaning it may have is undermined by you making it nothing beyond a self pat on the back. If you find it interesting, more power to you. But don't be that guy. Love the music you love. Find out why it is you love it. That, in itself, will always be more fulfilling than being bitter and using music as a source of arrogance and pretention.
Sperg out over. Enjoy the Mania thread, bros.

Attached: 1528653733192.jpg (211x399, 30K)

Modernfags aren't people

Biggest issue with the game is that the original content is so good you wish there was more of it.
