Qanba Drone's pretty alright at 80bux, though it's still not particularly great. Really easy to swap in a Sanwa stick and some buttons, but at that point you may as well have bought a Hori RAP N for 130.
Jack Robinson
Save your money and buy something bigger if youre really interested in it. This kind of stick isnt even worth it if you just wanna try it out.
Kayden Brown
Ok thats a solid recommendation
I like your way of thinking
Asher Barnes
Sticks always ALWAYS go on sale when there's a major so whatever you buy you're going to be better off waiting for CB next week
Charles Edwards
Ill do that then. thank you anons
Lincoln Mitchell
Just bought a Hori Rap 4 Real Arcade Pro Stick 2 days ago and been enjoying completely. It's $150 but just like other anons said you can try out the Qanba Drone. Those look good too and especially if your on a budget.
Wyatt Perez
Speaking as someone who has a Qanba Drone, a Hori RAP N, and one of Madkatz's TE sticks with all Sanwa parts, I'd honestly suggest skipping out on the Drone unless they can't afford to step slightly higher. There's nothing functionally wrong with it, it just doesn't feel good on account of really light feeling buttons and stick tension. Plus it's narrow enough it doesn't fit in the lap well.
The RAP N, however, is my favorite, though Hori buttons are less clicky than I'd like. Plus the black and gold looks really nice.
Michael Brown
For me it was. It allowed me to get used to motions with a stick like that and pressing buttons like a piano. Wasting more than 100+ for something you may not like, or get used to, or use that much, is not only a gamble but a possible huge waste of money.
Gavin Cook
I started with one of those. Picked it up cheap in Tokyo. I'd never used a stick before and didn't make to make a huge investment if I didn't end up liking it. It was too small and slid around a lot, but great to try out using a stick. I currently use a Qanba Drone with Sanwa parts. More premium sticks might be better, but I didn't want one too big and the Drone is a nice, inexpensive medium-sized one. Make sure you swap the parts out though if you get one.
They're kinda crap and basically unmoddable It's somewhat handy having such a tiny stick, it's definitely more of a flaw than a benefit. If you're not sure you'll like stick it can be worth picking up to try, but you'll 100% want to upgrade if you want to stick with it so it's normally better to start with something good. It can be useful to have a backup you can use if something goes wrong with your main one or to let friends use etc though
Asher Perez
I tried that stick before at a relative's house. It's not comfy at all. It's too tiny even for my smol hands. It's too small to feel comfortable in your lap and too easy to move when you put it on a desk.
Chase Taylor
They're super tiny, but if you just want to dip your toe into sticks and see if they're for you before dropping a couple hundred go ahead and pick one up.
Hunter Wright
convince me to buy a traditional bat stick and not the hit box
Asher Jones
You aren't good enough to use a hitbox effectively.
Adrian Martin
I used one for a while. It's not too bad if you get some velcro sticky things and put it on a board of the right size Your hands are still uncomfortably close together, but some full size sticks are almost as bad so some people must like it like that
Gabriel Ortiz
Hitbox is only good for fighting games. A stick can be universal, (emulation, platformers, 2D, shmups, etc.)
Owen Allen
This, I use my stick for shmups and beat-em-ups half the time.
Henry Carter
qanba obsidian, works on ps4/xbone/pc
Isaiah Rodriguez
Hitboxes are more fun desu I like pressing buttons, it feels good to smoothly tap out your inputs like a pianist or something
William Carter
Best stick I ever used. Fucking loved the stick clicking sound and directional resistance. Very light too. Don't get me wrong, the material quality was probably crap and it felt plastic as hell almost like a toy but that was a part of its charm. Bought a razer panthera a while ago and it just isn't the same. The stick feels too 'sloppy' and not clicky enough. Crazy build quality though.
I bought a Qanba Q1 about three years ago and I think it was a very good first stick. You can get them for like 50 bucks on eBay now. Dont get me wrong, you'll need to upgrade. But for something to see if you like it (and are playing on PC) then you cant go wrong
Before you buy a stick be sure to check Amazon warehouse. They sometimes sell sticks for cheaper on there.
Jeremiah Smith
Buy a quanba drone. It's a good entry level stick, and if you buy a better joystick or buttons you can easily install them into the quanba, and re-install them into a better stick if you choose to upgrade.
Hunter Gomez
Major what?
What is cb?
Joseph Rivera
Curious do you guys use your nightstick for anything else? I was planning on getting one but not sure since I don't play fighting games.
I'm really not sure why anyone switches to fightsticks anymore, if you're already not used to one going with something more ergonomic and efficient seems like the better choice. Also, having made the switch from stick after several years, I enjoy it more. But that's taste.
If I want to get into shmups is there a specific stick I should get?
Evan Garcia
Might as well play on keyboard at that point.
Thomas Gray
Not really, unless you don't care about button sensitivity or the ability to go plug in at tournaments. Also I've personally never gotten the layout to actually be comfortable on a keyboard, but that might just be an issue with the configs I attempted.
Owen Russell
to capture the arcade feel. I dont think a fight stick will make a huge difference for me at my level. I literally just want it to feel like I'm playing in the pizza shop I played at when I was younger
Ethan Wilson
i know its not fightstick related but this is the only thread up thats even related to my problem, but is a saturn controller good for 2d fighters? i wanna get into them but atm the only controller i really have thats compatible with my pc is my switch pro controller and thats not very good with fighters from what ive experienced
Sebastian Jones
If you like those kind of dpads and the 6 button layout, yes, the controller feels good to hold. The XYZ buttons are smaller though, you may not like that, but you can always pick something like a Hori fighting commander.
Elijah Cruz
You will never experience that feeling again.
Sebastian King
if you have even remotely above average hands it's not going to be comfortable i had one as a first stick and i upgraded to a bigger stick and the difference is huge
Aiden Wood
ill look into that then, thanks user. im completely new to 2d fighters outside of playing sf2 a couple times years ago so im not sure where to begin controller wise. i want to try a figh stick but a) i grew up in a buttfuck rural town so i never had access to an arcade growing up and b) im not sure if i wanna make the investment and then not like it
Jayden Robinson
I have the new retrobit Sega Saturn pad and yes it's decent but be weary because they tend to break easy.
Julian Reyes
do you mean big hands or fatty hands? there's a difference, you know.
Jonathan Edwards
ill look into this too. are adaptors fine or do they have input lag? my friend is willing to give me his saturn pad but i need a pc adaptor for it
Nolan Robinson
What's the difference.
Owen Foster
I grew up playing on arcades after school with those real big sticks and I'll honestly say to you that I never could find a controller that replicated the feel of a real arcade stick.
Landon Allen
i had one of these and they are actually iredeemably bad, the stick broke within a week and stopped being responsive, i couldnt do fast motions because i would pull so hard that the entire thing gets lifted up. if you want to dick around in single player with it then its prob ok but its not good for being conpetitive in any way
Alexander Bennett
I recommend the Mad Catz super street fighter 4 arcade stick it's like $30 used it was for like the xbox 360 but it works with pc.
Tyler Carter
You could give keyboard a try too As long as you don't have ghosting issues it's a perfectly legit control method for pc. Either with standard arrow keys or wasd or a pretend hitbox by binding up to the spacebar.
Andrew Hernandez
Yeah, I know what you mean. play with whatever you feel more comfortable
So, they arent that good? I heard things about shoulder buttons not being as good as the saturn ones too. I will wait a bit more and see if a revision happens be saturn or 6 button genesis, since the only things left are those expensive PS2 saturn controllers or the original thing.
Colton White
big hands can be thin like that of a piano player. they generally are dextrous and can easily manipulate a stick. Fatty hands tend to have small and fat fingers that don't get very well with any controller.
Brandon Kelly
yeah. nothing like a big black stick
Gabriel Rogers
It could just you growing up. I remember using a SNES controller way back a tried it out as an adult to be disappointed in the size. Most arcade sticks aren't that big.
Connor Harris
I absolutely hate the shoulder buttons. They said they sent out new units with the fixed dpad but not really.
Pic related. Top is the retrobit and bottom the original. Retrobig has a flimsier dpad. It's going to break easily.
Replace the lever with a Seimitsu if you want a clicky feel. LS32 and 56 are pretty nice.
Tyler Clark
yeah, this looks good actually. is it cheap?
Brandon Perry
Fuck. So Retrobit only looks nice and that's it. Guess is still better to use the original or the ps2 one with some adapter
Brayden Clark
What are some single-player games that're good to play with a flight stick? I'm thinking something like, where you ride a mech/a or a spacecraft and fight intense battles that need lots of manoeuvering in tight spaces.
