Why do the Batman games get such hate on here? They’re genuinely fun games with some nice riddler puzzles, great atmosphere and great exploration. I get the combat being somewhat automated but it’s not like it’s super shitty.

Arkham City is unironically a masterpiece.
Asylum is good; post-City games are all trash.

I mostly see positive opinions about the series, mostly people talking down the games that aren't their favorite (or shitting on Origins/VR in general). "Arkham combat" is something of a meme design decision that it created when it only really works in a Batman game because it makes you feel like Batman a little in how easily he's able to handle a crowd of thugs. The meat of the game is stealth, traversal, and detective work with combat tying it together.

That said, the bosses in Asylum, the Batmobile shit in Knight, and pretty much all the Riddler stuff post-Asylum are pretty bad.

I think Asylum might be the best 3D metroidvania besides Metroid Prime 1

This. City is a very good game but open world stuff just isn't as compelling, even if the appeal of a Batman game in Gotham itself is big. Asylum felt very tightly designed in terms of the island and everything in it.

because they are popular and most of the shitters on Yea Forums are contrarians who dismiss the game for having a one button counter

Because DMCfags.

>muh simple batman combat
It's actually fun lmaoo

I love DMC and Arkham Asylum/City both. A game doesn't need super deep combat if it's not the focus of the entire gameplay.

There really was no wasted space in Asylum
