Why do the Batman games get such hate on here? They’re genuinely fun games with some nice riddler puzzles, great atmosphere and great exploration. I get the combat being somewhat automated but it’s not like it’s super shitty.

Arkham City is unironically a masterpiece.
Asylum is good; post-City games are all trash.
I mostly see positive opinions about the series, mostly people talking down the games that aren't their favorite (or shitting on Origins/VR in general). "Arkham combat" is something of a meme design decision that it created when it only really works in a Batman game because it makes you feel like Batman a little in how easily he's able to handle a crowd of thugs. The meat of the game is stealth, traversal, and detective work with combat tying it together.
That said, the bosses in Asylum, the Batmobile shit in Knight, and pretty much all the Riddler stuff post-Asylum are pretty bad.
I think Asylum might be the best 3D metroidvania besides Metroid Prime 1
This. City is a very good game but open world stuff just isn't as compelling, even if the appeal of a Batman game in Gotham itself is big. Asylum felt very tightly designed in terms of the island and everything in it.
because they are popular and most of the shitters on Yea Forums are contrarians who dismiss the game for having a one button counter
Because DMCfags.
>muh simple batman combat
It's actually fun lmaoo
I love DMC and Arkham Asylum/City both. A game doesn't need super deep combat if it's not the focus of the entire gameplay.
There really was no wasted space in Asylum
Asylum, City, and Knight all have some great level design and atmospheric detail. Their stories got worse the more ambitious they got, though, and Arkham Knight in particular has a big issue with its main mission having some of the most uninteresting level design/moments in the game.
I thought they were all fun, but damn I wish they went all in with the predator parts of the game. Spooking grunts so hard they start shooting the air and freaking out is the best, but they never managed to innovate it to make it better.
>uninteresting level design
The blimps were cool.
One really cool thing should’ve been multiple entrances for missions
>one button counter
that's not even true, even in the first game there's shit that can't be countered. there's a tool for every situation
I can agree there. The tilt gimmick felt like Zelda in a good way. But in general most of the memorable stuff is elsewhere.
The combat isn’t deep, but it doesn’t really need to be, you’re playing as Batman to solve crimes and beat up criminals, not every game has to be DMC, it’s not a stylish action game.
yea but according to Yea Forums, all you gotta do is tap the one counter button to beat the game lmao
They are good games. Could have wanked the joker a little less. But I really couldn't ask for anything more from a game about Batman.
Is arkham origins any good?
Secret best Batman game coming in hot.
Mark hamill’s joker to me is the true joker, so I didn’t mind it and he’s Batman’s arch enemy anyway.
Arkham Asylum was good in the way that it was kind of a 3D Metroidvania, with a map that you could explore more extensively (or at least easier to get around) as you got more gadgets, even as things deteriorated (ordinary guys to beat up, then crazy guys that would jump on you, then snipers, and of course, Poison Ivy's plants)
Is that the sunsoft one? That one is fucking great and was basically the one good batman game till the arkham games.
What pissed me off about the last Arkham game is that they had a shit ton of Easter eggs and references to the Justice League and yet not even a god damn cameo, and apparently Rocksteady is not even working on any more Batman or JLA stuff.
Fuck this world.
Its easy to just mash through like a scrub but to string together fluid combos using gadgets requires skill.
I really really want even a passable Superman game just to wash the stink of 64 away. It’s been too long
im playing arkham city right now and its pretty good. the only thing i dont like about it, is the thugs constantly talking when your in open world
>yet not even a god damn cameo
Good. Batman is better on his own. That's almost always been the case.
Really? I love that aspect, makes the world feel more alive compared to most open world games
The care put into the Batman mythos, and world is exquisite, but the combat is very simple (three buttons or four buttons not counting the gadgets). If you're looking for a fastpaced combo based beat'em up type of game its not the Arkham series that you should look at.
The arkham series is still good though if you're not looking for CUHRAAAZE style gameplay.
People who think the Badman games are good are plebes who haven't played a REAL superhero game
They were popular
Popular doesn’t mean good though
Why is DC so much better than Marvel? DC feels like they put a lot more depth and care into their worlds.
My friend is the same way and I really wish he would actually play the games to know that isn't true
Marvel is fast food basically
DC has better vidya and cartoons but marvel destroys them in the movie department
The design of trying to not be offensive or alienating in any way, is itself what offends and alienates me. To me its a game that broken down by mechanics is as simple as Candy Crush, I don't really hate either of them but they both lack any sort of greater appeal, it is like superhero movies, they are okay but no amount of marketing push is going to make me think The Dark Knight is greater than is.
>but marvel destroys them in the movie department
If Warner bros executives didn't meddle into development and hire Snyder to fuck around for three movies, DC would be in a better spot live action filmwise.
Never played any of these games, is it worth getting Return to Arkham?
I played Arkham Asylum for the first time last year and just did not like it at all.
The lore and writing was spot-on Dini stuff. But I just felt like I was playing the dreaded "AAA but not actually fun" game that's been such a boogeyman for the past 20 years. The combat, stealth, and bosses all just felt painful and the Metroidvania forced-backtracking wasn't fun for me because the core of the game wasn't fun. Felt a lot like Darksiders.
Asylum > City > Knight 2bh
Only reason City is above Knight is because of the fucking car, everything else is better
City transplanted Asylum’s mechanics 1:1 even though Asylum was ultimately a linear game that happened to have an open connecting hub
In Asylum, you can almost never just run past a mob of enemies, it’s always best to take them down on your way places except maybe in the main hub
Whereas in City, the brave hero Batman can’t be bothered to save randos from thugs because it’s out of the way and who even gives a shit about beating up one guy to save one other guy
Plus Asylum was like 12 hours at most if you went for every single Riddler trophy, so it makes sense that it’s perma-night
City takes at least 12 hours, something like 18 to do everything, so you can’t even suspend your disbelief and say “oh it’s just a long night because it’s” winter
City just straight up exists in a world where it’s permanently a snowy night and if you choose to even just do all the non-Riddler sidequests, you’re still faced with the fact that Gotham is just in permanent darkness
I think the dark knight trilogy beats anything marvel has made
>capeshit
Yeah, the first game is sorta like Metroid Prime in terms of progression and the 2nd is open world but actually has shit to do and isn’t big at all like maybe 4 times the size of hyrule field in OoT
>one good movie that properly adapts Batman but is altogether just entertaining
>one good movie that’s way up its own ass about being lowrate alan moore Batman analysis which is carried by a great Joker performance
>one bad meme movie big guy 4u
Absolutely not better than the original Iron Man, or the Guardians movies, or Endgame
That’s marvel
I've never played Arkham Knight/Origins but I've played City and Asylum.
Is Knight worth it or should I go with Origins?
the dark knight trilogy and reeves superman movies are the only worthwhile DC movies in my eyes. meanwhile, marvel has the spider-man trilogy, iron man 1, winter solider, and x-men
Origins is basically City 2.0 developed by WB Games. Knight takes the gameplay a bit further.
I don't disagree with you that Marvel generally does it better but:
Dark Knight>Rises>Begins
Knight would be kino if the car weren’t shoved down your throat so fucking hard. It’s still better than Origins, AKA the Dark Souls 2 of Bamham, but Knight is frustrating in its missed potential.
Both are worth playing, Origins doesn’t do much new but it’s a good game still
>automated combat
How to tell someone played easy mode with the counter notifications on and never got deep into the challenge rooms. These games were the tits, and some of those rooms were brutal
Knight's pretty good. The main story sucks, Batman's character model looked off to me somehow, and everything Batmobile related tends to suck, but there's a lot of level design that's every bit as good as what you'll find in City and Asylum and it's redeemed by its side missions (especially the DLC ones).
Shit gameplay and capeshit is for retards.
>endgame
>better
i'd rather watch iron man 3 and antman and the wasp
knight is okay but, a little dissappointing after the previous games.
origins is a more clunky version of arkham city with good bossfights.
>capeshit is for retards
Video games are for retards.
I’m sure you have patrician taste
When will Rocksteady reveal their next project?
no, that's both.
not even the spider-man ps4 game could be as great as asylum and city
